Freefly Systems
Freefly Systems 🇺🇸
Company Overview
Freefly Systems is revered in Hollywood and the high-end commercial film industry. They literally revolutionized camera movement by inventing the Mōvi, the world’s first 3-axis digital camera stabilizer. Today, they manufacture some of the most powerful, agile, and technically advanced heavy-lift drones in the world, designed to carry massive RED and ARRI cinema cameras flawlessly through the sky.
Core Technologies
Digital 3-Axis Stabilization
Freefly invented the modern digital gimbal (Mōvi). Using advanced IMUs and direct-drive brushless motors, they made it possible to sprint with a 30lb cinema camera while maintaining glass-smooth footage.
Active Vibration Isolation
The ALTA drone series utilizes proprietary vibration isolation systems (the ‘Toad in the Hole’ quick release) that completely decouple the camera payload from the high-frequency vibrations of the drone’s massive motors.
Top-Mount Camera Capability
A revolutionary design allowing cinematographers to mount their heavy camera packages on *top* of the ALTA drone, enabling unprecedented upward-looking tracking shots (like looking up at a bridge while flying under it).
Featured Solutions
ALTA X
A massive, folding quadcopter designed for heavy cinema payloads (up to 35 lbs). Despite its size, its proprietary ActiveBlade propellers make it incredibly agile and smooth.
Astro
Freefly’s foray into industrial and mapping drones. It features a compact folding design, a 60-megapixel Sony camera payload, and RTK GPS for absolute centimeter precision mapping.
