You can’t transfer your files without removing SD card!I bought this Hero 8 Black to make instructional videos for work. It WiFi linked up with my Samsung phone just fine so I could see what the camera was seeing, to set up my shots. Made a couple short test videos. When it came time to download the test videos, nothing! Used the USB cable provided, Windows 10 computer. Computer does not see the files. Downloaded GoPro Quick thinking that would work. Nope their program does not see the video files either! Went to the GoPro web site and help section. Everyone is saying the same thing. So…. I started hunting around in the setting on the camera and in order to use the USB cable you HAVE to change the Preferences, to USB Connection MTP! Once I did that I was able to see my video files after some hunting in the folders and copy them to my Computer for editing. Hope this helps someone else. I was pretty frustrated!

Nice little machineWe’ve had some fun playing with it and gotten some great photos. I have to get used to using it for water and always wipe the lens. Not very intuitive to use, so you have to be committed to learning the system to get the full value. I’ve bought many accessories to make it all work, maybe more than I needed but some at least seem needed. Recommended Accessories: SD card, screen protector, tripod mountI think with the string it comes with I might not really need the camera float.

This is one of the hardest reviews I have to give. There is a lot I like about the go pro 8 black. I primarily use as a “dash cam” when I’m biking around the city, mounted to my helmet.I love the interface, it’s modern and easy to understand. can press one button to turn on and instantly start recording. Has good wide field of view. Image quality is best in class. Can move files relatively quickly wirelessly to their app. Huge variety of mourning options. The mics pic of really good audio.BUT, these are the downsides that make it not perfect for me. First off the battery life is way shorter than I expected. Even when I’m shooting at the lowest possible resolution and frame rate(1080p/24fps), each battery only lasts about an hour of filming. For comparison, I purchased a simple $100 crosstour action camera and it films for twice as long if not more. And since I’m taking long bike trips around the city, battery life is priority to me. To me that’s a make or break feature. Somehow the hero 8 black suffers from power efficiency – the outside of the metal gets very warm which tells me they designed the hardware and software wrong to use all the juice so quickly. Also no real “loop recording” feature. Will I keep using it? Absolutely, I’ll just keep a spare battery in my bag. But would I buy it again? No, I would keep looking for the perfect helmet mounted camera with longer filming time.

Great picture but subscription has not filled promiseThis is a fun little camera easy to use and captures great video and surprisingly good audio. After using it for a week I decided to subscribe because it said it would create highlight videos automatically if I auto uploaded. I auto uploaded two weeks ago and still have not seen any highlight videos created for me. I record live music sets and the battery life is a little too short for that coming in under an hour I actually need an hour and 15 minutes. The app on iPhone is buggy and when connected to Wi-Fi it quits after about 10 seconds. I have to disconnect Wi-Fi in order to open the app and use it and that’s kind of annoying. I’ve had it for well over a month now and have not seen any updates to the app that would fix any of this. I’ll probably be canceling my subscription.

Good quality video, but not user-friendlyWe just recently got a Hero8 Black GoPro to take videos of hikes and mountain climbing adventures. The good: setting it up and taking videos is simple and straightforward, and the video quality is clean and sharp (recommendation: go for at least a 128 GB sim card to ensure adequate storage capacity at high resolution). The bad: transferring videos off of the unit is a pain. After spending over three hours installing and reinstalling the GoPro app on our phones and computer, we were unable to get anything to recognize that the GoPro was even there (it was plugged in at 100% charge, and our wi-fi had no problems at the time). There is no option to directly connect the GoPro to a computer to transfer files, and the only customer support available is apparently based in India or Pakistan (judging from the accents of the support people we contacted), so clear explanations of the problem were difficult and took a lot of work on both ends. Ultimately, the only way we were able to transfer videos from the GoPro was to manually pull the sim card out and plug it into a reader in our computer. Customer support told us that this is not a bad thing, as it would ultimately take 5 times longer to transfer files via wi-fi. I don’t think this is an acceptable solution, because (1) handling the sim card multiple times increases the likelihood that it will be damaged or broken and (2) damage to the GoPro is possible if the sim card is inserted in the wrong orientation (there is no indication on the unit of the correct orientation to use, and even when you have it correct, you have to “shove” the card pretty hard to get it seated properly.)Customer support gets 5 stars for willingness to be helpful, but 1 star on convenience and ease of use. As mentioned before, the only way to get customer support is to submit a report on the website, which apparently goes to a call center in India or Pakistan. You then wait for a call back, which could come minutes or hours later. Of the three call-ins we made, two had such scratchy, bad connections that I am doubtful we could have understood what the support tech was saying even if they spoke crystal-clear English (seriously, we could only hear every second or third word, the rest was static). Ultimately, the tech who helped us was helpful and knowledgeable, especially given that he could not see what we were dealing with. All told, the customer support setup needs work to make it more accessible.

Perfect for underwater footage.I love my GoPro. I started a Nature video channel, and wanted something that I could use under water. This camera is perfect. I have a special lanyard that I use with it, because it didn’t work the way I wanted it to being mounted to my snorkel. Once you turn it on, you can leave it on while you’re swimming around and searching for turtles or other underwater creatures. I just grab it, press the start button, and it starts filming. Once I’m done I pressed stop. Having the ability to do this, while you’re searching for different things that you wanna take footage up, really saves on battery power. I couldn’t be any more happier with this camera. You can go back through your videos with the camera, just to see how things turned out. If you feel like you needed to get more footage, make sure it’s charged, and you can head back in the water and do it again. this probably bought a lot of joy in my life, and is completely waterproof and doesn’t need any type of packaging to keep it waterproof underwater. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. This is great for any type of movies that you want to make, or just for capturing your travels.

It’s an Older Hero for a Discount PriceI paid about $240 on a promotion. GP has had the Hero 10 for a deep discount, on their site. I might have done that. But the price I paid is pretty great for what this camera does, and I don’t worry about it much. The good thing is that the stabilization on the Hero 8 is close to fantastic. I ride an ebike up a very rough road and the picture is almost too smooth. It’s just remarkable what the electronic stabilization can do. And these are pretty tough cameras. The picture is very nice, if a bit punched up. I guess there is a bland setting. The camera is a lot of fun. It’s fun to go outside in the snow and rain. It’s fun to point it at odd angle and mount it in weird places. Hey, you want a fantastic camera that does it all, get a Sony A7iii. But that’s not reality. The stills from this camera are pretty good, but always wide views. The battery life honestly sucks.

Great little action camera except for voice control. Voice control, not so much.Received the GoPro Hero 8 black and I have it configured just the way I want it. Videos are great now that I have watched a ton of settings videos on You Tube. Everything seems great except the voice control. Yes. I do have all voice control settings turned on. The camera will not respond to the voice command “GoPro turn on” which I guess is not a big deal. I can always just turn it on but for what I paid for this camera I would expect “everything” to work. I have recently ordered “The Remote” so using that should be an easy work around for the voice command “GoPro turn on”. So far, so good except for the voice control issue. I will update again at a later date if necessary. The voice control issue is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I purchased a Hero 8 and they sent me this Hero 9. My first test out on a bike ride this morning, and I can really tell the difference between this one and my cheap little Sportscam. In the GoPro video, you can see the horizon and trees and road and surroundings all stay stable and don’t move. Only my bike is moving. In the cheap camera video, everything is jiggling with my movement. This was well worth the money I believe. The only thing that never improves from product to product is battery life. There’s really no answer for that other than to buy multiple batteries and keep them handy. This battery lasted me about 59 minutes before it died.
