L-Acoustics systems support 360-degree audio for Tencent Video All Star Night
Background and context
The 2025 Tencent Video All Star Night, staged at Wuyuanhe Gymnasium in Haikou, brought together more than 100 high-profile film, television, and music personalities for one of China’s most-watched entertainment galas.
Now in its seventh edition, the event attracts millions of online viewers and continues to adopt new production formats. The 2025 show introduced a dedicated red-carpet segment, new awards for short-drama performers, AI-driven virtual hosts in the broadcast, and a reconfigured arena layout with a stage positioned at the exact centre of the venue.
Beijing Dadong Huahan was responsible for the sound reinforcement, supported by Racpro, an L-Acoustics Certified Partner. Together, they were tasked with ensuring consistent audio quality across both the red-carpet area and the central performance stage.
Key announcement
The production team deployed an L-Acoustics ecosystem that combined Syva systems for the outdoor arrivals area with K Series loudspeakers inside the gymnasium.
On the red carpet, Racpro installed two Syva units with Syva Low extensions, placed to either side of the main media backdrop. The compact column design was chosen to blend with the visual set while still delivering coverage for live commentary, interviews, and fan interaction.
Inside the arena, the in-the-round stage created a 360-degree audience bowl, requiring even sound distribution in all directions without obstructing sightlines. Designers used L-Acoustics Soundvision software to simulate coverage before installation.
The final system design included two main hangs, each with six K1 and six K2 cabinets, and four additional side arrays of 10 K2 each. Around the stage perimeter, 10 front-fill positions were equipped with two Kara II cabinets apiece. All arrays were flown to keep views of the central stage clear for both in-person attendees and broadcast cameras.
Industry impact
The All Star Night setup reflects a broader shift in large-scale entertainment events toward immersive, 360-degree audience layouts. Central stages, while visually engaging, place added demands on system design, particularly in arenas where reflective surfaces and full-capacity seating can complicate coverage.
This project shows how Chinese production companies are integrating predictive design tools, such as Soundvision, into planning workflows to reduce uncertainty in complex acoustic environments. It also underscores a trend toward using a single manufacturer’s ecosystem across multiple zones of an event, from arrival areas to main performance spaces.
For rental and production firms, the Haikou deployment illustrates an approach to balancing aesthetic requirements—such as minimal visual impact on a red carpet—with the need for intelligible speech and music reinforcement for broadcast and on-site audiences.
Why this matters
As event formats evolve, particularly in high-profile televised ceremonies, audio teams are being asked to support more content types in more locations, often within a single venue and under tight visual constraints.
The Tencent Video All Star Night production highlights how a unified loudspeaker and software platform can help manage these variables, especially in arenas adopting non-traditional stage positions. For event technology professionals, the project offers a reference point for designing audio systems that must handle both live and streamed audiences without compromising coverage or visuals.
