1. Expanding your Studio Workflow with NDI Converters
[Music] all right video guys live tuesdays at 3 p.m we teach you about products and technology and things we sell and things we do and i please ignore this screen this screen we talked about a little bit he's going to leave it going this is actually a screen that's we got it in the infinity loop which i hate so if we could take it out of that adam but what we're showing here is a demonstration this screen is going to actually be playing the output of a premiere timeline from across our facility so for now i want to talk about ndi encoders and what's going on and how those work great so let's roll on that okay what do ndi encoders do well ndi encoders let you take the hdmi sdi signal out of a camcorder or any other device and bring it into your ndi network it allows you to use gigi networking to send the ndi video all over the place as opposed to sdi or hdmi cables and more than that it lets you turn your camera and device into an ndi source that makes it available to every other ndiware product on your network so we've got a bunch of products that we're going to show you in the studio today that are ndi so right here we have a bunch of decoders from new tech and bird dog we've also got encoders that are available that we're going to be showing you from bird dog that are actually going to be for demo purposes we have a fully ndi studio going on today at the end of the show i'm going to talk to you about all that cool stuff we're doing in there and if you can just tell oliver to pause that somewhere because it's just getting a little distracting all right ndi n code versus d code now there's two different things going on if you remember what i told you over here we have ndi decode going that's basically taking an ndi signal and it's taking it and putting it on this monitor for the hdmi out we're using a bird dog flex to do that ndi encode lets you take a device lets you take the video out of a device convert it into ndi and then bring it across onto your network to use one of the cool things about ndi that's a really big deal about a year ago bird dog introduced ndi version 4 with version 4.5 they really knocked it out of the box and 4.5 does some things i think are really important if you real-time ios support it gave you tremendous improvements in ndi hx latency it gives you unlimited ip recording and that is any computer on the network can be set up to record the ip from anything there and then we also now have the ability to mix full ndi and ndi hx whoops i see we got all together without conflicts all right what is the difference between full ndi and ndi hx it's a great question we get that all the time so full ndi has lower latency and higher bandwidth to deliver superior image quality that's why in the 4k space pretty much everyone is going 4k has gone to full ndi ndi hx is lighter weight more compressed but it increases latency and it requires more computer power to decode when you get to the mixer or switcher so when people say which is better ndi or ndihx it really depends on your workflows and what you're using now what we found is when you're getting into the high res 4k and stuff you definitely want to be full ndi but this doesn't mean ndihx is a slouch it's great and you can mix the two together seamlessly in an ndi 4.5 world all right this is a big question and let's talk about what video switches mixers and software support ndi let's go to that camera on me we're waiting for the power dog p105 there we go that's okay well there's a lot going on on this show so if adam seems that he's sleeping he's not we have so many moving things going on at the same time that i apologize that so what switchers and mixers supported yeah because once again ndi is great but you need those main core devices to control the whole ndi show so what do you got you got the new tech tricaster you got wirecast and wirecast gear you got vmix and obs you got the epiphan pearl 2 and you have the panasonic av hlc 100 ndi livescription production switcher why do i want to bring that list to you because that's really the heart and soul of your ndi studio your ndi workflow so you've got to have an ndi switcher but as you can see just about every good switcher in the world out there now supports ndi so it's not really a big factor all right the other thing that i want to talk about we're doing it on today's show is you can mix ndi sdi and hdmi for your for your workflows so like we have most of everything in the ceo you see is ndi today but as an example like my main camera the cx350 we went in with that sdi the reason we went in with that sdi is we wanted to know we always recommend even in a crazy ndi workflow have at least one camera that that's hardwired in sdi or hdmi directly into your mixer switcher why because sometimes things go wrong and hardwired stuff is the most reliable and it's going to be there so we have that as you know our default camera coming in sdi we know we got it there if things get a little wonky anywhere in the ndi world perimeters we know we can bring it all back and i'm not trying to scare you about ndi ndi works fantastic we're using it for this whole studio but i like having that little insurance policy of at least one camera being you know directly sdi or ndi input all right so how do you integrate an sdr hdmi signal into your existing new ndi world well that's a great question because a lot of us have cameras that we've owned for years you might have camcorders you want to put into your system you may have some dslrs with hdmi out you may have some ptz cameras that you've had for a while that may or may not be upgradable to ndi but you don't haven't gotten there yet well the beauty of ndi is sometimes you need a converter to bring you in there sometimes you do it with firmware software today's show is about ndi converters we've got them here for you from new tech we we've got them from bird dog and there are other brands and other companies make ndi converters but we really feel that bird dog and new tech are just at a level above everybody out there so that's why they're the lines we carry and they're the products we're going to be focusing on for today's show all right next we're going to talk about the bird dog flex products now the blurry dog flex are three products there's a flex in and a flex out and a flex backpack they're all 3.99 flex in gives you up to 4k hdmi input it supports ptz control poe comms flex out is what we're using over here to show you the the monitor that we're driving and then the backpack is actually a flex in that also gives you the ability to have a six volt battery adapter so you can use it to power other devices like a atomos ninja as an example or a shinobi so we have a little demo going that we're going to show you right now that uh adam and the guy set up which you see there is two cameras using those uh converters the flex converters and we're gonna go show you the tally light how the tally light works so you know my tally light's red so i know that camera's on me and then the camera tally light goes red and that's the other camera that's on adam so we got a whole little thing going here just to show you how that tally works back and forth but we think it's really cool how bright and clear the tally is on these products so we wanted to show that to you in a little live demo so great job setting that up and that was all done over ndi folks some cool flex out nle workflows in the pre-show we talked about that you can have avid or adobe premiere play out of your timeline directly into your network and then with a plug-in for adobe or avid and then with a decoder you can have it go right to the screen so in the pre-show we were showing you adobe premiere playing right into the screen i'm wondering if oliver's available to hit play again from his timeline and if he hits play from the timeline we'll start seeing that video moving that's over here for me because that video is from adobe premiere and i apologize we don't have comms going to oliver in the other room so the way we're communicating him is over chat but as you can see that is a video that's actually playing off of the adobe timeline that you're seeing right over there so we're bringing the actual timeline in via ndi to us and we're also letting you see over here the actual output of that timeline using adobe premiere so cool little demo love that we went a little bit more in the pre-show so i don't want to dwell on that much longer okay next i want to talk about two really cool products the first two ndi converters we were selling and that was the bird dog studio and the bird dog mini now what i really love about these products is they're inexpensive products that give you encode and decode so the mini gives you encode and decode single hdmi input whereas the studio gives you sdi and hdmi both in and out great little products of 495 and 695. these two products are hd products folks they don't support 4k but there's a ton of 4k products coming later new tech has a whole host of hdmi solutions now these are really their second generation h uh they're second generation spark ndi converters the first generation of ndi converters were ndihx and they relied they used wifi and some other technologies as time progressed the folks at new tech really realized that we want to focus on the full ndi on 4k capabilities so we've got four different models and i'm gonna show you all four here if we can if we can bring this back on over here i'll talk over it as we go over it adam this is the original spark plus 4k converter it has hdmi in it is input only it's usbc powered and supports tally for 599. then we have the spark io 4k which is right here that's hdmi input to 4k and then that's 8.95 and then below that we have two sdi models that i want to show you we have the sdi 3g sdi and 12g sdi spark pluses and those are available for 995 and 1095 and the spark plus is over here these three all do encode or decode so very cool works great in your workflow bird dog has a 4k family of converters that are both encode and decoders 4k they have the 4k hdmi for 895 the 4k sdi for 995. and then they have this puppy right here folks and if we can i want to get right in on this one can we focus in on this camera here that's right look what's on the back of this folks four sdi spans this is the quad you can actually take four different sources sdi bring them into here 4k and you can now encode them to 4k from four different sources for 19.95 that's 500 per 4k source that's ridiculous that's insane that's phenomenal that's bird dog they just find a way to take ndi to 11. all right last week when we did our show and encoders we put up a little comparison chart so we've got a comparison chart over here i want i'm not going to go through each item i'm going to bring up the column so we're going to full full screen we've got the manufacturer we've got the product name we've got your price points we've got whether they do encode decode or both are they hdmi or sdi or both or if the sdi is at 3g or 12g and then we have the maximum resolution now remember anything that's 4k is going could support the hd resolutions as well and you'll see some of these things are actually 4k p60 now the color coding here is to go back in the show we kind of if you know each one of these represents the segments on the show that i've gone through today to go more in depth on what was in there so if you need to go through a refresher you can go back and see what we were talking about but i really like this chart let's bring it up full screen one more time we're going to embed this chart on our website on our blog in the in the notes for the youtube but here's a great way to get a look at what we feel are the best ndi converters in the industry bar none bird dog they have figured out a way to take ndi to 11 and new tech they created ndi they know everything about ndi you know their stuff's just going to work a notch better than the competition there's other ndi converters out there folks but for reliability performance stability and upgradeability over time nothing beats bird dog and new tech for your converters all right if we're going to talk about ndi and ndi converters i thought one of the things i wanted to talk about a little bit was ndi tools ndi tools we use them here it's a free download and the ndi toolkit gives you all these really cool tools that we got oh you took it full money right ndi studio monitor the vlc plug-in lets you plug any video you want you got test patterns you got the hx drives you got screen capture the adobe creative cloud plug-in that's what we were using you get webcam input access manager input io for adobe and ndi screen capture hx all these great features now there are additional ndi tools that you can purchase that are really cool there is an ndi tool that lets you turn your ios phone into a camera over your wi-fi network very cool cool stuff that's out there we love ndi tools we love new tech we love that vsrt bought new tech and put even more money into the brand than the name ndi that's what the show is about today and ndi converters encoders and or decoders are what makes an ndi studio possible using legacy gear and new gear that might be ndi right off the bat like the p100 camera we're using over there from burndog it's native ndi also you want if you want to learn more about ndi in general you want to check out ndi tv this is a little plug for that new tech over here that i thought was real important that i wanted to share with you guys now i want to go into something really cool and that is is how we did today's show today's show is powered by ndi so i'm going to go through and i'm just going to point around to all the stuff we have here you have to trust me what's where but over there my man adam is on the tricaster tc1 that's our main video switcher we also have a wire gas gear over there both of them attach the same network over ndi work light up see each other and see every camera that's in the eye in the room we have the panasonic cx350 right in front of me over there that's our main camera we chose to have that camera come in sdi and that's one of our little notes that we just have and that's where even in a full ndi where you've got ndi all over the place we like recommending that you have at least one camera one source that's hardwired into your switches so that if god forbid things go wrong with your network something hiccups you can always focus on that camera that's hardwired in while other things are being trouble shot or rebooted or what have you bird dog p100 right over there that's native ndi camera we love that camera it's a new addition to our studio i just think it's fantastic i love it it's only 15.95 we have ndi screen capture that's what brings in my powerpoint presentation puts it over my my shoulder over there we have a bird dog flex and a bird dog flex pack pack which we showed over there that we had going for our uh demo that we did before on how these different cameras work and those cameras were only in the show for the demo purposes but thank you adam is going to tell you to wave next let's bring it back over here this is this is we have adobe premiere pro and we have a bird dog flex out that's playing into that and you can see that over there that's that little box right over here the green box and that's the flex out that's powering this it's coming from from adobe for your timeline that's running on a computer on the other side of the building and then we just wanted to tell everyone that we are using the luxel av series 12 port 8 poe switch we really love that switch we tested a lot of switches for our show we wanted something that we knew we were going to get 8 poe ports plus additional ports for the tricasters and other stuff it's a great solution for us we love it of course we're tied into the larger network we have that's running cisco and meraki and wi-fi and all that good stuff that runs our general business but this is just what's going on in the studio and before we end the show on converters i wanted to give you a converter tech tip that a lot of people don't realize and that is there are a lot of cameras and out there that are 4k cameras but when you run the ndi hx firmware they're only hd you can get a 4k spark plus or bird dog flex attach that to your ptz or your regular camera and now you can get 4k output and why i bring that up is the flex encoder is 399. the hdix the hdx the ndi hx plug-in is going to be 2.99 to 399. for your camera or your ptz camera to be converted so for a lot of people i think you're better off using a converter than the software for what you want to do but whatever whatever works for you is cool and we love native ndi cameras but if you have a camera that's pre-native ndi that you want to make it to ndi you have two options you can add something like a bird dog flex or spark plus or you can do the firmware upgrade it's really your choice so i hope everyone really enjoyed today's show i love doing it i love talking about technology and how they work that we could do so many demos here live during the same time do our show is amazing we showed you adobe premiere timeline playing over ndi into a monitor that was on another part of the building we showed you how the tele lights work on the flexes with the two different flex products in the flex backpack which can be used to not only do your encoding but to also power a device like a ninja or an animo shogun we talked about different workflows that you can use with ndi integrating ndi sdi hdmi can all be used together the most important thing that i want to stress from this whole webinar is that ndi gives you a level of flexibility freedom and creativity flexibility freedom and creativity that you just can't match when you're dealing in an old-fashioned hardwire system where everything was hdmi or everything was sdi so i thank you for everyone for watching today's show it was real exciting great to show you all about this stuff i want to remind you that we're on instagram we're on facebook we're on youtube watch us like us love us share us comment on your clips we look forward to your feedback we enjoy doing these shows we like talking to our 2. BirdDog NDI Encoders | What Can You Do With These Full NDI Converters? Flex 4K, Mini, Studio NDI
hey guys in this video i want to show you some of the different ways in which you can utilize these little devices it's a bird dog ndi encoder and this model in particular is called the bird dog flex 4k in now there's already heaps of content out there on this model in particular so in this video i really want to just show you how versatile these ndi encoders are and show you some of the different ways that you can use them now this is really the main use case for using these mdi encoders and it's to take a video signal coming out the hdmi or sdi output of a camera and converting that to video over ip so you can then transmit your video across your local network ultimately to then bring that video feed into some form of software-based switcher that you can run your production on now we simply connect the camera's output to the encoder so with this gh5s i'm just connecting it hdmi to the encoder and then get the encoder on the network with an ethernet cable and if you have a poe plus network switch then you can actually also power the encoders but if not you can just use the dc power connection provided and then on any computer on the same network we'll be able to see the video feed coming from the encoder in that ndi capable software-based switcher such as new blues vivid cast which is what i'm using because it's really good for graphics but of course even free applications such as obs support ndi too now these encoders also have a built-in tally light system so when i make this encoder live in my switching software we get the red tally and of course when it's on preview it's green so if you're building up a multicam production with various different cameras brands and models this is one super easy way to also have an instant tally system that works across the board and if you're thinking how good is the actual video encoding well burdog use full ndi as opposed to ndi hx so what you're actually transmitting is full bandwidth iframe video there's a variable bitrate that you can set and you can actually go one step further if you go up in the range you can even toggle between 8-bit and 10-bit video so you really are getting a broadcast quality transmission now the flex 4k family do only have hdmi connections but you do have sdi options if you look further up in the range you can use these encoders as a simple way of recording your camera's output or actually really any hdmi or sdi device that is outputting video on a computer you just need to download the free ndi tools package from new tech which has the video monitor application in it and from here we can do a local recording of our video feed on the computer and again in broadcast quality so now you can ultimately turn any computer into a high quality recording device because pretty much all computers have the ability of joining a local network so no need to be worried about installing or speccing out the right video capture card we can just use the computer as is and away we go this one is more relevant now than ever considering how much video conferencing has skyrocketed there are some video conferencing platforms that allow you to use ndi sources natively so this will work straight away but for those that don't you can easily trick them into seeing the ndi feed from an encoder as a virtual webcam by using the free virtual input application from new tech so now regardless of what camera you have whether it's a dslr camera a hybrid mirrorless camera heck even a cinema camera as long as it can output video you can use it as the webcam in your chosen video conferencing platform now this one really ties in nicely with the first scenario of running a software-based multicam production and that's because with the flex 4k encoder we can cut down on the amount of cables that we need to run from our live camera area to our production switching area and that's because on these units there is actually a dc barrel output connector that can provide 15 watts of power so we can just use the one ethernet cable from our production area which has our poe plus network switch to the encoder and then from the encoder which would be on the cameras we have our hdmi connection and the dc out to the camera for power which would likely be a dummy battery in the likes of this gh5s we can even take this up a notch because these encoders also have a built-in com system you can plug in a headset in the encoder for your camera operator to wear and from anywhere else on the same network we can run the bird.com software and talk to the operators through a computer again you're getting a lot straight out of the box with these encoders for this you'll need a device that can decode ndi now the flex 4k out is the dedicated decoder in the flex lineup but pretty much all the other bird dog units can do both encode or decode such as this bird dog mini so they're even more flexible ultimately from any device on the network we can choose what ndi feed we want to send to the decoder this could be from another encoder this could be the output from a software based switcher or even just the video file playing on a computer if you have loads of screens that you want to send content to then this is a really easy and flexible way to do that it's perfect for live av and events so i hope you found this video useful and have a better idea as to just how versatile these bird dog ndi units are if you have any questions then do just put them in the comments and i will get back to you and if you want to find out some more information just head over to the holden website thank you very much for watching
3. NDI Converters Product Spotlight
4. How to do NDI Streaming Through Kiloview NDI Converter
5. Splyce X4 NDI – 4 Channel SDI to NDI Converter
hi I'm Eric Pratt from US broadcast distribution and today I have something really unique to show you I know I got really excited about a lot of different products but this one is really special it is a four channel SDI to NDI converter it's from switchblade and the products called this splice x4 NDI I have it here right beside me it's a 4 by 4 inch computer with 4 SDI ports on the front network and power on the back and all you have to do in order to get four channels of high quality full NDI onto your network is to plug in four SDI's power and ethernet and once it's booted up you'll see them up here on your network and with that let's do a little walkthrough of how to set that up and what it looks like in your system so this is the unit here it may look an awful lot like a nook and that's because it is it's a small form-factor computer with 4 SDI ports tacked on to it it has USB 3 HDMI power and Ethernet but in order to use this like the appliance that it's intended to if you want to just throw this in your studio and hook up four cameras it has to be able to just simply be able to be plugged in so I'm just going to plug in my SDI cameras and power and Ethernet and boot it up and see what exactly shows up in our list of NDI sources in vmix so we're here in V mix and this is where we're going to check our NDI sources we can go into NDI desktop capture and we can see the splice X for NDI inputs here so here's our four channels of SDI coming in and I've already added them to our project here so we can take a look at the different inputs coming in so here's our four different SDI inputs as the system booted up again without a keyboard or a monitor it's just behaving like an apply where the SDI video is going in and being converted to full MDI and of course you don't have to use this with vmix this will work the same in a TriCaster Wirecast or livestream or any system that's capable bringing in full MDI and since it's full NDI it's a very high bitrate and you can use it to do just about anything at that point that is capable of taking NDI and doing something with it in this case I've hooked it up to the turbo the Switchblade turbo is our portable vmix system but you could use it in a variety of situations you could use it with a laptop for example running vmix getting SDI sources multiple SDI sources into vmix is into a laptop is traditionally a challenge you have to use non-locking Thunderbolt cable and a thunderbolt enclosure and the support for these things varies widely so this is sort of like if you could think of this as a networkable IO 4k or other external Thunderbolt device that doesn't need to be anywhere near the system that you're doing your live production on so it's a very flexible device and speaking of that flexibility let's take a look at actually connecting to it as if it were a computer instead of just an appliance now since this is a computer we can also hook up a keyboard monitor and mouse to it and instead of using it like an appliance we can use it like a computer so if we wanted to hook up a keyboard monitor and mouse to it we can now take a look at what the appliance is UI looks like surprise its vmix behind it what vmix is doing is it's taking in the four SDI inputs and it's converting them to NDI and if we wanted to change the name of our NDI channel we would just go into here and we would rename the name of it and that way if we wanted to do center left/right and wide we would rename our inputs accordingly and they would show up in our NDI sources with different names and because it's vmix we can also do something like use HTTP matrix to send it API commands allowing it to act like a switcher without ever plugging in a monitor keyboard or mouse we can start and stop recording start and stop streaming make it do a variety of things that v-necks is capable of doing and that is some of the added flexibility and functionality of the splice x4 NDI is that it not only behaves like an appliance to tear in for SDI sources into NDI it can also do multiple other things at the same time because the system is quite flexible and powerful so you can use it as if it were an appliance or you can use it in value-added method as well I think we can all agree that this is a pretty amazing product it has a number of uses and if you want to bring four SDI sources into NDI into your production this is certainly something to consider it's a very small form factor and it's very portable making it ideal to bring with you with a laptop to your venue and to bring in those four NDI sources via your network into your laptop for live streaming you can also use it as a standalone entity to bring in those four sources and stream or record some of them you could use it in your studio to bring in for SDI sources into your NDI environment and you don't have to be anywhere near that environment as long as you're connected by a network it's also capable of being rack-mounted you could rack mount four of these together and you would have up to sixteen sources in a very dense population there are a lot of different applications for this and it's extremely cost effective on a per input ingest level so you're able to use this with a wide variety of platform that all supports NDI and you're able to add at a very cost effective way a number of different sources here so it's very flexible as we've discussed being able to use the API to connect to it and to send it commands if you want to learn more about that you can check out the HTTP matrix location on our website u.s. broadcast co and if you have any more questions about the product please feel free to reach out to us at US broadcast co our Facebook page or check out Switchblade systems.com thanks for watching
6. The Smallest NDI Converters in the world : BirdDog Flex 4K Family!
i'm removing my mask guys so move away nothing can dampen my spirits today hi my name is larry and today we're going to talk about bird dogs latest products the flex 4k family and to help me talk about this products i want to introduce to you our virtual specialist hi larry hi larry great greetings everybody i hope you are all okay you know you don't have to speak like that right i know man i'm just playing my name is lar-e and i'm one of mediacast's virtual specialists and today i'm excited to talk to you about the latest products from bird dog released just now i might add let me introduce to you the bird dog flex 4k family the world's smallest ndi converters in this video we will show you two products the flex 4k in and the flex backpack it's following the success of their earlier encoders and decoders the burdock studio the virgo mini the 4k encoders decoders now they've created a product that primarily focuses on people who are just looking for a device that would just either encode or decode you know they don't need both functions at the same time right absolutely larry and we have spoken to a number of our customers in the region who are just looking for that as it would save them a lot of money in turn hold on to your seats because we will show you how it works yes now this is your bird dog flex in first up it's poe powered so i just connected it to our poe switch and now it powers the device on your first use of the product you have to log in to its web interface let me show you the web interface let me take it from here larry now in order to access the web interface of the bird dog flex you would need to connect to the device via its ip address there's an easy way to do this and that's by using the serial number located on your bird dog device using the last five digits of the serial number type in bird dog dash the last five digits of the serial number dot local and voila behold the web interface of the flex 4k in that's really easy and i think i know what the password is i know it too the default password of the web interface is bird dog in all small caps and now you're in larry has mentioned some unique features of the product a while ago lag it's the world's smallest ndi encoder it's really pretty portable when you get the flex backpack series you basically get an npf style mount that can basically power your monitor so you power this via poe but it's actually more than that the creators and the product developers from bertoka spent a lot of time putting the most of the ndi technology in this small box really exciting stuff guys really and you can see all of that when you look at the user interface and from here you will see that you know there's no input connected right now the system is active and from the network you can set your ip and here's how you set it if you have a dhcp server you can also use dhcp for the configuration method we don't so i'm using a network switch right here so i put just static right there we all know that the flex in is an ndi encoder it's actually a 4k encoder which means that i can have a 4k source convert it to ndi and then let it run through our network right so when you look at our av setup you will see that under video mode it allows me to choose between 4k and hd resolutions we can also manually indicate the video input format which we will leave to auto for now now there are pretty unique things about bird dog when it comes to them creating their ndi encoders and these are some of it first the onboard tally bird dog has a very special tally system right here yes i know that halo tally light is pretty awesome yes the halo tally light and it's really really cool now let's dig more into the system the latest release of nvi is capable of fail safe and the engineers from bird dog has integrated that into their converters so in the interface you can actually see that you can assign your failover source so if anything happens to the source the mdi network will immediately switch to that failover source so bird dog integrated that into the system so not all ndi encoders can do that because that feature is specific to manufacturers so if they want to integrate that then they can integrate that and happily burdock did that additionally you also have a ptz control available in the system which means that if you've connected a ppc camera that is not ndi and you want this device to convert that to ndi at the same time run your presets of the camera you can absolutely do that as well and for ndi lovers out there you know that ndi4 is now capable of multi-tcp transmit method so in your interface you have that option of running in multi-tcp as well hey larry yes i'm hyped up let's show the flex in action of course talking about our setup we have our flex in connected to the same network as my laptop now all i have to do is connect my camera source that has an hdmi output and no ndi functionality whatsoever and connect that to our flex in now let's look at our web interface so as you can see here at our ndi connection info it says that has no input all i have to do now is first find the cable and then connect it to the flex and it instantly updates the source so right now i'm running a 1080p 50 422 signal coming from my camera which means that right now this camera is now available as a source that can be used by any ndi-capable devices in our network hey larry yes now that we've connected the camera to the flex in let's access the video signal through mdi the easiest way to test it is to open your ndi tools if you're running on windows it's gonna be the ndi studio monitor and if you're running on mac like what we have right now all you have to do is open your ndi video monitor now ndi video monitor is a tool that lets you see or monitor all the ndi sources that are available in your network for example in our setup right here we have the burdock p200 our ptz camera connected to the same network with our ndi encoder right here which is the flex in now if i click the hdmi and that's basically our producer right there and she's the one running the show hello and that's how easy it is the flex is truly an awesome product as it packs a lot of punch in a small form factor imagine transmitting your video signal power and more all in a single cable as you can see there's a lot of potential when you start to consider mdi in your production workflow and we really didn't talk a lot about it there's a lot of things in that so you have your dental support not to mention built-in intercoms using bird.com yes he's correct and you have your tally you have your poe power you have your fail-safe function and a lot more to know more about these products you know how to reach us again my name is larry and my name is lari thank you for watching
7. NewTek 4K NDI Converters
8. THE MUST HAVE DEVICE for Streamers, YouTubers & Broadcasters. KILOVIEW N40 4K HDMI TO NDI CONVERTER!
are you like me a live streamer content creator uh maybe broadcast Live Events and you want a 4K solution where you can have multiple cameras screen capture all in sync so you can post edit really easy I've got a solution for you [Music] as an educator in audio post production I wanted a solution where I could capture multiple cameras and screen capture in one go whether it was live stream or creating content for YouTube ndi is video over Network and it's really versatile you can do so much with it whether it's bringing in audio from different sources as I said multiple cameras and your screen capture and I've found a solution it's by kilo view it's the N40 kilo view we're kind enough to send me two N40 units one for my main camera and one for my Dan camera which you can see here which will show off my mixing and controllers so that when I'm doing a tutorial or a live stream people will be able to see what I'm doing I've also been given their recorder software which is a multi-channel ndi recorder and it brings everything in sync so you can have all your cameras and your screen capture in sync I'm going to show you the recording software later but for now I'm going to show you the ndi N40 unit I've got one here I'm currently actually using the other one up the top on the second camera oh look at that I haven't even pulled it out of its wrapping so this is going to be a slow process maybe I'll speed this one up the N40 unit is simple and small it even has mounts on the top and bottom and an adapter where are you an adapter here for your camera so you can Mount this straight on the top of your camera on this unit you have ethernet which is poe so it means you can power this unit straight from the ethernet you've got to make sure that you have a bridge that has Poe on it but it means you don't have to have extra power for this now the u40 which is a different unit or it's got similar features it also can power your camera which is really cool out of a 5 volt Port but unfortunately you can't do that on this one but I don't need to here because I've got more than enough power in my studio but you have an in and out so you can decode it back again so if you want to send a signal back from your computer into this into a recorder or whatever it might be the other thing is it does have a headphone jack for headphones with a mic so you can use it if you've got a camera operator and you want to have TalkBack you can use that and it also on the front has another USB I think that's for just doing thermal upgrades and stuff but you also have a giant tally light on here which is kind of cool so if you want to know which camera is on if you're doing switching and stuff you can use that tally light one thing to note this thing does heat up a bit I don't think it's a concern but it does get warm I'm assuming it's doing a lot of juicy stuff in there so it um requires it to heat up the other thing is you have just a USB port so that's how you power it so you can technically just power it with any kind of USBC so if you want to plug it into your computer or something like that you'll be able to power it off that USB cable so what I'm going to do is show you how to set this thing up because I had a little bit of trouble doing that you just got to make sure you set things like an IP and stuff because if you don't do that you might have connection issues but once it's sorted Rock Solid it connects and then after that I'm going to show you the ndi recording software which I'm actually using right now when you want to get started with your N40 you have to first connect to its IP address so you can change its settings internally now what we need to do is go to our Network and I've got a separate ethernet USB dongle that means I can stay connected to the internet we want to change the properties here so I've given my computer or that network card the IP address of 192.168.1 170 the actual unit and it says it in the manual is it's uh 168 at the end there so you put in the subnet that it requires and you click OK once you've connected your IP address on your network you then go to your browser and actually find the IP so it's 192.168.1168 for the unit and here you log in and the admin sign up is admin and funnily enough admin is your password and you have to put in a new password so let's put in that's can't see it hopefully and then you need to log in so put your new password in and now we're in so once you've logged in you can change the camera name you can change what channel it's on so if you've got multiple units which I do you can set that up so that they're labeled properly so when you pull them up in the ndi recorder they'll be labeled correctly once you have connected it to a camera it'll tell you what resolution it's bringing in so it'll default to whatever the camera brings in so 4K 60 FPS or 30 FPS and I'll tell you what bitrate which you can actually change so decoder is for the output of the unit which I'm not interested in at the moment but you can use that the one thing I had a bit of trouble with was connecting the N40 to the recorder software I found that when you set an IP address rather than using DHCP Dynamic that it connected easily so my suggestion is given an IP address that will fit with your network I'm not going to do that right now for this unit but I just wanted to show you this software so that's the main thing that you need to do and then remembering once you've connected your camera you'll actually see all those details here of it coming in you'll see that the feeds coming in so you know that when you go to the recorder software you'll see something here you can see at the moment my top down camera and I've got screen capture with which is just doubling down and so this is a recorder software you can have multiple channels I think you can get a free version that does two two channels so if you're just gonna have a camera and a screen capture set up you'd be fine to get their free software the paid version which I've got will mean I can have my two cameras and I could even have multiple screens captured so you can see here it's recording I've been gone for 30 minutes now uh at least recording and you can see all the details so here's the hard drive that I'm recording to how full it is and it shows you the performance and obviously the Sync here as well so it's synced to the computer IP so you can see here on sources I've actually got the ndi toolkit from the ndi website and that means I've I've got a screen capture happening at the moment and that's the screen capture there from my desktop and you can see here the N40 unit which is the one up there and that is connected through that IP address that I set you can here you can have multiple screens although I'm recording so I can't but you can set up to so many channels like you could do a full-blown production with this thing with you know 20 30 cameras screen captures all those delicious things and you're good to go and so this is recording and it puts it into two separate folders named whatever I've named it here so camera one and screen capture and then those files will be in sync so in the future with the camera I'm recording myself on now I'm just recording this on the card because I wanted to unbox the unit but eventually I'm just going to have all three units straight into here it's all going to be in sync I can grab those three videos and just Chuck them straight into DaVinci Resolve and edit uh through there one thing to note here you can see my audio levels going up and down uh the good thing with the ndi toolkit is with the screen capture you can pick a microphone and I've actually got my microphone plugged into that and then I'm also capturing scrap scratch audio on the camera and it means I can sync it up really easy but you know in the future I won't even need to do that I could also bring in my computer audio through ndi so that I have my computer audio my microphone two cameras probably gonna end up having multiple screen captures as well because I've got a big projector screen where it shows the production I'm working on as well as my main screen for you know my software so this is just a bit of an overview and an unboxing of the kilo N40 units and their recorder software obviously that's just an initial setup but I'm going to do a couple more videos one on how I'm going to use it for live streaming when I've got my two cameras multiple screen captures set up as well as how I'm going to use it to capture content in 4k and produce high quality videos and edit those in DaVinci Resolve so make sure you look out for those videos I've been bending up from noisy post make sure you subscribe like and send me some comments if you've got any questions or maybe tell me how you might use these N40 units and I'll see you on the next one [Music]
9. NewTek Spark Plus IO NDI Converters Top Streaming Product of 2020 by Videoguys
the spark plus io ndi converters now these ndi converters are available on their own but they're also available as part of the new tech tricaster 4k tricaster mini 4k and i want to go into what these products really do i have them right here there's two different flavors there's the sdi flavor and then there's the 4k hdmi flavor and what these are is not just the ability to go from a camera in sdi or in or in hdmi to a tricaster or any other ndi aware mixer but there are also decoders what's so cool about decoding well we've done some shows we've really talked about that in depth decoding means that you can actually take the signal from your mixer and now any network port in your facility can now be plugged into a decoder and power a television screen so people can monitor or watch your show for houses of worship it's great for overflow and spill rooms for corporate video it's great when you want to show the video to more people it'll fit in the small corporate advertising space for education it opens up a whole new possibility of ways to do something and it even opens up something that i think is really cool and that is in post-production world now you don't have to have the director or the producer over your show they could be in another room so i want to stress that before we get into this product that while the products are great standalone what i really love is that they're bundled with the tricaster tc mini 4k the tc mini 4k is a completely ndi solution for under ten thousand dollars for seven thousand nine ninety five you get the tricaster mini 4k and two of the spark plus for a spark plus io 4k converters and it's also available bundled with a control surface and a travel case for under 10k for 99.95 so kudos to new tech you've done a great job with the spark plus sdi and spark plus io 4k video guys top products of 2020 way to go new tech thank you for watching this highlight from the video guys live webinar if you like this video or you want to learn more check out the full webinar in our description or head on over to videoguys.com for more information
10. Kiloview N60 4K Bi-Directional NDI Converter First Look
hey everybody jeffrey powers here from geekazine we're here at nab 2022 and we're here at the kilo view booth and we're going to talk about this right here this is the n60 and uh we're gonna check this out for all your ndi needs next on geek izzy so if you saw my video a few years ago when killerview came out we had some great ndi products and of course they've grown since then and they've created full workhouse workflows including their core ndi workflow so which includes a main server and then a bunch of boxes it goes to cameras that goes to computers it goes a lot more well during nab they announced this right here this is the n60 encoder box and basically we'll take a look at the back we've got uh we've got hdmi usb uh can't you could do a usb camera you can do hdmi and through pass-through if you need to and then we got two ethernet here one is poe and then i'm not sure if this is a pass-through or this just redundancy on there but uh you probably probably for redundancy right here it is camera mountable as you can see right here so we can take off this mount uh or put on this mount for that matter and then put it right on top of a camera it is not wireless but it is wired so you can have a camera uh running through an ethernet going back to them to the main core so somebody can be uh pulling video from there and switching around if you need something wireless they do have uh things like this right here this is the uh ni right here so this would fit on top of the camera uh this is sdi based i think they yeah they also have the hdmi based one right here take a look at that so if you need one or the other you have the option right here and then you can go wireless back to the back to the switcher back to uh the producer so they can switch everything out the front panel a full full lcd panel with jog wheel right here so you can make your changes uh how you're going to encode through pass through and this goes up to resolutions in 4k set this up into a camera and then run that bring that back to the main unit lots of other cool features uh through the n60 through kiloview we've got as you saw we had the other ndi the boxes right there we got the decoder right here from kiloview this is the d300 kilo view uh encoder that's sdi um they probably also make an hdmi model as well it's it's a smaller booth it's part of the ndi pavilion so as you can see they got their u10 right here it looks like a little hockey puck but this guy brings 4k hdmi into from the camera into whatever workflow ndi that you have from there and then of course what's is that the core box right there this is the it's the cradle series encoding decoder that's the cradle series right there so tell me about it so these are swappable so you can build this chassis however you need in terms of you can make this a full decode box this is basically a d300 decoder okay that was the decoder i showed you a little bit earlier but that's this is in a chassis form okay you can fill this thing up with a bunch of d300s and just make it an srt rtmp rtsp to ndihx out or hdmi out okay perfect now i was here for the n60 and that's what we were that was we i think i got most of the features 4k is it 4k 60 or 4k 30. 4k 60 ndi full ndi and ndi hx okay decode and encode and it will be hx3 down the line right that is what we are assuming that's what you're working on yeah oh absolutely so the other thing is uh the two network ports one of them's poe is is is there is it network passthrough or is it uh is it redundant it is redundant okay okay and then uh it there is no sdi is your plan for an n60 with an sdi we are just going to assume that because most of their most the chances of what they build comes with both versions p1 p2 and one into that i would assume an sdi version is down the as down the road map okay perfect and what was the price on the uh and n60 it hasn't been priced out yet yeah so we're hoping to an expectation of it to be shipped later this year and then from there a pricing will announce i'm gonna ballpark this around a thousand bucks okay twelve hundred yeah that's just the base about right just basing off of um how they price their their other products all right well thanks a lot for uh filling me in there joshua you got it and of course a lot of cool stuff here at the killer view booth nab 2022 jeffrey powers with key kissing youtube.com forward slash geekazine of course geekazine.com go ahead like subscribe comment hit that bell notification so you know when the next video comes out we got a lot more videos so check out the playlist and if you have any questions feel free to contact me or just comment below thanks a lot for watching until next time you guys geek out
