1. InfoComm 2017: TASCAM Introduces 64-Channel Digital Multitrack Recorder & Player
my name is Eric Larson I'm Director of Marketing with task and we're here at infocomm 2017 and this product here is the da 6400 while not officially a new product we've added some features that really allow us to relaunch this beautifully this is a single rack space 64 channel recorder and playback device what we're doing right now is we have announced a free control app for us and this allows us now with this new update to connect up to six of these in perfect synchronization so you can get massive track counts so these are fantastic for any place where you need to record a huge number of tracks government offices court reporting those types of things or for anything you're doing as far as installations in theme parks or museums or educational installations where you want different tracks of audio play through different rooms so this now is expanding the capability beyond the original 64 track into the hundreds of tracks more information is available at tascam calm
2. Tech Review: Fostex MR8 Digital Multitrack Recorder
today i'm going to be talking to you about the fostex mr8 digital multitrack recorder now i bought my mr8 back in 2003 and since then it's been a real workhorse to this day i still use it quite frequently i've used it for numerous projects over the years i've used it for countless songs remixes podcasts you name it it's a true workhorse that i would strongly recommend now you can record on this machine with normal or extended mode and it goes without saying if you use normal mode for recording you're going to eat up more space on your compact flash card if you use extended mode you take up much less space there are seven sliders on the front of the machine basically there's a slider for each track one two three and four they each have their own individual sliders you have a slider for tracks five slash six another slider for tracks seven slash eight and then finally you have a master slider to control the overall volume now this brings up my first complaint about the fostex mr8 something i've noticed when you fade out a particular track when you want to bring down the volume on any of the tracks i find that it doesn't fade out gently the fade out is very abrupt what i mean by that if you can imagine on the slider that the volume at the very top is 100 and the bottom at the very bottom of the slider is zero representing total silence when you bring down the slider once it hits a 10 it basically jumps to zero the fade out is extremely abrupt and that's one thing about this machine that always annoyed me maybe they corrected that on later models but certainly on this earlier model i find the fade outs on each slider it doesn't happen very gently it happens very abruptly but so be it you prime each track by pushing the button above the slider the button will start to blink indicating that the track is ready to be recorded on and once you start recording that blinking red light becomes solid you can do bounce with this machine it's a really great feature of this machine and very useful one a feature that i've used many times over the years you can bounce tracks one to four over to track five slash six and you can also choose to bounce tracks one to six over to track seven slash eight there are pan controls but the only for tracks one two three and four there is also effect send for tracks one two three and four and the effects include room haul plate and delay now i'm not a huge user of these built-in effects uh delay is quite nice i do use that from time to time haul is kind of nice but overall i tend to prefer using outboard effects when i record the included effects are okay but certainly not excellent by any means there is a mic simulation feature you have three different mic simulations you have dynamic condenser and tube there's also an amp simulation now i'm not really a guitarist i tend to be more of a keyboardist but if you are a guitarist you might find this quite useful there are three different amp simulations british stack us metal and 60s combo for inputs there are two balanced xlr inputs and two unbalanced quarter inch inputs there's also a trim for each input there's also a guitar distortion feature which is very nice even if you're not a guitarist like me that distortion can come in really handy sometimes on various keyboard sounds and also sometimes on vocals it's a really good quality distortion as well for outputs you have two stereo quarter inch outs and also two headphone jacks which is great it's something i really love about the mr8 because if there are two people perhaps someone is singing and someone is playing an instrument they can both listen to the mix with their own individual headphones which is great there's also built-in mastering you have three mastering settings you have powerful natural and bright i don't really use these mastering settings again they're kind of neat and maybe you if you have the mr8 find them quite useful i don't tend to use them myself but that's my own preference at the bottom you have typical controls you have a record button stop play rewind and fast forward power is 12 volt you can also run this machine with batteries it takes six aaa batteries now word of warning if you do need to use batteries do not use alkaline one time i made the mistake of using alkaline batteries in this machine they were dead within 10 minutes if you must use lithium i would strongly suggest using lithium if you do need to use batteries in this machine there's a switch for the light on the display you can turn the light on for the display screen if you need to it would be very useful in low light situations maybe if you're recording at night or you can choose not to have the light on on the display there is a usb out so you can easily connect to a laptop it's very easy to transfer wav files from the mr8 to your laptop or vice versa there's also a foot switch and there's also a digital out now this brings up my second complaint about the fostex mr8 you can only use the digital out with a toslink cable you can only use the digital out if you record in normal mode if you record in extended mode you can't use it that's just a little complaint i wish they hadn't engineered this machine that way but basically the digital out is completely useless if you happen to record in extended mode on the side there is a midi out i have never used this feature if anyone out there has the mr8 and has used the midi out please leave a comment let us know how it works let us know if it's something that you use frequently or not at all the machine uses compact flash cards now if you buy an earlier model like the one i have it would only take flash cards up to one gigabyte in size if you wanted to use a card larger than one gigabyte you had to download a software update off the internet overall i give this machine a huge thumbs up i love the red color of the outside of the unit it's very distinctive it's very easy to use it's easy to transfer files to and from your pc it also has a built-in microphone which makes this machine very very portable if you're the type of person who wants to take a recorder to the cottage for the weekend or if you're going on a trip out of town and you want a little sketchbook to somehow catch your ideas this machine would be great for that it's simple intuitive and easy to use and i've noticed that the cost on these tabletop multi-trackers have really come down back in 2003 i can't remember the exact price i paid for this but i'm sure it was well over four hundred dollars quite expensive i've noticed that now you can practically buy a 24 track machine for almost that same price so the cost has really come down so that's my review of the fostex mr8 digital multi-tracker if you see one second hand give it a shot if you're the type of person like me who prefers multi-track recording on a tabletop unit rather than with a software program on your pc this is for you again very simple very fun very easy to use that's my review of the mr8 please leave us a thumbs up leave us a comment if you have any questions i would love to hear from you and if you haven't already subscribed please do we post new videos every week so if you want to see more tech reviews like this one please subscribe you'll see in a few seconds you'll see in the bottom right corner the round circular brown logo for tekken tea 3. TASCAM DP-004 DP-006 Digital Multitrack Recording, Mix, and Master Quick Tutorial | 424recording.com
welcome to the first DP 0:04 testa reporting video I'm gonna do some features on this things he records levy sent this to the channel if you want to send anything to the channel and see some videos feel free to do so p o-- box one five one New Paltz New York one two five six one and I'll definitely make some video tutorials about it make some videos about it and go from there alright so we're just gonna make a really simple song some guitar some rhythm guitar some lead guitar maybe some vocals kind of just following along with the QuickStart guide in the manual so but I figured it'd be easier to give a little visual representation of what's going on I also picked up the adapter which is really cool so that it will run off of the power adapter first before it uses batteries which is really helpful because it definitely seems to go through batteries pretty quickly so but what's cool about the batteries is that you can use this remotely so so we're going to just use the electric guitar direct in on the top here you have input a and input B sorry if that's upside down but I should be able to see that and see what those are my cameras having a little issue autofocus a that's okay after that you just make sure that the switch here is on guitar which it is this is for the input a you can also set the volume here and monitor what you're doing with headphones I'm gonna make sure that this volume is about midway up the wheel press the input setting key it's gonna open up a menu over here we're gonna make sure gonna use this wheel and you can see that it's changing changes from a couple different settings here off which would be obviously off interior mic a low that's these internal mics on the front here there's two on the front let's face it those there's low setting a medium setting and a high setting guitar line is what we want and Mike would be if we're gonna have a mic to that so we'll make sure it's on guitar line to go down you just hit this down key so we can set B and for now we're just gonna set it to interior low / internal so yeah I mean there's three settings low medium and high basically there those are the the settings for these and internal mics so I think you'll have to do a little bit of testing to see what is the best method we're gonna use those later for the vocals so it's not an exact science you know you got three three levels that you can try with and the best bet is to just start on low and go from there and you just press the HOME key to bring us back to the project loading a song file you can press the Menu key you can use the data wheel to select saw and press f4 key and select load these are the ones that are currently on the unit we're actually going to go back create a new one it's this song Oh eleven is the new one we'll keep it like that for now we're gonna execute and that's storing the song creating the song it's all create complete alright cool and we can go back that exit and now we have our new song it's a multitrack project so interesting about the the way that the default settings are they're very similar to the four track input a is four tracks one and three and input B is four tracks two and four which is pretty similar to the layout of the four track if you have ever used one but you can change these around in this device which is pretty cool alright let's record some guitar shall we we're gonna arm the track see that it's blinking there so we got standby going so again like the four track the way to do it is you got to press these two at the same time and that'll start this going all right so this is solid now this is solid and we're playing so now we're recording [Music] all right sweet when we're done you hit stop now we've recorded 33 seconds of time we're still armed over here so we'll turn that off because you don't want to record anything else or record over it all right let's listen to what we got so we're gonna go to the beginning of the song the return to zero key function you could see here this is our TZ there's actually if you hit this together with the stop button so if you go now that went back to zero pretty cool function I mean super function again similar to the four track and also an important function to know so that you can go back without rewinding the entire thing all right so you just press play to listen to it what we recorded it's using this to turn down the headphones a little bit let's turn it down a little bit there - all right cool hit these go back to zero you can also pan it using so these are the level knobs for each track and then these are the pan knob so if you want to pan it you can do so alright let's record a little lead on to the next part here we're gonna hit assign now on this screen you can see what inputs are assigned to what tracks so track 1 we have input a track 2 we have input B track 3 is input a track for is input B like we were saying before similar to the four track the biggest thing about this is that what's different than the four track is you can just change them right here obviously it's digital so we're just gonna go down change this to a and now we're gonna record the guitar on the track to using input a without having to switch it over to input B we're gonna do the similar before record - you can see our levels there playing the guitar a little bit we're at the beginning of the song because we hit our TC before and we're gonna hit these again and go for it alright hit stop we're going to return to zero whoops and we're going to turn off the record indicator and let's listen back to what we did so I pushing play and now we can also mix it as we go here all right cool so what I did just with my mix I adjusted some levels here on the for the each track rhythm guitar lead guitar and then I just panned them a little bit where does that 45 or we'll say 10 and to about give it a little bit of the stereo spread all right let's return to zero all right so let's record some vocals using these guys under here the internal mics and see how these things function I'm going to go to a sign again and this time we're gonna go down to track 3 we're gonna change it to input B one thing I didn't realize too is you can also hit the home button to go back so when you're in that menu you can either hit exit or home it'll take you back to the recording project screen so if you remember before we assigned input B to B the internal mic be low so that means the internal mics internal mic B is actually here on the right side and low is the lowest setting because I don't know how loud it's gonna be so we can record it and see how it sounds and then go back hit home we'll go back to here armored track 3 I'm gonna turn this up I can hear myself now at my room here so I think we can see the level a little bit here so what we're gonna do is actually go to not that not that oh yeah we're gonna go to input setting oops and go down and I'm gonna turn this up to medium sounds pretty good in my room right now so hey hey hey cool we have it armed and let's record a little bit a little something on there so input B hear that this is going to control the input level as we're recording this one we're not going to use because it's input a so input B for the record level masters for the headphones I'm listening to also the master track so do that we can hear it alright so I'm gonna just I don't in prop something and we'll go from there so we're all armed and ready to go let's do it all right well let's see now what our whole mix sounds like we can do that really easily by just art easy hit off the record arm and now we're just gonna hit play so now here this is gonna be our vocal setting oh that was actually better than I thought very cool all the levels sounded good I like that sound of that internal mic okay well let's uh let's move on to the next part shall we really important to note when you're using the internal mic you can hear the internal mic and I can heat a click monitor I hear my room and then when you turn this off it goes silent so the only way to really hear what you're gonna be recording or the level of what you're gonna be recording on the internal mics is the arm the tracks I mean I was kind of mixing our tracks as we were going but when you come down to mixing your tracks you can just go back to the beginning of the song press play can use these levels now for the items that were recorded onto the tracks one through three rhythm guitar lead vocal what I did was just set my levels the lead was a little low it turned it up I adjusted my vocals here I panned to the two tracks here left for the rhythm right for the lead and then the vocals right up the middle so this is basically your functionality for your mix you have your pans and you have your levels these knobs like I've mentioned are strictly for when you're recording to adjust the level the oels overloading if you're hitting that it's kind of like clipping you don't want to be doing that masked arias is how you listen back in the headphones and what the level of your mix is on the master there's also a volume knob over here which I'm assuming there's a couple different stages of gain staging I suppose here this is going to be your overall volume there's there's one on the left here this guy here that's and headphones going here but you know for when you're playing back I would recommend having this like midway through and adjusting this because you don't want it to be too loud so now this section is going to be mastering the mix basically now we have the four three tracks and we want to put them onto a two track stereo track so that we can then bounce that out onto the computer the time between the songs beginning and the end point is going to be what's going to be mastered or what's going to be bounced out into another file being the master file so so what this means is we need to set an out point so that when the tascam the DPO four will know okay that's gonna be the end of the song that's gonna be the end of the bounce so you press the in/out key right up here play the song back and press the f4 out key where you want the stereo master to end all right so my song ends nothing around here so I'm gonna hit out and now it's a set out point at 34 15 it's still going I'm going to hit stop but so now my out point is gonna be where the song of roughly ends 34 15 so now the tascam is going to say okay I'm gonna master this song I'm going to bounce now these three tracks to a stereo track between zero zero and thirty-four so now you can press home go back we're gonna hit the record mode key what we've been working with is the multitrack recording but we're gonna go down to master recording f4 to execute to start the master recording you just go to play and record so you have to hold this down in order to get it and then press play and that now we're creating our master track the master will end automatically at the point that we set it at and you can adjust the levels as it's mastering you say you have a vocal that's too loud or you have part that you want to be louder you can't adjust things on the fly as it's pastoring and we're gonna press the record mode key go down to master play you're gonna hit execute and here we go this is our master now press play and we'll move it to here we created let's do it standard test yo its Mike make sure you do something you want to do today and don't forget to subscribe my youtube channel hit that little Bell notification icon you nerd when these videos go live I hit me up if you have any questions about the DPO for do my best to answer them I just got it from levy thank you so much again levy for sending to the channel and catch you on the next one
4. How to record music at home on a digital multitrack recorder. UnderCover funk Tunes Ep. 1 season 1
what's happening YouTube this your man dr. Jam music and for that instructional video on how to put down funk and there's no father you found it in this series that I've happy named under cover tunes we're gonna be choosing some of the funky stool known the man we're gonna attempt to replicate them but I'm also gonna show you how to do it yourself first of all we have to start out with the equipment that you used I've chosen this Tascam DP 24 SB that is a fancy way of saying a 24 track digital recorder and I chose to 24 track digital recorder because out of the 24 track in the 32 track they have the same amount of sliders and when you're mixing down and you have to push buttons to get a flying mix because you don't have enough sliders to go along with the tracks it becomes a little bit daunting I said it can't be done but I'm just not that good at I guess we take a look at the rear of the machine you have your 8 direct inputs microphone aligned you also have your guitar and line switch so putting down guitar make sure you switch that over so you have a hotter and putting this with your back over the line of affricates get your SD card you store all your music at I really don't lack on but hey you gotta keep up with the time and this particular slot right here so old-school USB it's kind of hard to find anymore you know that's the only bad I liked about this back in because you have to go find that old-school stuff they're gonna stop making simulator [Music] okay as we focused our attention on the front this used to be where they had that CD burner on it and I love those because it was completely a self-contained unit you have your remote and headphones right there I've never used a remote I guess I'm not that deep involved of course you've got your your great 24 back slides which you control every track individual and I'll go to a template these are your games that you can turn them up and turn them down you know you're lying your guitar otherwise and that is just a straight board device have you ever used any kind of recording device before they're all the same but tascam is really an old corporation you know it's really made by teach you have you know anything about teak take you to make those picnics and cassette decks boom boxes and stuff so I don't know if they like that name better or what but tascam is made by teeth so it's a pretty good product this is probably my favorite part of all of you can arm eight model tracks and record them simultaneously here you can control all the individual tracks and that's old-school technique meander just slide your finger cross you can arm or disarm those immediately here you have individual control of each input and don't forget you can turn them up and down and get everything right who's your recording this screen is a critical side screen you might have no problem you know looking at it and this is the amount of time I have remaining on my sixteen gigabyte memory card and it can have up to a 32 gigabyte memory card which is more than enough space so far I can tell I have about 12 fooling songs on it and plenty of space left okay let's kick up the volume and die be in till we can see what punk sounds like on this thing I'm gonna do a little bit of cameo she's strange and you can kind of hear the sound quality it's not too bad decent equipment this will give you an idea how you can read the estimates on this screen here you can see I've used about six tracks and maybe eight the dual line side-by-side that you see there are mysterious tracks so that's really just one correct [Music] that's my quick overview of the machine that I'm using once again it is a cash cam 24 track here see the pans and stuff it's all digital now I like the old-school stuff it works you're a fixed end the master to fix in all that controls and buttons and takes a bit of getting used to when you come from those who liked me I was putting down tracks of ad so yeah built-in equalizer to where you can get the sound just like you want to so there are perks you know there are drawbacks but okay now we have to get into the best way to record your the level of your instrument because some of the biggest mistakes that I see is how people hook up their instruments and then wonder why they're recording is not loud enough or too loud or distorted or things of that nature I'm using the old keyboard resist though the Yamaha dx7 circle in 1982 one of the first synthesizers I ever owned now the first mistake is people want to use the headphone output no no no no no don't use the headphones output unless you got on headphones use the output that is what you want to come out of it does make the difference you plug into that and then you go into the input of your machine we're going to a for the keyboard here and on this particular machine you have to go and assign certain things first let's create a new song we'll just leave it whatever it reads I'm just gonna read with that song number zero zero five or zero zero three something like that and that's what this song will be just to give you an idea of how you make a new something but that's step one then step two you have to assign each instrument so since the keyboard is gonna come in on one that's the source then you go up to the side and you say hey I wanna sign this check one two this particular or whatever you know manual and you can do that contract - I'm going to assign the guitar or bass same thing but you're gonna come into the very last track ever switch over to the guitar and put and that's gonna kick up my volume and you'll see that the guitar input has been act activated and so it's gonna have a harder bottom but I'm gonna say okay that's fact two is gonna be number H and I'm gonna sign H then I can go an arm track two and bam I'm ready to record bass so forth and so on you get the picture [Music] okay and once you get your levels adjusted you can sit down some pretty decent tracks let's take a look at the bass as I pluck the bass as you can see that I'm not peeking not even indeed in the yellow but I can turn it up a little bit more but I get a nice clean signal that's what I'm looking for just follow this series and we will get down to laying down tracks but just like anything else you have to do the foundational work first my name is dr. Jam I do approve this message oh and by the way all the music that you heard let's put down on this machine we'll get to that stick around
5. NAMM 2019: Zoom LiveTrak L-20 Digital Mixer & Multitrack Recorder | SYNTH ANATOMY
hi my name is Samuel I'm with zoom we're here at the 2019 Namco checking out the live track l20 digital mixer so the live track l20 has 20 input 16 preamps but the thing that makes it special is beyond being able to live mix all of those you can record every channel individually plus a stereo mix all to an SD card you also have six monitor outputs these can be either headphone outputs or a balanced line output for stage wedges and ABCDEF relates to our fader mode ABCDEF where we can create a different mix for each of those outputs so for stage wedges each musician here's what they want to hear in a recording situation everyone can get their own headphones and the exact mix they want to hear for each channel we can select and that will bring up our channel strip we can control our eq sent to our two effects sections ten options on each channel and you have a couple controls you can even save all of your mixes that you can recall them later you can do all of this while using it as a USB audio interface to your computer where you can report the SD card report to your computer simultaneously you also record to ipad with full multitrack plus a stereo mix we've also included if you purchase our Bluetooth adapter an iOS control app which gives you full control over your master mix your monitor mixes effects even a graphic EQ to help you tune the room from the main PA xx options for your effects and you could use two at any time yet each channel can send to those two effects channels it's multiple mobile devices yes compatible with with iOS you can record all twenty tracks plus a stereo mix into your iPad so we put the idealities product it was before Oh a mobile-ready quality ah for both so for a band you know you usually have a setup when you're for your rehearsal studio is set up if you need to have a PA for a live show and then you also have your recording set up rather than have all of that this mixer can fill all of those roles do your live mix and record the live show bring it back to your rehearsal studio use it for rehearsing record your rehearsals or when you're ready to record the album use it - it's actually our highest quality preamps we offer and so you could use it as the audio interface right into your DAW or you can just record the SD card you can even remix in the Union create a new bounce down so it's really the possibilities are endless that can fill so many roles for a musician available now for 99999 okay thank you thank you

7. Tascam DP-008EX Digital Multitrack Recorder
this is the ex track digital multitrack recorder and you probably already know what it is you just probably want to know what it'll do and that's what I'm here to tell you and I am going to show you and I'm gonna do it in probably a series because there's an awful lot to this thing packed in it is got a lot of features this is basically a more less than old-school type piece of hardware for people who don't want to use a DAW if you like using a dog that's perfectly fine there's a lot to it you can drill way deep down and do all kinds of cool stuff master perfect recording whatever you can do pretty much the same thing with this it's obviously not gonna have as many features it's made really to be like a scratch track maker or a field recorder and it does both of those things really well you can record eight different tracks and mix and master after the fact and you can even bounce tracks down and fit more than eight tracks out here I'm gonna get into all that I'm gonna do everything this thing can do but I'm gonna start simple this is the unit it's got an old-school feel like I said you feel like you're using a mixing board it doesn't have sliders on it you know they it's got paws but it's okay it's small and that's the thing you know you can throw this thing in a little backpack or whatever and it runs on batteries you can use four AAA batteries or a battery compartment there or you can use the power supply and it's five volt DC and you can use any decent switches power switching power supply work I'm using a dowel Aksum you can buy the one from tascam I've got an old Dell ax and that happened to be 5 volt Center positive barrel fit so works powers it find but use your own discretion we're gonna get into everything about this thing but that's some of the basics so you know your inputs you can see you've got foot switch we'll get into that inputs tip shield and they are aligned or my client or guitar so it'll attenuate it's got two XLR inputs obviously and it's got outputs to plug into monitor system of whatever your choice and headphones which you'll probably use a lot microphones on the front if you just want to record like a piano or a guitar or a drum set you could do that and they do sound really good you can use them they are usable for sure or even a banning pointing it to man and record your you just record very simply if you want to or you know not use it as a mixer it's also a good recorder so I'm not gonna get too much more into the features right now you kind of already know what it is you want to know how it works so we'll do the features as we use them because otherwise this would be really boring so that's what I'm gonna do go through everything this dude will do so here we go
8. Tascam DP-03 VS DP-008 Digital Portastudio Multitrack recorders Comparison video
so here we have a comparison between the size of the two tascam units one is the DPO oh eight which is a small one here and then we have the latest which is the DPO three which does include a CD burner as well as the USP out USB out the DPO Oh 8 only has a USB out there is no CD burner this units a little more robust you get your faders and you get um the options you get knobs for EQ etc it's a little more advanced and it's also a little bigger this one basically is a souped up version of the DPO Oh 8 you still get your record buttons here just like you get them here you just don't get the faders here instead you get knobs to save space and your inputs are here and you have digital EQ so you'll have to go in and use the jog wheel in order to access it um both do include stereo condenser microphones it's just that this one's extremely portable the DPO 8 and you have the only option to get the music out is through your analog which both have here your analog out or on your USB so that you can burn to CD and or even mix the wave tracks in a different program if you have Apple or or PC it'll work with both so these are great this one's really portable because you can take it with you you can record live shows with the condensers this does also have phantom power however I would highly recommend using the power supply phantom power will just zap your batteries quickly this unit comes with the power supply it does also again have the CD burner and the USB out both units have the limitation of only recording two tracks at once simultaneously the bigger task and the 2 488 chem record I believe eight at a time and there's some other brands like zoom and such that will record more than two at a time so just bear that in mind that these portable task cams which are laid out much like the old Porter Studios except they both use flash cards and they can take up to 32 gigs they the hard drives there's none to replace so that won't fail and like some of the older machines if your hard drive fails it can be a little difficult to repair this is an upgrade from the DPO to so street value musicians friend I think this one's going for $4.99 that's a little high this one's going for $2.99 I bought these at B&H photo dot-com this one I got on sale for $2.99 this one I got for $1.99 and both come with the two gigabyte card however I was able to get a 16 gigabyte card for 1995 so each unit has a 16 gigabyte hard card inside of it so we will have some future video showing you how to export the tracks I'm also going I have some songs that I recorded on this one I'm going to see if I can get this card to play in this one there is another unit the DPO o 4 which is around 149 at B&H photo or 199 that musicians friend those cards you can actually record on an unlit 4 track and then insert it into this 8 track and it will play them I don't know if that's possible at this one but we're going to check it out so again I just wanted to give you a comparison on the size of both units and what they're capable of they do sound good the stereo microphones on both are actually pretty good especially if you place them in the right place so in a pinch if you are looking for a songwriting unit this one is really good very portable this one gives you a little more bells and whistles and again you can also connect the audio outs to some monitors when mixing down if you wanted to do a stereo mix before you go to your computer or you just use your computer to mix it down but this is great also either one is also great for recording band practices you can use the stereo mics or you can set up your own condensers just bear in mind only two tracks at a time that you can record but you can fill up all eight and then when you mix down you don't have to use any of the eight to your master tracks those are additional so you get a truly 8-track recorder so those of you who are looking for transition from the old tape decks these are awesome units and I recommend them and I really like the portability of them and again B&H photo has the best price on them so thanks for watching enjoy
9. Zoom Q8: 4 -Channel Digital Multitrack Recorder & HD Video Camera (NAB 2015)
hey what's up guys - girl keiko alingas with gear addix I'm here at NAB 2015 and I'm here at the zoom booth with Eric Eric how are you doing today I'm doing great good reaction so far a day one yeah it's been a great show day one here in Vegas so here at the zoom booth I know you guys are known for audio crack so but here you guys have something new called the q8 so can you tell me a little bit about it yeah so this is our brand new q8 camera it came out just about a month ago it is our second Q camera in the past few years so the camera before this was our q4 now we have our q8 and essentially it's a high-end audio recorder with high-definition video so you have two built-in XLR ports you have a touchscreen that shoots in a hundred and sixty degree wide angle lens that you can zoom forward with and it also has our series of interchangeable mic capsules so you'll see here you can swap it out with we have our shotgun microphone right here with us our mono shotgun we also have a stereo shotgun and a whole other wide variety of uses for this feature and when does it record an audio so it records 24-bit 96k audio up to that and a 2.3 K video so I believe that's 2036 pixels 2.3 K of the 4k scale that everyone goes by what frame rates doesn't offer so when you're recording at the maximum 2.3 K you can record 30 frames per second but if you step down to 720 I record 60 frames per second and ideally who kinda would resist it in this like podcast so it's really interesting because the more products that we put out the more we learn about how people are using them your initial thought is someone who's in a band could really want to use this a filmmaker could really want to use it not just as a main camera but also as like a side reference camera with high quality audio it's great for podcasters bloggers people doing stuff on YouTube even just you know a mom trying to record her child's piano recital how's the battery life on the q8 battery life is really strong the rechargeable battery I think you can get depending on your settings anywhere between three to five hours and then we also have replacement batteries and wall chargers and stuff like that so you can always have an extra battery ready to go so in terms of media I'm assuming it takes SD card yes so this records up to 128 gigabyte SD card ok what's the pricing on it so this is in stores right now for 3 99.99 and where can people find more information on it you can go to zoom - na dot-com and we have a beautiful page and I'll show you all the information you need to know about it alright thank you Eric
10. Aaton Cantar-X2 Digital Multitrack Recorder: A Swimmingly Good Field Recorder
we are trying at Eton to reduce the gap the time gap between film shooting and digital post-production so we developed the time cut concept 25 years ago by installing some time cut printers inside the cameras and developing sup some post production tools able to read this time code so when we developed this sound recorder we included inside the file the sound file some meta data generating a recording including a time code which is exactly and strictly the same at the run recorded in the film cameras which is allowing you to proceed with pre editing and one pass transfer on the tele cinema that sounds wonderful because people have so many problems with that is there anything else that you would like there's in any I know you can take these off yes you can what's that what's the advantage of that actually this is a sound proof and waterproof system code this is a field recorder which can be used of course in studio on account system where it's a very flexible system which can be handheld which can be put on the cart and we want it to manufacture a product which can be protected in all different kind of use outside in the desert in the rain forest or whatever you've got some you've got some interesting pictures here people using it what are some of the more crazy situations people have used it in the you know in the top of one of the biggest montagnes in in Malaya but by minus 40 degrees in the middle of the desert for desert sorry Miller desert yeah yeah for more than three months in the middle of the sand plenty of different very wild places and and also install down airplane fighters and stuff like this so it's I don't know how what is it about usually they're saying getting sand in it this is a proof unit it's not going to its water and sand proof it's not going there's not gonna be any kind put it inside the water but it's protected actually we used our experience with film cameras and how would you manufacture pretty reliable product and applied it to the sound recorder so it mean that the recorder is made of metal every part are sealed and independent of each I mean all the bolts are independent from the mic inputs from the line boots etc so it's preserve the heart of the product from external attacks this sounds really wonderful thanks a lot i appreciate your time this is gretchen hafsa from gear wire calm here with frank fish from otten check it out and it will be back later with more
