1. TMP 75 Teleprompter Review
In this video I'm gonna be reviewing this new teleprompter from Glide Gear - it's the TMP 75. They were kind enough to send this over to me to check it out. It is replacing one that I had already reviewed and I'll give you a little bit of comparison to the last one in the line and what's different about this one. Let's dig in. I'm guessing you already know how teleprompters work but if you don't, I've got lots of videos about teleprompters just click up there to see that playlist, but the gist of it is you've got a mirror that will display your script typically and behind that mirror is going to be your camera. You're looking in this way, you see your script, the camera doesn't see your script. It's a two-way mirror. They're great, and they're actually great for two things: not only for recording your script, being able to read your script while looking at the camera, but also something that I use it for is being able to look someone in the eye on a video conference and have it look like you're looking them in the eye. I've got a video that talks more about this, about what the problem is there, about how things don't work well on a typical webcam call. I work with coaches, so if you're a coach, you want to be able to look your client directly in the eye, have them feel like you're looking at them while you're seeing exactly how they're reacting to what you're saying. That's what's really important. Today I'm going to cover kind of both of these a little bit separately. The TMP 75 is set up to work with both a webcam or a bigger camera like a DSLR or a video camera and I'll show you both of these, but the gist is because it's small, you're gonna be using an iPhone, not an iPad and you'll just push that under there and then tighten it up with this here. Then you should be able to see the script on the screen and the camera would be directly behind. The one thing I noticed when using this with a webcam, depending on how high the webcam sits is this little clamp here that holds your iPhone in place. It's just a little bit too tall. However, it's great, it's got a little screw on the bottom to hold it in place and some foam rubber in there. One other thing - I'm not sure if this is just mine, but let me just show you this. If you've got like a really big iPhone, maybe an iPhone XS Max or something like that, you can see here that this doesn't quite tighten down enough, so it's a bit loose on the end. I guess I could just throw a washer behind that, but Glider, if you're watching, maybe something to take a look at. This is the earlier version that this is replacing, and I did a video about this, actually compared it to a Bodelin and this was about two hundred dollars and there was a more expensive version on the market. You can once again check out that video up here. This was really set up to be able to clamp on to the top of your monitor and have your webcam looking through and then bouncing from this mirror, bouncing up what was visible on your screen. If you were using something like Skype or Zoom you could just put a small window there on your screen. It would bounce it up and so you'd be looking directly into the other person's eyes while the camera is behind and that was a great great system. And I'm going to tell you how to do that with this new one. It's a little more complicated, but in the long run it might be a little bit more convenient. Let's take a look at adding this to a desktop computer or a laptop, using it with a webcam first. So you'll see on the back there are these little brackets and they move up and down and you can kind of set them if your camera is high or if it's low. The one thing I noticed with this is it doesn't go high enough if you're using an external webcam like a c920 which is my favorite if that's clamped on to the top of your monitor. Let me show you that here. You can see this one, if we were to clamp this over the top - I know this is kind of hard to see, I'll turn my monitor here maybe a little bit, you can see the webcam is actually too high. Now it's not in the center of the teleprompter. It'd be great if this was set up - the old version you could adjust it much more up and down and so that helped with external webcams. But right now this is really set up, at least in this system, to only work with an internal webcam, Don't worry, I'll tell you about external webcams and the better more efficient setup before the end of this video. Let's talk about using it with your internal webcam which it definitely works for. So they've got these pieces of black fabric, and I like how they've done this compared to the last version. They've got a piece of black fabric with a hole in the middle, the hole is where your webcam looks through. Everything is velcro here so you can you can take off this fabric and you can also put a piece of fabric on that goes behind the webcam, so that goes and mounts on top of that once again with velcro. It's not perfect, but it does work at keeping the light from shining through the backside of this. With a teleprompter, it has to be completely pitch black behind the glass, otherwise it doesn't work as a mirror. So let me go ahead and set this up with my internal webcam on my iMac. I'm just gonna hook this over the top, and the first thing is - the reality with this is that I've got an older iMac and when you put anything on here it just automatically tilts forward. So typically I've ended up putting stuff behind to try to get it to be the right height so it's not cutting off the top of my head, because right now it's cutting off the top of my head. But you'll put that directly over the camera and then you'll put - your teleprompter software will be running on your iPhone. and you can tuck that in here, tighten it down, get it exactly where it needs to be you can move this up and down depending on how far the top of your computer, your screen is, from your webcam, if it's really close, really far, you've got about maybe an inch and a half of space to move around there and you can tighten that down. You'll see here that you need to get it high enough so you don't, in the webcam see the corners of the teleprompter. When I've got it up high as possible and I'm using the webcam on my iMac you can see here that actually the webcam is a little too wide for this device, so it's starting to see the edges here, so if you're gonna be editing and you can zoom in and cut out those corners that's great. But if you're using it on a video conference where it's live, the person on the other side might see these little corners in your video. This is the setup that you would use if you're trying to use this as a teleprompter. You're using your phone as the teleprompting device. I'm reading the script coming off the phone but if you wanted to use this for video conferencing where you see the other person's face show up in front of the camera, it's a little more complicated. Before, you just had a mirror here and it would bounce up from this screen. Now you have to use your iPhone for that. And if you're using a Mac, there is software that helps with this, it's called Duet. I'll go into that a little bit more, but essentially you're plugging your iPhone into your computer with a USB cable, and then you're mirroring your screen and then moving it around so that you can see up there. This works pretty well, but I'm gonna - once again - I'm hinting at what I'm gonna show you in the end, which is the best solution. One last improvement that they've made here is there's a little piece of foam rubber on the back here so it's no longer metal resting on your screen like the last version. So that's using a webcam that's built into your computer, but what this also does is this allows you to use a DSLR or a video camera or an external webcam in a separate way, so I want to show you about that now because that's really kind of a nice powerful thing here. If you want a teleprompter that just sits on the front of your DSLR, this is a great solution. So this is part of the kit that you get from Glide Gear, they're called 15-mm rails, and you can just screw these into the back and then you'll be able to mount a camera, DSLR, or a webcam, or something on this. This just has a quarter twenty screw, which is the standard screw that goes into the bottom of a camera. Because these are 15-mm rails, if you've got like a camera rig or something like that that's on 15-mm rails, you could attach this directly to the front of your rig. Not many coaches just have something like that. The other thing that I really like here, and this is just because of my own clumsiness, is the way that Glide Gear has added these little plastic rubber stoppers on the end. One time when I was filming, I had my camera sitting on a tripod and I didn't have the tripod head completely locked down and so camera's up here, this piece slides back and forth - you can lock it down - and I didn't have that locked down either, but the weight of the camera tilted the tripod back and then this just went flying off the end. Thank you Glide Gear for putting these on, I think I'll be doing that to my other teleprompter too. So you can attach a DSLR back here. I'm actually using mine right now to film, and then move it back and forth depending on the length of your lens, and then what you'll do is you'll put that other piece of fabric over the top of the DSLR or over the lens really of a DSLR, and that'll block out all the light. But really what I want to go more in depth into is using this with an external web camera, because being able to read the text on-screen, that's a great use of a teleprompter. But being able to see another person and being able to talk to them live, looking them in the eye, is something that I'm really excited about. And that's something that you can do with this. Let me show you how to do that now. I'm gonna take my external webcam and mount it. You can see this webcam is c920 or c922, it has the quarter-twenty screw in the bottom so let me take that and mount it here and then I'm gonna move it forward here as far as it'll go and adjust this up here so that it's in the center. There we go, and now what I've done is I've put a miniature tripod on my desk. Let me connect this. Of course this has a quarter-twenty screw in the bottom of it because this is where it attaches to a tripod and this could be a full-sized tripod or just this little mini one on my desktop here. Now I can use this exact same setup with my computer. I can just switch over to my external webcam and then you can see the images coming from there. Once again we've got to do a little adjusting here. It is a little hard to adjust this with an external webcam; it's a little bit of a challenge here to not catch the corners and also not catch the front end of this where it's clamping on the iPhone, but you can take that piece off if you need to. Now I've got my script up here and I could just pop in to zoom or Skype or some QuickTime to record a video of me talking and speaking my script, but the real exciting part is on a Mac. I'm not sure how to do this on a PC, sorry, so hopefully someone can put in the comments below a similar software that can be used and if they do I'll put that in the description of this video.I'm going to take a lightning cable and plug it into my phone and pull this out of here for this and then get out of the the prompt smart app - that's my favorite app there - and I'm going to open up something called Duet. And then it's going to launch once I've connected to my PC. I've got the duet software running both on my iPhone and on my computer, you can see some flashing going on here, and hold it sideways, now you can see that there is a - this is showing on the screen, this is actually showing as a second monitor so you can see this is actually, if there were two monitors, it'd be the one sitting over here, so this is a great option. I'm gonna take this Zoom window and just drag it on to the second screen and you can see it popping in there and you can see how now I have the person that I'm talking to ideally right now. I'm the only person on this zoom call, so it's only me. But I see that person on my iPhone, then we put it inside here, and now what I'm seeing is myself or whoever's on the other side of the zoom call directly in front of the lens of the webcam and that's the key thing here. This is something where you don't have to have this clunky system setup on the front of your computer and then you have to take it off and take it back. You could just use an old iPhone, set it up here, set it on a tripod with this device, and every time you need to get on a call just switch over to that webcam. Especially if you're a coach and you're doing a lot of coaching calls and you're doing a lot of them by zoom or Skype or some other videoconferencing software, this is a great opportunity for you to just be able to switch over and have kind of like a second monitor set up where you're speaking directly to the person on the other side of the call. That's a pretty cool system that I figured out how to set up with this, but then I realized, if I'm going to have my webcam and a separate monitor set up, wouldn't I rather just use an iPad? Something bigger so the person's face is bigger on the screen. And what I realized is the good-old Caddie Buddy was still my favorite teleprompter. You can do the same thing. You can see here that this is my face or the other person's face showing up on an iPad size. This doesn't have the problem with seeing the corners because the screen is so much bigger, so if you aren't going to set it up that way I would still recommend the Caddie Buddy with this Duet type setup for video conferencing. And one last thing about the Glide Gear is they do give you a case to store it in. That's something that I really like about Glide Gear is everything they sell I think comes with a case, so you don't have to worry about trying to create some space to store it or some box to store it in. If you're already subscribed to my channel you know how much I like to go over teleprompters and review them and try to find the right piece of gear for you, and I want to thank once again Glide Gear for providing this to me for free. You can support my channel by purchasing it over on Amazon if this is the right piece of gear for you. I'll also list some other gear down there that I think might be a good option that I've mentioned in this video, but the next thing that you should do if you're not quite ready to purchase is head over here to look at some of my other videos on teleprompters. I'll see you in the next video.
2. Best Teleprompter for Professional Video? (GVM Teleprompter Review)
- Hands down one of the best and most easiest ways to save time when creating videos, both in the filming portion, as well as in the editing portion is using a teleprompter because you're gonna nail down your shot sooner because you have the words that you need to deliver. And then in editing, you have less footage to actually edit down. And so that's why in this video, I'll be breaking down this awesome teleprompter from GVM. It is a professional teleprompter, but we're also gonna be breaking down the other teleprompters that they offer, so let's get into it. - [Narrator] You gotta just press record. Hey, what's up, it's Omar El-Takrori with Think Media. And if you didn't know what Think Media is, essentially, we are a huge education company that teaches how to grow on YouTube. And so we have various different content creators, whether it's myself, we have Sean Cannell, Heather Torres, Nolan Molt, and more, but we filmed so many different kinds of things, whether it's shooting ads for our different programs that we offer, shooting YouTube videos for this channel, as well as shooting podcasts and so much more. And we've implemented using a teleprompter a couple years back and has completely revolutionized the content creation process, and has allowed us to move so much faster and get more done. And I'm super pumped to be talking about this specific teleprompter in this video. And this is the GVM TQ-LD Pro teleprompter, which comes in at around $800 at the time of shooting this video. And if you think that's crazy, let me get through what you get in this package. And then I'll break down the other ones they offer based off of where you're at in your budget. So with this teleprompter, you get a super high-quality flight case. And this case is like a legit luggage that if you've been wanting to use it as a luggage, but, you know, it does hold this teleprompter altogether. However, this is more or less that kind of teleprompter you want to live in a set because of how heavy it is when it's all things are put together. However, it is super nice that they ship out this teleprompter with this case. And then the various things that come together to make this teleprompter happen have to start with number one, the mirror that it comes with and this is a super high definition mirror that is actually framed in a nice aluminum/metal kind of framing, which has some magnet to it, which we'll talk about the next thing. However, this mirror is awesome and super clear and is anti-glare, and it's not gonna give you any issues when it comes to light coming in this, that, or the other. And so that's really nice that they include that. And then the next thing, this teleprompter has is a super high-quality case surrounding that actually magnetizes onto the mirror itself, really keeping it in place. And then I love how they have the fabric with the cinch to go just around the lens of your camera, which other teleprompters on the market oftentimes have this big droopy thing that you gotta put over the entire camera. And sometimes it falls into the lens in the shot and stuff like that. All that to say, the cover is super nice and well thought through. The next thing that this kit includes is an Android tablet. Yes, they include a complete tablet into this kit and it's about 13 or 12 or 13 inches or so, but it is a pretty hefty and weighty Android tablet. And it does need to be powered on continuously. So that's something to keep in mind. And then you're gonna get a camera stand where you can screw on your camera and there's the ability to slide it back and forth. And so there's a lot of flexibility with this teleprompter altogether, but all these things that I mentioned rest on the alloy base, which has a piping and locking mechanism, that'll keep everything super secure. And then they also throw in a Bluetooth remote so that you can start and stop your teleprompter as you're using it. But all that to say, you get everything you need to just use this as a teleprompter all by itself. Now, some things we do add, and some things you do wanna know that with this teleprompter is you are gonna need a more hefty video head tripod. This set up, this teleprompter setup up top is pretty heavy. And if you have a tripod for a small camera, it's not really gonna hold up too well. So we'll make sure we post links to that. And then the another addition that we've added to it is the quick release system that we love by Manfrotto. And so whether the quick release system from the tripod itself, or also the quick release system for the camera that goes on the camera plate, and so that we can just pop on and off the camera as well. Now it is nice that this Android teleprompter comes with the GVM teleprompter app preloaded onto it. However, this isn't a high-quality or future forward tablet. This is a very basic tablet that'll just get the job done to be used as a teleprompter. Although it is an Android tablet, it doesn't have your Google Play store. And if you wanna download extra apps onto this thing, you have to do a workaround by loading in the apps that you wanna download using a flash drive or plugging this tablet into a computer itself. And so that's just something to note and that this tablet does not have an HDMI in. So you can't use it with an external computer and then load up your display here. So there's just some things to keep in mind. It does have a micro USB, a regular USB and an SD card slot. And so those are some things that this tablet has. It's kind of like, it seems like this tablet came out in like 2010. That's what it seems like or maybe even like 2006, but it does do the job when you're using it as a teleprompter. Now, this definitely is GVM's most high-end teleprompter. And I would say, not everybody needs this teleprompter. I'm actually a fan of using your iPad. If you own an iPad as a teleprompter, or if you split the cost by buying the other ones that GVM offers, which just some notable mentions about the ones that they do offer, which number one is the TQ-S, which is an $80 teleprompter that actually screws onto the front of your camera lens. And then you can use your smartphone as your teleprompter. And so that's one of the most inexpensive ways that you can implement a teleprompter workflow in your video creation. And then the other two teleprompters that they have worked with a tablet you already own, whether it's an iPad or an Android tablet. And the first one is the GVM TQ-M, which is a $200 teleprompter, which has kind of that flimsy cover that goes over your camera. But I think the one out of the bunch that truly is my favorite is the TQ-L, which is half the price of this one coming in at around $420. And because I already own an iPad, this is the one I would go with, because kind of has the build quality that this one has. However, it is meant to be used with a tablet you already own. Now it is super cool that GVM offers different teleprompters based off of different budgets. However, I'd love to know from you down in the comments below which teleprompter resonates most with you based off of your budget and your content creation needs. And what do you think about this super professional one? I mean, this is pretty legit based off of like all the things you get, but all that to say here at Think Media, we definitely prepare our videos by writing them out. And sometimes it is verbatim and sometimes it's outlines. Personally for me, I write my intro out verbatim, and then I read out my intro because I think the intro of a video is so, so important. And then I make sure that there's these no miss things, especially if we're working with brands and things like that. But if you need help with your script writing, we actually have a video and you can check that out by clicking or tapping the screen. Thank you so much for watching this one. And I can't wait to see you in a future video piece. (upbeat music)
3. Tips For Using A Teleprompter | Phil Pallen
in this video i'm sharing some essential tips for anyone who wants to use a teleprompter to deliver information like in a youtube video or a presentation i'm using one right now but if i didn't tell you that you probably wouldn't have known for the first time ever i'm sharing my secrets stay with me [Music] i'm phil palin a brand strategist welcome to my channel where i share practical advice to build your brand today i'm in madrid spain and i'm actually really excited for this video this is something i get asked often about so i felt like it was finally time for me to make a video about it using a teleprompter tips apps and strategies to do it well it would take me so long to make a youtube video if i did not use a teleprompter it's not that i'm not confident in sharing my ideas without a script i can do it and i've tried it in previous videos however for me taking the time to actually write a script beforehand and deliver it using an ipad and a teleprompter app this ensures i don't forget anything that i want to say i can normally record a video in a single take and i can do it without any major disruptions which seriously cuts down on filming and editing time i swear by using a prompter and this is something i've had years of practice and training for in fact my career began a decade ago working in la and my niche was tv hosts and personalities so i worked alongside hosts that needed to learn this skill nowadays you don't need to be a tv host to benefit from this skill either as a business owner you're creating content like i'm doing right now and you have to be able to do it efficiently i think a prompter can help with that so let's jump right in because there's a lot that i want to cover on this topic i'm sharing five tips in total and i promise this video is going to be interactive i want it to feel like you and i are in a room together training so let's get started teleprompter tip number one you need practice i realize that is such a boring tip to start with but i promise it's not going to be boring we're going to practice together you're watching this video on youtube you can put those full screen in a moment i'm going to put the script on the screen and i want you to read it out loud it's going to look exactly like it would if it was in a prompter it will talk through it right after so get ready maybe stand to do this this is an actual script from a past video that i have made it's a sample script and it's a simple script so i think that you'll have no challenges reading it here we go to get the most from this read it out loud it's only about 30 seconds i'm gonna count you down now three two one okay well done if you actually listened to me and you did what i told you to do you can also scrub back in this video if you want to practice again but i'd like to go through the script one more time and point out some stuff so first thing i write the video title in my actual script and i say it out loud that way the video editor knows what i'm editing i write my script in all caps which i find easier to read i also add punctuation even if it's not grammatically correct because no one cares it's just me reading it sometimes exclamation marks i use to emphasize something or brackets if it's more of an aside or a side thought i use square brackets when there are edited notes that i need to remember when an animation appears if there's something to point to square brackets to me mean don't say it out loud but still notice and you'll come up with little systems and methods yourself the more you practice so tip number one the only way to get good at this and to not sound like you're reading is to practice practice practice practice let's move on teleprompter tip number two script one idea per sentence let me explain i actually studied broadcast journalism in my undergraduate degree and the most valuable takeaway from those studies was this when you're writing for broadcast limit yourself to one idea per sentence say one idea and then put a period a sentence like this should only have one idea the next idea can come in the next sentence instead of writing a lot of commas it can get confusing and it can get very difficult to read quickly this is very different from essay writing it might seem overly simplistic on paper but i promise when you deliver the information it's so much easier for you to communicate it without stumbling and for your audience to understand a few other ideas when you're writing your script write the script yourself ideally it is so much easier to read a script written in your voice something you're already familiar with using words that you would use in normal conversation if someone else is writing it maybe someone who works with you or is in charge of the content i'm not sure but it happens and in these instances i recommend reading through it first getting really comfortable with it before you get to this point and if needed rewrite it using words that you would normally use remove words that you would not normally use because you are guaranteed to trip up on them when reading out loud that's another thing read it out loud that's going to help train your brain to recognize the script and the words before reading it from the prompter and that is key to sounding natural so tip number two is one idea per sentence that keeps it conversational ideally you've written a script so it sounds like you if you haven't read through rewrite practice get familiar with it before you deliver it next tip teleprompter tip number three look past the prompter look into the lens of the camera this might be the most important tip i give you and i'll explain it this is all part of not giving the script or the teleprompter more importance than it deserves it is a fancy piece of gear but it's not that important it exists to remind you what to say and what you say and how you say it that's the star of the show you look past the prompter the prompter really doesn't matter don't even read from it look right into the camera lens you can usually see the camera lens through it and your prompter is reflected right in front of it if you're using an apparatus for this or you might have it slightly out of frame look into the camera as much as possible let the words be visible to remind you what to say but looking into the camera makes it more natural this will also help you prevent darting your eyes back and forth now i'm gonna read that last sentence or two again and show you how it's different when it's read let the words be visible to remind you what to say but looking into the camera makes it more natural this will help you prevent darting your eyes back and forth now hopefully there you saw the difference i was actually reading it so tip number three look past the prompter it's not more important than you it is not even important at all it is just an aid teleprompter tip number four find your settings this is something that practice is going to teach you like giving a speech from a stage everyone's preferences are slightly different some speakers prefer a podium others prefer without some speakers prefer cue cards while others might memorize their speech or they might ad-lib and just say it how it comes to them in the moment with a teleprompter there are a few things that you can adjust and i'll show you what now you can have bigger text font size even you can choose what font you'd like to read from i typically leave mine as the default which is arial or helvetica on most apps you can select background color and leave that as black you can also define margins which determine the width of the text column mine is normally set at around 20 percent be careful not to have too wide of a margin because you'll look like you're reading also not too narrow because it will mean your eyes need to scan vertically too much and that could also look like you're reading as well you can set a cue indicator which is a small triangle that helps you keep your eyes centered and there are other settings too which will depend on your configuration the most important setting is speed this is really something you should experiment with i set mine on this particular app around 35 which is quite quick but i read quickly and i also have no problem pausing the prompter from time to time to catch up which i do using a remote or a keyboard i'd rather have it slightly faster than too slow you also may have spotted a setting there called mirroring this is something i do use because i use an actual teleprompter device that houses my ipad and then it flips the image from the screen onto the pane of glass that the camera sits behind so it has to be mirrored in order for me to read it this is how it looks from my perspective so there's lots to play with there if you're just getting started you could use an iphone or an ipad app and have the screen nearby the camera if you're really wanting a proper setup i recommend investing in a teleprompter device designed for an ipad screen it's the best way to read directly into the camera without glancing off screen for a true non-reading effect and then most apps will enable you to also have a remote control which could be a basic remote control for your computer it could be a mouse it could be a headphone volume control from a pair of headphones i've used that before or it could be a keyboard which is what i use i just let it sit on my lap and i like this option because pressing the keys down is very very quiet and it doesn't get picked up from the microphone so you're gonna find your settings and your setup that's tip number four tip number five my final tip today become a pro by building confidence the only way you'll build confidence is by practicing not only filming yourself but also watching it back and critiquing yourself which i know can be awful and uncomfortable but it's really really important remember the script does not matter in most cases only you know the script so don't be afraid to go off script in the moment in fact i encourage it because it keeps it more conversational the more you practice the more you'll find confidence going off script and try different settings and setups until you land on something perfect i also recommend trying different teleprompter apps as they all kind of vary with settings and price some are free some are premium i'll put my best teleprompter app recommendation in the description below just in case it ever changes so there you go five tips for using a teleprompter i've linked to the tools and the devices in the description below right down there for you to check out everything i use to pull off this setup so that you can use it yourself use it like a little checklist if you've got any lingering questions comment below let's keep the conversation going on down there i respond to those personally and if you enjoyed this video give it a like that helps 4. How To Use Teleprompters Like A Pro In Just 12 Minutes
hey what's up creators anthony here and in this video we are going to talk about teleprompters so real quick you probably already know this but why do we use teleprompters well it allows us to write out our entire script word for word and then very easily deliver that script to the camera to your audience without ever rambling without adding a ton of fluff and really just delivering that content as fast as possible so the teleprompter that we use and recommend in this program is the glidegear tmp100 it is super high quality it is about 200 which is kind of expensive but if you're creating a lot of content for youtube courses whatever it may be you want something that you can rely on that's built really well and i cannot recommend this higher than i already do i've really come to love it over the past few years now when you first get it it will be flat like this we'll talk about that in just a second but first we have to scooch back and get this thing mounted onto our tripod so right now i know it is a little bit out of frame but we are using the kaier bv30l tripod another amazing tripod super budget friendly as far as high quality and very reliable tripods go it is in our kit.co you can find that if you're curious but how do we get this thing on well all tripods come with essentially their own type of mounting plate this is a relatively universal mounting plate it works with this tripod it works with my manfrotto tripod all you need is that screw in the middle that you're going to essentially just put onto the bottom of the teleprompter this is an example of another tripod this is the peak design carbon fiber travel tripod i love this it's super small and i trusted a bunch but it has a different mount on it which i will show you really quick you can see it looks different but it has that screw on the top which allows me to screw it into the teleprompter nonetheless but for the sake of this training we are going to use this plate that works with this tripod you just want to make sure it's lined up properly and screw it into the proper screw thread there are a ton on the bottom you can really choose any so long as they fit i have a little tool that i use to make sure that it's perfectly tight nice and secure and then from there you can just slide it right onto your tripod tighten it so it's locked into place and now we are good so from there you're gonna see that there are these two locking pins on the front and the back and when you undo those you're able to slide the reflective glass forward and then there are going to be these other screws that you have to quickly line up and screw in like i am right now there's one in the front one in the back when you do this now this sliding glass piece is kind of locked in place and it's not going to move from there if i put this fabric down you'll see that we have a mounting plate for our camera or essentially it's not really a mounting plate it's just a screw that we can put our camera on so i'm going to be using the canon eos r this is the camera that i created the 14 day filmmaker program using it already has the screw thread on the bottom so we don't actually need a plate for this you just align that hole with the actual screw and you will be good to tighten it can be kind of a pain sometimes but there we go i actually haven't tightened it all the way yet because i want to take this fabric put it under the camera while it's still just a little loose and now we can actually push the camera forward the reason we do this is because we want the camera as close to the front of the teleprompter as possible this is going to make sure that the teleprompter itself doesn't actually get in your shot if you have your camera all the way back here and you're using a wide angle lens it's actually going to capture the corners of the teleprompter which doesn't look good so you want to make sure you slide that camera up about as far as it can go and then from there i typically just roll up this fabric a little bit so i can actually still hit the record buttons on my camera and the last thing you want to check is look at the actual camera from the front make sure that that fabric hasn't kind of folded up underneath the lens which gets in the front pain in the butt when you record a whole video and the fabric is in the way but we should be good now and we have the camera completely set up couple notes we need to make about cameras though i'm actually going to grab the 1dx mark ii and this 24 to 70 lens because first up what you're probably going to notice is larger cameras can sometimes fit on this differently than the shorter cameras like the eos r would now this teleprompter still works with the 1dx mark ii but you have to be careful it's not going to work with all lenses because it has this kind of taller section at the bottom if you're using a large camcorder or another just really big camera you want to make sure that it's actually going to fit on this teleprompter anything that's about the same size as the eos r is going to work perfectly the other note i want to make is with the long lenses so this is the 24 to 70 lens from canon and when you zoom it out all the way it extends in length so when you have that it's not an issue but you just want to keep in mind it can hit that glass and it's going to cause your camera to be pushed back a little bit like i said it's not an issue but just something to keep in mind so now that i have my phone the first thing that i'm going to do is go into the google docs app which you can see i have here i'm going to click on the most recent script that i wrote i'm going to select all the text and just hit copy from there i'm going to go over to the prompt smart pro app now this is a 20 app that works on both iphone and android phones it's the best teleprompter app that we've found it tracks voices with us as we read so it's really nice and useful and i'm just going to hit the plus button in the top left hand corner and then hit on new script i'm then going to title this gear paradox and then paste that entire script into the app i'm then going to hit done and if i refresh here you'll see that the gear paradox is up at the top so i'm going to click on that and before we hit play we're actually going to talk about the settings real quick so i don't change many of the settings but really quickly the ones that you want to make sure you have set correctly are scroll text should be set to voice track that way the actual phone's going to read with you or it's going to listen to you and scroll the actual script for you we also want to have mirror vertically turned on from there if you keep going down the only other setting we want to talk about is side margin position so this essentially determines how big are the margins on each side of the text we actually want the margins to be a little bit bigger so that the space that our eyes track back and forth from left to right is smaller and we'll get into that when we actually load the phone on but just know i typically use narrower or narrow west those are the two settings i use if you click on those you can see you have full screen narrow narrower or narrow west kind of a tongue twister but either way covered that and for the most part you can go all the way down you can test these as much as you want but i leave all of these in the default position so i'm going to hit back hit play and this actually loads up the teleprompter interface now i'm going to swing the camera around and show you how i actually line this up so what you're going to want to do when you first load up your teleprompter is you're going to want to put your phone sideways like this i want to make sure that's right you're going to want to do this and we're actually going to unscrew this right here so we can pull out this section and it's not in the way the reason we don't want to do wide is because the distance between the left and right of the text that is super freaking long and the audience is going to be able to see your eyes tracking back and forth from left to right and it's going to make you look like a robot so instead of doing the wide way we actually flip the phone so it goes like this and then we put it in the vertical way which is going to make that distance between left and right super small and you can actually see here the margin size has increased on both sides that's the setting that we were talking about just a moment ago if you had this set to full screen instead of narrower which is what i have the text would take up the entire screen from left to right either way you can test around with these and see what works best but what i like to do from here is just hit play which is going to actually start it and it's now tracking for our voice and now i push it actually behind the teleprompter just a little bit because that's what i found looks best as far as where the actual text lines up and then i push the phone a little off to the left just because i find my eyes naturally over here and in order to counteract that i make sure that the script is just a little bit off to the left now when i actually read the script it's going to scroll with me and you can see here what is up creators anthony here and let's talk about the gear paradox this is one of the biggest time sucks the easiest way to unnecessarily stress yourself out in a very slippery slope so pretty dang cool it reads the script with me it makes my job way easier i don't have to time my voice with anything i just read it as i naturally would and the app is actually going to do most of the work for me so i'll take this out and get back in my seat here and that covers just about everything you need to know about getting started with teleprompters now a couple additional notes here before we end the video you might be asking yourself well what if i want to build my course or shoot the content that i'm shooting with a cell phone is that still going to work so let's take the eos r out here and talk about how we do this with a cell phone because it's absolutely possible take the eos r out you're going to notice that your cell phone doesn't have a thread on the bottom so we can't actually just screw this in but what you can do is go onto amazon and order a 10 tripod to cell phone adapter mount and what that's going to do is actually screw in right here like your camera would and then from there you actually just mount your phone into that adapter and then you can move it around just like you would in the camera and it's going to work the same exact way and it's going to look pretty good because most modern telephones have pretty good cameras the only other thing though is typically we read our scripts from our phone we load the phone into the front but when you're using your phone to record you're not actually going to be able to do that so from there what i recommend you do is first take one of your family members phone if they're in the actual house whether that's your kids your girlfriend boyfriend your husband wife whatever it may be if you don't have anybody else in the house with you you can get a cheap ipad an old ipod touch and that's going to do the job just fine that way you have something dedicated for filming and something dedicated for actually holding the script now the last thing i want to talk about is actually seeing yourself while you're recording so one thing that i love about the eos r and about a lot of modern cameras is they have this flip out lcd screen which would normally allow you to see yourself while you're filming but the issue with the teleprompter is even when you flip out that screen the teleprompter's actually going to get in the way and you're not going to be able to see that flip out screen and see yourself while you're recording it's not a big issue at all i actually created all of the 14-day filmmaker content without ever seeing myself while i was recording all i did was set up my scene make sure my lighting and my composition was all good to go i then sit down exactly like i would plan to during the video and i would just hit record and do a little test drill for 30 seconds where i read through my script i'd then stop go look at the footage while it was on my camera and it always would look good and i knew from there that i'd be able to just sit back down and record with confidence knowing that everything would look good so although external monitors do help the things that you can just put on top of your camera and actually see what your camera is recording while you're recording it you do not need one and if you don't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on it you're totally fine but that does it for this video if you found the content helpful if you don't mind subscribing and leaving a like beneath this video it helps out a ton with the youtube algorithm and on top of that you should absolutely check out our online film program called 14 day filmmaker it is the world's fastest and most affordable online course that teaches you everything you need to know about filmmaking to get started shooting amazing cinematic videos in just 14 days it's hard to believe how fast the program has grown but we have almost 20 000 students enrolled in the training and they absolutely love the content the program contains over 100 videos in total there are practice exercises every day we have massive discounts on professional editing software like adobe premiere pro after effects and if you actually use that discount it pays for the program in a matter of a month because it saves you something like 360 dollars per year we have an awesome facebook group where people can ask questions they can compete in the regular competitions that we hold they can also just share their work and ask for feedback and a lot of people say that facebook group is worth the price of the program by itself so if you are interested and you want to join the world's fastest growing online community of filmmakers the link for that program is in the description beneath this video and just so you know the whole program literally everything with the discounts the free downloads the community all that stuff it costs less than taking your grandma out to dinner just one time so if you're interested link in the description again thanks for watching and i'll see you in the next one [Music] you
5. TELEPROMPTER: TIPS ON HOW TO USE ONE
Hi, this is Jay P. Morgan. Today on The Slanted Lens we're gonna take a look at teleprompters. Why you need one and how to use them. MUSIC Today on The Slnted Lens we're gonna take a look at teleprompters. And for one main reason. In the last three months I've been using them constantly. Long shoots with tons of dialogue on teleprompters. And some times it can be arduous and very difficult if you don't know a few things. So here are some things I've learned. First off, the teleprompter we got, the PT1200 from ikan, the reason I got it is because it is- it collapses, it goes into an SKB case. I threw it on an airplane, we flew to Colombia and it worked fabulously. Put it back on the airplane, flew it back. So it's just portable, it sets up really fast. I just can't stand teleprompters that don't set up fast. So number one, get a teleprompter that sets up quickly so you can set up your shot and get on with the work you have to do. Number two, clean the thing. All the surfaces. Clean all the surfaces. You've got a surface of the monitor, you've got a surface of the, two surfaces of the glass, and the lens. Clean all those things before you set it, before you get everything all in place, and make sure those surfaces are clean. Just use a little microcloth and clean them up. Make sure you flag the entire teleprompter. 'Cause you've got all these glass surfaces, and a little rim light can get in there and really cause a problem for you. So make sure you flag the entire teleprompter, all those surfaces. Get a flag up there and make sure it's clean. Get the type large enough on the screen. Not just so that the person can read it, but also so that their eyes are not going like this, back and forth, back and forth. As they're scanning. 'Cause people automatically go well that guy's reading off a teleprompter, man. You know. But you want them to look straight into the lens. They type is large enough so that they can just perceive the type as they read it as it goes up. So it's really important to get it the right size. I think it's important to prep the script beforehand. Take out everything that is not going to be what you want your voiceover, or your actor to say, on the teleprompter. So get rid of all the other actors lines. Get rid of everything else so that you can just have their voiceover. It'll go a lot faster. But in doing that, there's always the danger that you'll miss a line. So have a script on hand as a director, as a person behind the camera, and mark off each section as you go through it so you know you've covered each section that you need to do on teleprompter that day. That way if you miss something in the edit, or if somehow something got deleted when you're working on the teleprompter, you're there looking at it going, you know what, we missed this line. Where's this line? We'll pick it up. It's pretty important. When you're doing this for six or eight or ten days, you'd be shocked at the number of things that happen like that. On a teleprompter, the type is very basic. It's just one font, one size, one color. So you use other things to give the actor cues about how to read the dialogue. A comma, they know that there's a break a little bit in the thought there, not an end to the sentence, but it gives them a chance to break and to move forward. We use quotation marks when we want them to know this is something we want emphasized. You know, emphasize. In a van down by the river. So you want to emphasize that. And it's really important to make sure that your script is conversational. Read it back, read it out loud so you can make sure that you understand and what it sounds like. Read it out loud. I like to sit down with the writer and we read the whole script out loud. It really makes it flow better and you know it's going to be much nicer to read when you do that. And give your teleprompter person who's operating and the actor time to get into a rhythm together. Because the teleprompter is moving the entire time. So the person who's running it has got to get into the groove with the actor. The speed the actor's going to like. Be able to pause it when it's time to pause it. Be able to move it on when the actor's ready to move on so that the person running the teleprompter is not going to slow the actor down and make the actor feel unnatural. Just because you're on a teleprompter doesn't mean you can't use your hands. Get those hands up. You know, let the actor become comfrotable gesturing. Make this interesting. Don't get them like this the whole time so they turn into a robot. Get those hands up. ikan had a lot of great teleprompter models, and they will serve you depending on what you want to choose. I chose portability. Which for me, portability and quick set up were the most important things to me. But there are others there that if you're going to leave them set up all the time, and be using them a lot, are bigger and more robust. You may want to go that direction. This is not sponsored by ikan, but I did call them up and say, "ikan, I love this teleprompter, send me one." And they said, "Ok, great. Here's one." So there's some quick tips on how to run a teleprompter. I'm not an expert on teleprompters, although after the last three months I think I have a pretty good idea how to use them and some things to watch out for. So take a look at those tips. Hopefully they'll help you avoid some problems when you use a teleprompter. Keep those cameras rollin' and keep on clickin'.
6. Best iPad Teleprompter & App for YouTube Videos (Glide Gear Teleprompter Review)
- Creating videos especially on your own could be a daunting task, because of having to remember everything you have to say, constant mistakes and retakes, making the editing process also longer than expected. And the way around this is to use a teleprompter. And in this video, I'll be breaking down the best teleprompter for the money. The one that we use here at Think Media, and the magical app that moves to the sound of your voice. So you'll have no issues filming yourself. And be sure to watch until the end of the video where I'll share some tips for being more comfortable and confident on camera, let's go. - [Narrator] You gotta just press record. - Hey what's up, it's Omar, Eltakori with Think Media, helping you build your influence with online video. And on this channel Sometimes we do tech gear reviews. Other times we do tip videos, helping content creators just like this one. So if you're new here consider subscribing. So quick backstory, when I used to work at a church every week we would actually produce videos called church news or our weekend announcement videos. And during that time we used a teleprompter and an iPad for the script. Then we would film the talking head portion kind of just like this. The two issues that rose up was number one, the build of the teleprompter was not only robust due to its design, made it difficult to see what you were filming. And then the other issue was the app on the iPad had to move at a pace, which making stumbling over your words and having to find the right speed was kind of annoying. Recently, we invested in a $200 teleprompter from Amazon and we absolutely love this thing. It's been used for the Think Marketing Show, which is our podcast. I've used it for client work, as well as videos I shoot for Think Media. And it saved us tons of time when filming talking head portions of videos. So let's break everything down and get you going. So the teleprompter is called the Glide Gear TMP100 and it's currently $200 on Amazon at the time of shooting this video. And it comes with a carrying case. All the screws needed to make this work on any tripod or stand. I do wanna mention if you create videos using your phone, they do have a phone one for half the price the only caveat with that one is obviously you need the phone to read off of, in addition to your phone using to film. Sometimes I actually use my phone, as something to reference when I'm filming, but I do love also how they have included various screws at the bottom. depending on whatever mount or the stand you are using to hold it up, has the size you need. We like using our Manfrotto tripod with this quick release plate, and we'll put a link to everything I'm mentioning in this video, in the description below. The quick release helps with putting on and off the teleprompter very easily and snappy. And so maybe look into a quick release system that will work best for your mounting solution. Also, I do love how they put the screw for the camera in a way that it won't be lost or can't fall off the tripod itself. And so that's very helpful. The cover for the camera has an adjustable option that just tighten itself around the lens. So you actually still have access to the back of the camera if you wanna review footage or anything like that. The other neat feature is the adjustable mount for whatever size tablet you're actually using. And this will allow you to hold the tablet securely in place. I've been using my old iPad mini, and it's just been super great for us. The last thing for sure is simply how small it folds up and fits nicely in the bag, so bringing it to a shoot or storing it away is a breeze. The next thing I wanna share is the app we use, and that is the PromptSmart Pro app. This app is $19.99 and it's well worth it. There is a free version and it's called the Lite, but it does have limited features. This app is super simple to use and can connect with any other apps like your Google Drive, your Dropbox, your iCloud and others. But my favorite thing about this app is called VoiceTrack. And that's where the app is literally listening to you read your script so you can sound as natural as possible. And oftentimes having to just scroll at a pace can make you sound like you're actually reading. This VoiceTrack feature is pretty flawless when you're actually up close to your iPad or tablet when filming. But if you are further away, you definitely wanna plug in a mic into your iPad or your tablet, because it needs to hear you reading it. And so if you're far away and it can't hear you read, then the speecher is gonna be very frustrating to use. One way around this, is to invest in a separate mic that you can just put near you when the camera's far away. And we love this $20 Lav. It has like 20 feet. So you can run it all the way close to your mouth, the iPad or tablet can then hear you read your script. Another option could be like a Rode Wireless Go. If you have one laying around and you're not using it for the actual shoot, plugging that into your tablet and then clipping that on to your shirt and then reading your teleprompter, then it's then reading you read your script. Also, you can control the app using your phone. So if you do stumble, you can just scroll wirelessly, from that moment you stumbled and then start reading again. But just note that if you wanna do that kind of workflow, there's a monthly subscription for a few dollars a month to access it. I'm not about that. So I actually just don't use that, but you can. Another cool thing about this app, is the ability to just do note cards. So maybe if you're not the type to read a script, a full on script off the teleprompter, you can just use a note card feature to keep your main points in front of you. And then you can also put like a timer. And so if you're the type to use a note card, then this app is great for you as well. Now I wanna share with you some quick tips when reading off of a teleprompter, as well as an alternative teleprompter, that might be better for you. But let me know if you're getting value in this video by hitting the like button for me. Thank you so much. And question for you is what videos do you script out or do you use a notepad, do you use your memory to use your phone? Let me know in the comment section below, it's always funny to find out the different ways people actually remember the content they are delivering on camera. But, let's go into this first tip to level up your teleprompter reading game. So the first tip to looking better and confident on camera is to not look like you're actually reading. This is done by the expression you show on your face. It's also done by using your hands and body language. And so implementing these things will actually make it look like you're not actually reading. I'm actually reading a teleprompter right now, but that leads me to tip number two. And that is using inflection with your voice. You can definitely sound like you are reading a teleprompter. If you're reading very robotic with your voice and you don't show emotion with your inflections. personally, I like using parentheses in my script. It helps me know when to actually change my inflection. So sometimes I'll lean into the camera when the parentheses portion shows up. Another helpful tip is to just put breaks in your script. And then in post, you can simply cut out those dead spaces. Allows me to breathe, regroup myself. And then when you're done, you can just pick back right where you stumbled or carry on. It's okay to not read all at once. And you can do little by little, and then in post, you can make it look seamless by cutting out those dead spaces and then zooming in and or out. when those times actually pick up, we do this a lot on Think Media, there is a way to actually level that process, and that is just to keep the last frame. So if you ended your thought with your hands up like this, just start the next thought with your hands up like this, and then it'll look more natural when you make those edits and posts. Okay, I'm gonna tell you about another problem. Now, I want to tell you about another teleprompter. A lot of people in our community use, and that is the Padcaster Parrot, portable smartphone teleprompter. Jeez. This teleprompter literally screws right onto your lens and uses your phone as the teleprompter. What's really cool about this one is definitely its portability, as well as the remote it comes with. So you don't have to constantly go up to your phone. You can just use the Bluetooth remote. This teleprompter is $99, and we'll make sure we put links to everything in the description below. And now if you don't have a camera yet for creating videos with your teleprompter, click or tap the screen to watch a video on our top recommendations, and you can hit the like button, if you found value in this video, thank you. And make sure to subscribe to Think Media for more videos, just like this one. And so we can't wait to see you in the next video. Peace. (upbeat music)
7. Best Teleprompter App for Android (Updated!)
- Here's our roundup of the best teleprompter apps for Android right now so that you can do stuff like this or this, with your smartphone or tablet the next time you shoot your videos. (upbeat music) Hey it's Justin Brown here from Primal Video where we help you amplify your business and brand with video. If you're new here make sure you click that subscribe button and all the links to everything we mention in this video you can find linked in the description box below, so let's jump into it. So teleprompters or autocues are a super handy tool to help you nail a script in front of camera or even just remember some dot points or the key things that you need to cover in your video. These days there are some really powerful teleprompter apps for your Android tablet or phone and ultimately there's two different types, those that will replace a separate teleprompter entirely and show your script on the screen of your phone or of your tablet, which is great if you're going to be creating videos on the go. And than there's those that work really really well with a separate teleprompter like in our studio setup here, where you use your phone or your tablet primarily to create a feed of your script that you can easily control. So we'll be looking at my top picks for both of these kind of apps in this video. And while we're going through make sure to let us know down in the comments what's your favorite teleprompter app right now and why? So the first apps we're gonna take a look at are the teleprompter and camera apps all in one. So these are designed to completely replace a teleprompter and they're gonna be perfect for you for creating videos on the go if you're going to be using your phone to create your videos. So the biggest advantage then of using these apps and this setup is that you are completely mobile, you won't need any extra gear, tripods, or anything really to make this work beyond your phone. The disadvantages then would be that you are limited just to using your phone and not using this with any other larger or a more professional camera and also you'll have aa much smaller area from where you'll be reading your text from. So getting to the apps then, there are an absolute tons of these in the Play Store and I have to say that most of them are absolute crap. Yes, they will let you record a video using the front facing camera on your phone, and yes they will put your script or your dot points or whatever else on screen so that you can read it, but the biggest problem with them is that the script is way too big and way to far away from your phone's camera so it's so obvious that you are reading a script and not talking and connecting with your viewers. That's the whole point of using a teleprompter, is to be able to have your notes, have your dot points, but still have it in a way where you're able to present and talk and make eye contact with the viewer. So it would be exactly the same as me sitting here now reading or looking off on either side of the camera as I'm clearly reading a script, it's a disconnect. So the biggest thing you need with an app like this is to have the text small enough and position close enough to your camera on your phone, whether you're using it in portrait, whether you're using it in landscape for it to be effective and for it to look like you're not reading a script. So like I said, most of the apps out there are absolute crap if you want good results in doing this, but there is one game changer of an app and it is called Nano Teleprompter, now this thing is amazing. This is the one app that you need to download and install if you're looking to create videos on your smartphone and have a script or dot points or whatever on screen. So the biggest standout feature with this app is that it's not just making you use their own camera or the built in camera app on your phone, you can actually overlay text on top of any app, meaning that you can open this up to more professional camera apps, things like Filmic Pro, or you can even overlay your script or your dot points over livestreaming apps. So if you are going to go live on Instagram, if you are gonna go live on Facebook or really any other app that you want to use, you can overlay your script on top of that and have it play through or you very even tap and swipe it through and speed it up and slow it down while you're live as well. So not only does this app work as a floating script widget that you can put on top of any app and present your script, but it also works as a regular teleprompter app as well. So if you do want to use it with a proper teleprompter, you can do it with this app as well. Now the app itself is really really easy to use, it's fast to get up to speed, even if you've never used an app like this before. To get your text in there, once you open the app, you just press the plus button down the bottom corner, give your text a title and then you can paste your text in from anywhere else. Once you got your text in there, it's really easy to customize everything up, you can even highlight sections of your text, make some words bold or underline to stand out to make it easier for you while you're presenting as well. Then all you need to do when you're ready to go is hit that play button down the bottom right hand corner. and this where you get to customize out the window that your script is going to play back in. So you can change the background color, the text color, you can change your line spacing, you can change the opacity, and then all you need to do, if you wanna float this app on top of any other app is hit start floating. So at this point that window or that widget is now floating above any app that you open up next. You can pick it up, you can move it around, you can adjust the size of it by hitting the crop button down the bottom right hand corner. If you press play, your script is gonna start scrolling and you will be able to see it on screen. And while the text is playing you can easily adjust the speed using the slider on the bottom to speed it up or down and you can also pinch to zoom on that widget to make the fonts or the text smaller or larger as well. There's also a rotate button up the top as well, so if you are gonna be switching between portrait and landscape, you can rotate your text around so that it matches whichever way you're holding your phone. Now even if you're someone who's not interesting in using the advanced camera apps like Filmic Pro or using this for livestreaming and you just wanna create your videos using it, you can get great results just using the built in camera app on your phone with this app as well. But my biggest pro tip for using this app and getting great results with the front facing camera on your phone is to try and make the reading area as small as possible and the fonts as small as possible but obviously still big enough so you can easily read it. And you wanna position this window as close to the front facing camera as possible so that your eyes aren't wondering too far away from the camera which is where it's obvious that you're not looking directly at the camera. Having it close enough in this case is gonna still look like you're looking directly at your viewers but with the added advantage that you've got your script on screen as well. Now in regards to pricing, Nano Teleprompter is currently selling for $2.99 in the Play Store which is ridiculously cheap for what it lets you do. So that's my pick for best teleprompter camera app on Android. Now we're gonna take a look at the best teleprompter apps for use with a teleprompter in your studio setup like what I'm using here. So the advantages of this setup is that you're able to use a larger range of cameras. And a lot of cases more professional cameras than just your smartphone. It also means that you can have a much larger display or much larger script on screen which can make it easier for you to present especially if you're gonna be further away from the camera. The biggest disadvantages though with this setup is that it does require more gear and more setup and in most cases it is less portable to pick up and move around with a teleprompter. And really quickly just to save all the questions down in the comments, the teleprompter that I'm currently using and the one that I currently recommend for ease of use and portability is the Parrot V2 Teleprompter, there will be a link in the description below for that. I think this is a really amazing, really easy to use, really easy to setup teleprompter, and it will work on a huge range of cameras as well. So link in the description. So on to the apps then to use with an actual teleprompter, again there a heap in the apps store, and again, most of them are pretty average. We've gone and tested a ton and these are my recommendations. The first one is PromptSmart Pro, now this one has an absolute ton of customizability, it'll also work on iOS as well so if you are mixing the two devices you can get a subscription and it will work on both. There's lots of control over how you're able to mirror the text so that it does actually work properly with your teleprompter but I think one of the biggest standout features with this app is that it's got voice tracking and voice scrolling. And it actually works really really well. So when you get the app set up and you got your script in there and you press play and you start presenting it, it will actually automatically scroll the text for you based on where you're up to reading and presenting your script. So if you someone who's gonna read word for word a script from start to finish, this could be an absolute game changer for you. If you're someone who just wants a couple of dot points on screen, or you're someone who likes to redo takes over and over again, maybe that feature's not for you, I have found that if I do wanna redo a sentence or a paragraph again, that I manually have to scroll back up, it doesn't go back and analyze the text after you've already said it, it only looks forward. So again, depending on the types of videos you're making that could be a huge time saver for you. They also have a separate available that you can use on a second device to act as a remote control so you can control the scrolling and the speed and everything from a separate device while you're standing in front of the camera as well. Now PromptSmart Pro does have the ability to do video recording and audio recording while you're presenting your script as well. But really I wouldn't recommend using this feature unless it was just there as a reference point. If you actually wanna use your phone and present a script and do the recording on your phone, that's what our last app, Nano Teleprompter is perfect for. And is much much better than PromptSmart Pro's video capabilities. So when you open up PromptSmart Pro, again, you've got a plus button down the bottom to add a new script, you can choose bulk import, you can choose import, or you can just create a new one where you're copying and pasting your text in. If we hit import, you've got the ability to import from places like Box, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or files that are saved locally on your device as well. So in this case I'm just gonna go plus, let's go new script, let's give it a name, let's paste some text in, we're gonna hit the back button and our text is now saved in there. Then down on the bottom you can see that we've got a settings button here, if we press on that, this is where we can customize everything up for this script, so we can change the fonts, the size, the color, the background color. We've got the ability here to turn on that voice track scrolling. You can see here detects your speech and scrolls accordingly, or you can manually set a scrolling speed, or you can manually control it yourself, where you're just swiping it yourself and moving the script along as and when you need it. You've got all of your mirror options there from mirror horizontally, vertically. You can remember your script position if you close the app and you come back in, it will remember where you were. You got things like timers and guides. This side margin position, depending on which teleprompter you're using, is an amazing feature to really help you position the text so that it matches your camera and the teleprompter that you're using. A lot of teleprompter apps don't have this feature and this plays into the frustration with some of them, because it's really hard to get the text fitting properly for your device. And you can see there's just a heap of other features in here as well. When you've locked down your settings all you need to do is hit the play button and your script is now ready to go. And if you've got that auto voice scrolling enabled, it's gonna automatically start scrolling once you start speaking. Now in regards to pricing there is a free version of PromptSmart Pro called PromptSmart Lite, as far as I'm concerned there's way too many restrictions on that and it's not really worth a look in. But they've recently changed the pricing on PromptSmart Pro, now you actually download the app for free and that includes a seven day free trial so that you can try it all out, see that it works for you and that you like the things like voice control, and then inside the app itself, to upgrade to the pro version after the seven days, it's either $2.99 per month or $29.99 for the year. They also offer an extended subscription which is either $3.99 per month or $34.99 per year, which does unlock some additional features like being able to use the remote that they give you the free app for. So the next Android teleprompter app for use with an actual teleprompter, is once again, Nano Teleprompter. Not only is it a fantastic teleprompter camera app, it's also a fantastic teleprompter app as well. So I don't need to do a full run through on this app again, but to trigger teleprompter mode instead of the floating mode, all you need to do different, once you've got your script in there and you've got it set up, ready to go, press that play button down the bottom, customize up, again, the look and feel of how you want your text to be displayed. You do wanna make sure that you're ticking the box there for mirrored, so that your text is going to be flipped, so that it will work fine on your teleprompter, and then instead if hitting start floating just press start in app. And just the same then as the little floating app window, you've got all of your controls down the bottom to adjust the speed, you can pinch to zoom to adjust the font size, you can rotate your phone around to change it easily between portrait and horizontal, and using the two sliders at the top you can easily adjust the margin widths or how wide the text is gonna be displayed on your teleprompter. And also the focus area, which is where the text is brightest which should be the area that you're focusing on while you're reading your script. So it's really awesome to have these features so easily accessible without then having to go back into menus and those sorts of things to configure everything up. You can actually do it while it's setup on your teleprompter and in presenting mode. In regards to pricing again, the Nano Teleprompter app currently sells for $2.99 as a one time purchase, not $2.99 a month, just $2.99. So whether you're gonna be using this with an actual teleprompter or whether you're going to be using this app to do the video recording and bring your script up on screen, you can see how amazing this app is and why I'm so pumped to share it with you. So to round this our for you, if you are are looking for the best app right now to use your phone camera and to present to the front camera and have your script on screen, hands down it's gonna go to Nano Teleprompter, there's really nothing else out there like it. But if you wanna use your Android phone or tablet with an actual teleprompter, then you've really got two app options, you've got PromptSmart Pro if you're someone who is looking for all of the advanced features and controls and obviously having that voice control in there as well and automatic voice scrolling. That's an amazing feature and if you're creating videos where you've written out the entire script that could be the best thing for you. Or if you're not too worried about the voice control and you're still looking for an amazing app to use with your teleprompter, then Nano Teleprompter is going to be a great choice for you. Personally, for me, my go to right now for Android teleprompter app is Nano Teleprompter, given that it's one app that ticks a lot of boxes, but if I am gonna be presenting out a really long script and something where I'm not gonna be doing multiple takes on things, then yes, I'll be using PromptSmart Pro, and I'll be using that voice scrolling feature. So those are our top recommended apps for teleprompter apps and teleprompter camera apps on Android right now. Now if you are creating videos using your Android device and you're looking to up the quality and your process to get the best results out of your device, then check out the video linked on screen and I'll see you in the next one.

10. How Does A Presidential Teleprompter Work?
And now a message from our sponsors--us! A lot of you been asking how I've recorded hundreds of YouTube videos. Right now, I'm standing in front of a chromakey backdrop. By combining a green screen with a teleprompter, I'm able to script all of my lines in advance, adding the visuals in post-processing. I'm going to let you in on a little secret...a teleprompter is simply a beamsplitter mirror that displays my script in front of a camera. Using a teleprompter allows me to thoroughly research detailed scripts in advance and deliver them effortlessly. The magic is in the transparent mirror which provides tint-free visibility for my camera to record through. Because my script is in front of a camera lens, I can keep direct eye contact with my audience. Hi! I'm Jessica, videographer, actress, and anything else that I want to be when using my teleprompter! I made this to help you deliver your message quickly and confidently on camera. I hope you enjoy it and find it useful for your presentations and videos.
