1. FoMaKo PTZ Controller – Good & $$$
well greetings recently i reviewed the new focomo uh 20x sdi camera which is sort of their entry-level basic ptz camera and i declared it actually quite good very good and if you haven't seen that video i invite you to go back and watch it i especially like how it did its color representations it's really one of the best that i have tested so far now they reached out again and asked if i'd be interested in looking at something else this guy which is their ptz controller which if you're going to have a ptc camera it makes sense to have a ptz controller now again the standard disclaimer i did not buy this they sent it to me to review but i promise nothing and i promise you that i am honest in as much as i can be in in all of my reviews uh but i just want to be upfront for that in in the beginning however i was excited um to look at this because i haven't actually looked at a lot of controllers i have the one that that we ourselves purchased here and i have been using and i'm curious how this one is going to compare both paired with focomo's own cameras and also the other variety of cameras that we use in this place so why don't we crack this thing open and get it out of the box and put it through its paces all right here we go this is the focomo ptz controller i have actually seen this box before um and i've noticed it doesn't actually have any focus branding on it anywhere um as far as the box goes which is not you know totally unsurprised given that these are all you know made in some factory somewhere uh but right off the bat we've got their i ptz camera ipcontroller user manual um and again this is in color um and it's nice seems to be nicely done which i like um so we got that which is good um we got this as i imagine various adapters oh this would be our power adapter so you got a barrel plug um connector um and a wall wart style i do believe this will run um poe so if you just want to do a single cable install with power over ethernet i do believe you can do that all right pull out our protective film here and then we've got the controller itself in this rather nice bag again these things are well packaged which is good given how far away they're coming from all right i'm gonna set the box um down over there all right so here is the controller itself and it does have some some focomo branding on it they did do that um and seems to be a fairly standard um layout on on how it's working here but um let me set it down and see if we can't get a slightly better angle on this all right well first thing we're going to do is of course remove the film that is always satisfying and i'm just going to take a quick look and give you some initial impressions of what i'm seeing on the layout i mean all these things work pretty much the same we have our standard joystick here for up down and left right um the the ptz speed is always nice if you want to do a slower or faster tilt to have that adjustment there we have focus knobs it looks like i really like that so this is your focus knob and this is your iris knob so this is how much exposure you're getting this is where your focus is most of the time on similar controls these are buttons basically a focus up focus down that kind of thing near and out having them as knobs i think is going to be really nice so that that is a nice feature we seem to have a separate um zoom with on a nice rocker switch there that actually feels pretty good joystick feels pretty good there's your auto focus and and then your auto exposure um buttons so that when you're playing with your focus and you get it all messed up go back and hit the auto autofocus button that's there right there that's nice camera on screen display and home i i'm curious how those work um and if they work um you know and how they work with your cameras and if they'll work over the ethernet network connection so that'll be interesting thing to play with um otherwise you know the same kind of setup you have in most of these there's your cam so recalling which cam you want to you know control there's your preset recalling which preset you want to control usually it's something like preset one enter i imagine this is going to work in the same way this i really like um so these are uh preset hot keys for cam one cam two cam three and cam four instead of having to go cam one enter you can just go cam one cam two cam three cam four and cycle between your cameras and which one you're controlling that is a very nice feature and you wouldn't believe how old it gets especially if you're doing a lot of changing around even those three button presses versus just the one button press most places are gonna run four or less cameras so having those hotkeys right there i can tell you right now i really like a couple things that this one is missing you've got a simple led right here that is obviously the way you kind of set it up and control what's going on which means there's no preview so you're not getting a video preview on the controller itself like you may in some other ones now the controller we use in our daily production does have a preview window on it and will show you the video from the camera you're controlling it is helpful for that because it helps you know which camera you're controlling honestly it's not helpful for much beyond that because frankly the quality on those built-in screens is so low that even using it to try to get a decent focus or deep exposure um is pretty difficult because again the quality just isn't there so i will show you some video on on how our current setup is and why it is that we actually rarely if ever use um the preview screen anymore all right so first impressions uh this is really good it's got a lot of features i do like it's got some heft to it like this is kind of a heavy unit i'm i'm guessing that this is actual you know metal um you know aluminum my probably guess and so i'll do like that um you know so here on the back we have a pretty basic set of ports there's your ethernet which is most everybody's gonna do because anymore we all use envis or vsco or one of those things if you do have the old rs 422 connector you've got that if you got the rs322 connector which is a serial connector you've got that most places are going to use this and then you've got your standard um 12 volt in and your power switch so yeah all in all i'm going to say uh the build quality looks good uh the buttons feel good um all the the switches and stuff feel good and they definitely have fixed some issues um that i've seen with other cameras and i will say that that's so far been a kind of a highlight of the focomo products both this and their camera is they do seem to be addressing a lot of the kind of everyday usability issues uh that people can sometimes have you know with these quick links all right so i'm gonna do now is i'm gonna actually get it hooked up i'm gonna hook it up uh to my network i'm gonna hook it up to my camera over there uh and see how that goes all right as i expected when i plugged in a power over ethernet network source it just fired right up uh which is great it does have this one weird quirk that a lot of these have which is there's a power button on the back that i'm flipping right now and as you can see it totally ignores it it won't ignore it when it's on um it's on it's on its own power on its power adapter but when it's over poe um it totally ignores it and it's just on um so that's a weird little quirk um of these guys all right so when i booted it up um it did come right up to the screen as you can see it's displaying the ip address that it comes with and this is a focomo standard they all seem to come defaulting to this 192.168.5 subnet you know or ip address setup which i guess is okay i never understood why these things don't boot into dhcp in the first place um it's not like it really matters um where this thing you know what ip address this thing has um but i guess that's what they do all right after a little bit of playing with it and realizing i made the bowhead mistake of not actually having this thing plugged into my network um the the poe was plugged into power but it actually wasn't plugged into the network once we did that um things worked out now i did find out there is um a way to do dhcp so you don't have to do a manual ip address if you don't want to and i don't want to you can do dhcp which is great and then when it boots up it tells you what ip address that's been given so if you do want to access the backend features you can alright it's also telling me that i have it on onviv mode which is what i want to use because that's what i use for all my cameras here and supposedly i can just hit this search button i do like that that it lights up green which i hopefully you can see that on the camera it lights up green while it's doing something while you're interacting with it so you know something's going on that's great all right it says search zero one out of four that's perfect there are four um on vid cameras on my network right now so that's what i would expect it to find i'm gonna look for this guy number 44 because that should be the one sitting on the counter here so we're gonna say enter on that one user i don't have any user information password set up and i want that to be cam number two um i like that it asks you that a lot of these auto allocate the cam number that i like that likes to ask you the cam number all right so um that is set up now so i should be able to hit the cam 2 button it says connecting oh user password error on biff ah i bet i do have a password on there hold on all right i did mess up there wasn't a username password there once i added that came right up hit cam 2 this is pretty sweet so cam 2 stays illuminated so i know that's the camera that i'm on which is great it lets me know that i have auto function and auto ae you know as options camera osd does not light up so i'm not sure if that's an option or not um and then i've got some other things set up but if i and it is moving my camera over there all right i'm going to change things around a little bit here um so you can see uh on the screen what it is that i'm doing with the camera alright so i have the controller all hooked up um as you saw it's hooked up to uh the focomo camera here and everything works the way that you would kind of expect it to i've got it pointed at my test card here there's my zoom control using the twist feature on the knob it also has a separate zoom control um in this little rocker switch right here um which could be handy if you wanted to you know both tilt it you know if you wanted to be able to you know do it's two-handed i guess i don't know um it is a nice feature um otherwise i would say it kind of works as you would expect it works as a controller um i would on the whole um i like it so we can play again with our focus here we can make it really unfocused yeah that knob is nice um to have and then of course we can go ahead and the auto focus button and bring it back into focus we could open our exposure up if we want to um and then go back to auto auto exposure if that's what we want to do um yeah so on the whole um i do i do like it there are two function buttons in here f1f2 if you're controlling an onviv mode that's you can send special onvid commands to it that's a pretty deep cut though for most people because you actually have to put in the numerical onviv command that you want it to execute to use those so are most people going to use those probably not same if you're using visca as control and because a lot of these cameras will do both onviv and visca this will do onvin visca you know it's up to you and your preference how you want to use that i think visca is a little bit of a newer technology but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter so things i like about it on the whole is those quick keys seem really good i think if i were an operator using this on a daily basis would feel good the fact that it is pretty heavy means it's not going to slide around on your desk while you're using it you know which is good and and overall the features seem pretty solid and the setup was remarkably easy to to set up once i actually got it properly hooked into my network which was totally my fault not the fault of the controller things i don't like it doesn't have the preview window which is sometimes handy that that would be nice to have it doesn't do ndi um level control which is a obviously the newest protocol for controlling cameras is ndi not every camera has or can do ndi um so you know we've got a a little bit of a challenge there so maybe that's not the biggest deal but i do kind of wish it could do that and then finally the biggest thing about this one is the price point so this one uh focomo sells for about 560. they do have another one that is a little bit more basic less features doesn't have the separa zoom rocker switch and a few other things like that that's more like 250 i would say that 250 price point is more in line with some of the competitors on the market i believe the one that we use on a daily basis which does have the preview window but doesn't have the rocker switch and probably isn't as maybe robustly made as this was somewhere in there so uh for uh so let's say that's the one kind of drawback on it is the price this does seem um a little expensive now if that means what you're buying is quality and it's gonna last for a lot of years and it's you know that kind of thing then that's great um that that seems to be the way i haven't owned these for very long so that's hard for me to say uh they do seem well built all the things seem quality uh the knobs and the buttons and the way it lights up and all of that i mean i do think they put a lot of thought and effort into this project so if you just kind of are a little less cost conscious and just want something good and robust that is going to work i would say this is a pretty good option in that regard if you can get past that 560 price point which is a bit high for for a controller now i did try this with the other cameras we have some smart av and the two honey optics cameras here i connected to those just fine it seems to be fairly agnostic as far as what the camera on the receiving end is as long as it supports one of those standards on the visca or you know whatever you happen to be using so all i say i'm pretty impressed with it and seems to do its job and do as well uh and has a couple extra bells and featuals and some nice nice nice features for for what it is and they really did obviously take some of the actual user experience um into consideration so if you're looking for a controller i would say this is a a good one again if you can get past that price point on it all right well um i hope you found this video useful there are links in the 3. How to Connect a PTZ Controller to a PTZ Camera
foreign CCTV camera world is proud to provide support for products purchased from our website if you purchased your product from another vendor please contact the vendor you purchased from for further assistance here we're going to show you how to connect that controller to this camera over the network while still being able to watch the camera through this ndr or DVR so we've got some network connections going out of this controller going to Poe switch cable going out of this camera into that switch this is not a Poe camera but it could be it could be a puptc or anything as long as it's connected to a switch has the right IP address for both of them to talk to each other over the same network including this recorder being on the same network aim of this video is not to show you everything is to show you how to get this controller to talk to the camera this camera has an IP address of what 109 so it's 192.168.1.109 I'm going to flash it across the screen now this controller has an IP address of what when you take it out of the box uh it's set to DHCP which means it automatically gets an IP address out of the box so we're going to set it to an IP address of 112 so it's going to be 192.168.1.1 till 12. so I'm going to zoom in here and have you see how we set that on the controller okay first you're going to hit enter to log in the username is admin the default password is going to be 6 8 so it's 888-8888 and then you're gonna hit the enter key to finish logging in now there's Zone control and menu setting Zone control is to control a Zone a Zone being a PTZ an NVR or any camera or system that you have added to your keyboard so in order to add a Zone to our keyboard we first need to go down to menu setting and then first set an IP address so that's in the system setting or one so you can hit enter or press the one button and then here we have our time settings ntp which tells the keyboard how to get time and then there's Network so network is where we're going to set the IP address so we can either hit three or hit enter by going down to the three button as I said DHCP is set by default out of the box so we're going to go ahead and turn it off by toggling the joystick to the left so I just did a left toggle here it's going to turn it on and off as I do that and then I need to hit enter it's going to turn DHCP off here was the IP address that it was set to so it was 192.168.1.201 and as my colleague explained we're going to set it to 112. now usually subnet mask you can leave alone if you know what a suddenite mask is you're going to know what to set anyway leave it default 255-255-2550 if you don't notice of that mask is down if you go down again I'm just going down on the keyboard to get between these menus you're going to see the Gateway now this is usually going to be 192.168.1.1 if you are in this type of network if you're not in this type of network this is the IP address for your router whether it's 192.168.1.254 or 10.1.1.1 if you have a Comcast modem or router or any variation depending on what network you are in make sure you that you set the gateway to whatever your router's IP address is and in our case it is 192.168.1.1 last but not least is the port number three quadruple seven that's standard across all of our equipment you're going to want to leave that as default and hit enter to successfully save that if we go back into this menu we'll see DHCP is off we hit enter again we'll see our IP address of 1.12 was successfully saved I'm just going to hit the Escape key to back out of there to this menu so we've gone ahead and set a network IP address that is compatible with our Network which means it can talk to the camera over the network now it's time to add the camera so I'm going to escape back out of this menu again we were in the system menu and then we're going to go so this section there's a second section of this video we're going to show you how to connect this controller to your camera we already showed you is how to set an IP address on this controller so I can talk to the camera on the same network now it needs a Zone setup camera set up inside of a zone so it can talk to that camera to move it we're gonna do that now all right so we backed out of the system menu where the network settings were and here we have Zone which is two so we can hit the two button or hit enter when we go down to two on the joystick so here there's some important things to understand we have the ID so the ID is the number that you're going to enter into Zone control to control whatever Zone you want to control in this case we're just going to use the ID of 0 because it is the default ID the asteriskness to it I believe just means that it is the default ID we can go down to name again I'm just using the joystick up and down to get through the menus here the name you can name it whatever you like in this case we're going to leave it blank you could for example type in PTZ by using the shift key to get through the different the different modes here the different keyboard modes so if you can see as I'm pressing the ship button it's going through the different modes here and I can name it whatever I'd like for the sake of Simplicity like I said I'm just going to leave it alone or just name it PTZ for the sake of the video so I named the PTZ PTZ or this Zone PTZ then the type is very important as well by default out of the box it should be on NVR and net for the first zones ID 0 and this is very important so this would be if you had an NVR with several ptzs however in this example we are just connecting a single PTZ so we're going to change the type from NVR to SD or speed Dome another term for PTZ and then link is another important thing you're going to want to change it from com485 to net essentially all this means is that you're looking over the network rather than using an rs45 connection now I'm going to go down it's very important to note there are several menu Windows here so this would be menu window one and this is menu window two where we actually need to set the IP address for whatever Zone we're looking for in this case again it is a PTZ camera and we have it set to 109. so I just need to enter in 109 and this would be the IP address for whatever your PTZ is set to port number again three quadruple seven you're going to want to leave that alone and then step you can leave it as default as eight then rule you can leave it as the default dh-2 username is going to be admin or whatever username you have set on your camera and then the password again is going to be whatever username you have set on your PTZ I'm just going to go ahead and enter in our default password here from avalonix again I'm using the shift key to shift in between the different keyboard modes it's going to be one zero lowercase i capital L I'm going to go back to lowercase and it's going to be t X and it's almost like a touch tone phone where you actually have to press on each key it's called T9 you have to press on each key to get it between different letters so one important thing is when you go from X to Y to get to the next letter space you have to press the joystick to the right to go over to the next character yep and then we're gonna hit the enter key and note this is the bottom of the menu very important so again there's like three different menus here make sure that you go through and configure each menu and you understand which each of these settings do so again to recap we named the PTZ we change the type we change the link we went ahead and set the IP address again this is the IP address for the camera you want to control port number we left alone step we also also left alone rule we left alone a dh-2 username just so happened to be admin and then we entered in the password for the camera so I'm going to hit enter to save all of those settings so successful now in order to actually control the PTZ now we have our system set up so the keyboard can communicate over the network we've added it under the Zone settings so it's now a Zone and it's Zone zero so in order to access Zone zero I need to hit the escape button it's going to go back to the main menu and we go into Zone control by using the joystick up and then hitting the enter key id0 again the default ID if you had another ID you would type in that number for that ID that you configured mine is id0 hit enter as it says device SD or speed Dome and connecting it was successfully able to connect to our camera so now if I use the keyboard the camera will move so pan to the right pan to the left if I twist it it's going to zoom you might hear that one second you can actually see the lens coming out keep doing that the lenses are right over there okay and then you can peel up or tilt up and down and then last but not least if you want to control any of the wipers if your camera has a wiper or anything like that you'll want to use the aux button or function button actually the function button or FN so this joystick is made to work with this PTC or our PTZ so that's why the function button actually executes that function there are other pdc's that you may try to use with our controller there's no guarantee they'll work or this controller will work with your NVR while our controller does work with our NVR and our cameras compatibility is always a concern when you're using third-party equipment and the lights let me let's finish this video by just explaining to you the lights that are on this controller here a lot of people look at the lights and get fixated on there this is just power once you plug in the power supply it's a 12 volt you'll get that this is telling you that actually transmitting over the network it's actually basically the blinking lights on the switch that's what these are and the net light just tells you it's connected to the network completely ignore all these if you were using a USB we have a different video on how to use our controllers and using smart PSS with a Windows computer this would turn on then this controller definitely is a very high-end controller it has not only your RJ45 Jack for network connectivity but it also has these com ports and a USB port to connect to your computer and even then rs-232 to plug into a directly into a old-fashioned DVR as well hopefully you found this video useful thanks for watching please don't forget to like the video and subscribe as well if you're watching on YouTube don't forget to like comment and subscribe

5. PTZ View – PTZ Controller
hi i'm eric pratt from us broadcast distribution today we're going to be talking about ptz cam's ptz view it is a control surface for controlling ptz cameras that has a built-in display screen to allow you to control those cameras while you're using them so this is kind of a nice halfway medium product for their lineup if you look at the ptz touch for example that is a four screen decoder but it is only touch screen this has physical controls physical joystick physical buttons presets etc and it has a nice decoder on there which makes it really easy you don't need a dedicated screen for your ptzs in order to see what you're doing it also makes it really nice and easy to configure your cameras which we'll get into in just a moment so this is the unit here uh it's got the physical buttons so we talked about joystick knobs and most importantly the screen there which you're seeing is a little bit recursive at the moment because the camera we're controlling is that one up there looking down at it so we can zoom in on our control surface and if we want to add a new one let me take you on a quick tour of that we just hit search we click search here and that will go out on the network and it will find available cameras that are on the network and it will put them in a list that will let us select and we've already got one of them added so we're going to add our ptz cam unit here and just click add that's our login for it and successfully added go back to our device list and now we have added camera number three here and if we want to go to it i'm just gonna go camera three enter and we're there that was pretty quick so i can zoom in on myself and do any other kind of changes and if i want to go back to camera number one i can just flip back to it so it lets me toggle back before the back and forth between the different cameras that i have uh it's also got buttons for zoom focus iris turning off and on autofocus and auto iris preset set and recall pan tilt speed zoom speed basically everything that you you'd want and this can of course is powered by poe most of the cameras we have these days are powered by poe so why not have your controllers powered by poe the unit does take regular 12 volt but this one i have powered by poe because that's how i have all of the units because it just makes life a lot easier than having wall warts and an extra set of cables poe is great so that's the ptz view it's a low cost way of controlling your ptz cam ptz cameras it does of course work with a broad variety of visca over ip cameras but the main bundle that we're doing here is with these gorgeous ndi srt sdi cameras that pvc cam has been selling as a bundle so if you need to control your cameras this is an easy way of doing it and if you have any other further questions just give us a call or send us an email look forward to hearing from you thanks
6. PTZ Touch – Touchscreen PTZ Controller
hi i'm eric pratt from us broadcast and today we're going to be talking about a fabulous new product from ptz cam it's called the ptz touch and as its name might imply it is a touch screen ptz controller this is the unit here it has a joystick a nice big touch screen on it and buttons for presets but what is most unique about this is that the touchscreen is also actually a decoder for the cameras so the feed from the cameras is actually being shown on this display here and i know that's kind of hard to believe so i'm actually going to show you let's take a look at it so here's the unit here as i mentioned it's got a joystick and it's got a focus wheel and buttons for presets and this nice big ptz display control touch screen and as we can see it's actually decoding the feed from our ptz camera up there so not only is it a controller it is also a display so let me show you how easy it is to add a new camera we can go to quickly add there's a manually add but why manually add one you can quickly add and it's going to go out and search the network to try to find ptz cameras that it can talk to and we're going to select the camera that we want to add tell it what the password is to log into it and then as you can see we've added it and let's go back to our video display and i'm going to add that as another input from our list of local cameras and just like that we have a ptz camera that we've added and if we want to control it i select it i can select which camera we're controlling by clicking the little by clicking the image touching the image and if i want to make an adjustment to the position of it i can just hand to the right and zoom in a little bit and tilt up somewhat so it's also telling me what's going on down there so that is a quick overview of how to add a camera and make adjustments to it and of course you know all the other things that we would expect like adding presets are also uh available in there so it's really easy to quickly add um and see ptz cameras that are on our network to this touch screen ptz touch so there you have it i hope you're as impressed as i was it's a perfect product for certain applications where you need to be able to see the ptz cameras that you're adjusting and have quick and easy access to them it's an ideal interface and i can't believe somebody didn't think of it sooner so i think if you're interested in it please don't hesitate to reach out to us at us broadcast i'm eric us usbroadcast.com and you can visit us on our social media facebook and of course you're already watching us on youtube so let's get together and talk about ptz cameras and controllers thanks for watching
