Studio Club Torremolinos installs dual L-Acoustics systems for contrasting club spaces

Studio Club Torremolinos installs dual L-Acoustics systems for contrasting club spaces

Background and context

Studio Club in Torremolinos, Spain, occupies a building with a long history in nightlife. The venue once operated as Palladium, a well-known club on the Costa del Sol in the 1990s. Under new ownership, the space has been fully redesigned as a contemporary music and art venue.

The club now operates two distinct rooms: a 1,500-capacity main space aimed at large-scale electronic events, and an 800-capacity Gallery Room focused on closer interaction between DJs, artists and audiences. Both rooms have been fitted with L-Acoustics systems designed and integrated by Levels AV, an L-Acoustics Certified Partner.

The project was delivered in phases, with Levels AV first completing the main room around three years ago, then returning to equip the Gallery Room once its programming concept had been defined.

Key announcement

The main room has been equipped with an L-Acoustics A Series system built to approximate the sound pressure and headroom typically associated with outdoor festival stages, but within a permanent indoor environment. The venue hosts international DJs including Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Sara Landry and Dixon, whose technical riders demand consistent coverage and control.

The primary PA consists of three A15 per side, plus two additional A15 providing out-fill to the right. Two A15 per side serve as delays, complemented by two A10 per side for further out-fill. Low frequencies are handled by six KS28 subwoofers installed beneath the DJ booth, with two Kara II used as front fills.

Covers across the two-level room are supported by X Series coaxial enclosures. The balcony uses two X12, supplemented by additional X12 and X8 loudspeakers distributed across left, right and centre positions to keep tonal balance consistent. DJ monitoring is provided by two X12 on a rail-mount system with one SB18 subwoofer per side, while VIP and backstage areas are covered by X8. Amplification is supplied by three LA12X and five LA4X controllers.

The Gallery Room follows a different brief. Here, Studio Club wanted a more intimate, hi-fi-style listening environment, with the DJ booth at audience level and visual art integrated around the space. Before system tuning, the long, narrow room underwent acoustic treatment to control reflections.

Its main system uses two A15 per side (one Focus and one Wide) with two SB15m subs per side flown behind the main arrays. Two A10 per side provide delay coverage, while four KS21 subwoofers beneath the DJ booth extend low-frequency energy across the dancefloor. Monitoring mirrors the main room with two X12 on a rail system and two SB18 subs. The Gallery Room is powered by LA4X amplified controllers.

Industry impact

For club and venue operators, Studio Club’s two-room approach highlights how different audience experiences can be supported under one roof by using a common loudspeaker platform across contrasting acoustic environments.

In the main room, the combination of A15 line sources, KS28 subwoofers and distributed X Series fills demonstrates how large-scale electronic music can be delivered with even coverage in a challenging, high-ceilinged space. In the Gallery Room, the same product family is applied to a smaller, more controlled environment where detail and listener focus are prioritised.

The project also underlines the role of detailed design and onsite calibration in nightclub installs. Levels AV used L-Acoustics Soundvision for initial modelling, then carried out multiple measurement and tuning visits before sign-off, particularly in the main room with its reflective surfaces and architectural recesses.

Why this matters

As nightlife venues compete on experience rather than capacity alone, audio quality has become a key differentiator. Studio Club’s investment shows how operators are increasingly specifying touring-grade systems to meet the expectations of international artists and technically aware audiences.

The installation also illustrates a broader trend toward flexible, scalable point source and line source hybrids in clubs. By relying on L-Acoustics A Series as a common core in both rooms, the venue can offer a coherent sonic character while tailoring sound pressure levels and coverage to each space’s role.

For event technology professionals, the project offers a current reference for high-end club deployments in mid-sized venues, and a case study in how loudspeaker choice, acoustic treatment and commissioning can be aligned with artistic and commercial goals.
