[Music] [Applause] hello and welcome to versa Vision TV sponsored by versa Tron once again I'm your host RW tol today we will be discussing video distribution amplifiers these devices are part of our versa vision family of products and they are designed to distribute both video and audio inputs to multiple outputs of the same so for example let's discuss our model VT a 16 32 a this unit handles a total of 16 CCTV video inputs and 32 video outputs the device uses a built-in amplifier to boost the video signal to the required level to prevent loss and degradation here is a basic illustration of the setup for the VDA 16 32 a as you can see it is used with CCTV cameras but I should note that it can also work with any other CCTV equipment that has standard BNC connections they are also compatible with any other versa vision equipment so in this diagram we have the VDA 16 32 a connected to our one channel the video to fiber devices which are the FD VT 1003 a and the FD VR 1003 a if you would like more information about these products please refer to our previous video for the video installation kits so basically as the diagram shows you have two camera signals going into the video amplifier and those signals are broken out into two video outputs for each camera this is why these products are ideal for applications that require multiple monitoring locations now I should point out that although this diagram illustrates a fiber optic application these products can be used in non fiber applications as well so say if you have a project where you want to split a video signal over a short distance of only a few feet or so you could achieve this by simply using coaxial cable for both inputs and outputs for an example of a real-world application our video distribution VD a 1632 a products are currently in use on drill ships which are merchant vessels used for exploratory offshore drilling of new oil and gas wells these vessels are used in deep water and ultra deep water applications and are equipped with the latest and most advanced dynamic Positioning Systems versatran also offers video audio distribution amplifiers which in addition to the CCTV applications can also accommodate audio microphone type devices there are a total of five different video audio distribution amps that we offer for more information on these or any other versatran products please visit our website or contact us directly as always we would be delighted to speak with you regarding your application thank you once again for joining me in this latest presentation of versa vision TV and remember life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass it's about learning to dance in the rain [Music] [Applause] you

right here's another ham fest find this box here is a 16 channel video distribution amplifier mainly used in video surveillance and security systems that gives me 16 channels single video in and 4 channels out I can also be configured to be a single channel in with 8 channels out this basically unity gain buffer to distribute out to multiple video monitors now again I got it at a bargain price and my sole intention was to harvest the BNC connectors out of it so but before we do that we'd take a quick look at it maybe open it up and we'll also see if it works most RF systems that use BNC connectors are a 50 ohm impedance while most video systems that use the BNC s are 75 ohm now there are some physical differences between the two most notably with the insulator material around the center conductor with the 75 ohm often times it's a smaller diameter or sometimes non-existent at all noticed have the center contact kind of floating with that air insulator around it however the mating surfaces the mating features of these connectors are identical there's a very common misconception that intermedius 50 ohm plug with a 75 ohm a receptacle or vice versa can either cause damage to the center female connector or it can cause intermittent contact between the center conductor on the plug and the receptacle and I think this stems from the fact that on the plug itself and when you're assembling them the pin that's in there has got the same diameter on the mating surface here but has a different diameter on the crimping or soldering surface back here where the center pin of the coax is connected but all the manufacturers data sheets that I've looked at from folks like huber and sooner and Amphenol and other well-respected RF connector manufacturers all indicate that the center pin diameter is the same and can mate equally well into 75 ohm 50 unplugs now of course there still will be an impedance mismatch between the two even if they mate properly now when you get up into you know several hundred megahertz or a few gigahertz that mismatch might start causing issues but I might use for BNC connectors typically our small little projects that I'll build here on the bench and the frequencies are generally you know HF frequencies are below and when we consider the duration of the impedance discontinuity is some small subset of the length of this connector that distance is really really small with respect to the wavelength of the signals that I'm passing through them so the effect of that discontinuity is minimal so I think I'm perfectly fine harvesting these connectors for my little HF projects here on the bench now hooking up power to the unit and applying a input signal from my signal generator and taking a look at the output of one of the channels looks like I get a decent signal through here so I want to do a quick check to see if the bandwidth is what the datasheet says lady sheet says we should have a a 16 megahertz 3 DB bandwidth so what I did is I adjusted the set own generator to give me a 1 volt peak-to-peak output out of the output here and I'll simply adjust the frequency until that amplitude reduces down to about 0.7 volts that'll be about the 3 DB point so if we start rolling that frequency up here and we can see the amplitude coming down and we get up to about let's see looks like right about here that's 19 megahertz we're down to about 710 712 milli volts peak-to-peak so looks like we you know easily meet or even slightly exceed the rated 16 megahertz bandwidth for this unit off-camera I did verify that literally every single one of these channels works so start to make me feel a little guilty that I bought it simply to tear it apart and rip the BNC connectors out of it but let's take a look and see what we're dealing with inside and maybe we'll decide when I change our mind who knows now a quick glance at the circuit we can actually see that there are eight identical sub circuits kind of arranged here on the board so let's take a closer look at one of them and see what we're dealing with well all eight of these sub circuits are identical with the exception of the one at the very end and the only real difference is there is a full wave rectifier an extra filter cap at this end which is the power comes in here and the power can either be you know 12 volts AC which would get rectified here and then sent off to all the sub circuits or you could put in 15 volts DC and that would just pass through the bridge so you ignore that the rest of these circuits are identical and a circuit actually is pretty simple there's a bunch of you know electrolytic capacitors in here and there's really just two ICS this is a little 12 volt regulator chip and then this is our amplifier if I get too light to kind of shine on here right we might be able to see that it's an al 15:08 CMZ and that is actually a a pretty nice little driver chip let's take a quick look at the specs for that so this e L 1508 is a differential DSL line driver 450 milliamp output drive capability and what the right power supplies can actually drive over 43 volts peak-to-peak differential into the hundred ohm differential load so certainly it's can be used in 50 ohm or 75 ohm systems with that kind of drive capability so it looks like a pretty decent chip certainly can understand why they chose it to use it here look at the way this thing was designed there's actually two circuit boards in here the board down at the bottom simply houses all of the connectors and there's a row of board to board edge connectors along the edge here that connects this top board with all the electronics on it down to the board at the bottom with all of the BNC connectors well the fact that every one of the channels on this thing works with about 20 megahertz worth of bandwidth for unity gain starts to make me rethink a little bit about my you know decision just to rip all the BNC connectors out of this thing and toss it so 1 inch ting application would be as a reference distribution amplifier many of the pieces of test equipment here like the signal generators the scope and spectrum analyzer have the ability to accept a 10 megahertz reference input now by using something like a GPS disciplined reference oscillator or rubidium oscillator I could use that as a master reference for most of the equipment here in the lab using this as a distribution amplifier to send that 10 megahertz reference to all of the equipment making it all locked together and making some measurements more accurately so so now I have a little bit of a quandary you know do I want to rip this thing apart or do I want to use it for that type of application now of course I don't have anywhere near this number of pieces of test equipment here and the fact that the circuit is so symmetric I could literally you know probably cut the board right here and give myself you know 2 4 6 you know 6 channels with each of these kind of buffered outputs to send the reference off to you know lots of these different pieces of equipment and still have myself a lot of B and C connectors to stick in the drawer for future projects so anyway let me ask you what would you do would you use it as it is and just kind of leave the unused channels unused would you just kind of stick to your guns and rip all the BNC connectors out of it and and toss the rest of it or would you maybe hack a piece of this off and use a bunch of the distribution channels for an application in the lab and then with the rest of them take whole it BNC connectors and use them for projects and then possibly even harvest this buffer chip for some other projects as well anyway just some interesting things to think about thought you might enjoy [Music] hi my name is Brian carpenter I'm here on the nab 2019 floor at the bitchery booth showing our new distribution product this is a 32 wide frame individual hot swappable cards are available typical one by four arrangement meaning one in four out you might say copper in for copper out but we do offer a SFP on the back which allows the customer to go in or out fiber transport or IP transport in or out which makes this quite a flexible product and and this shows in depth here the density we have here on the rear dim connectors primarily for the copper and SFP connectors for whatever you're coming in and here we're showing a fiber transport you could also do IP in or out on any given channel it's quite a flexible unit by design also reak locks your signal which is a huge benefit on every channel so it can also be used as a reclick or a signal signal regenerator you might say and it helps in many instances this product is very useful for reducing cabling and high density situations can save on the monitor jack ports save on tons of cabling and also a it makes everything in a convenient location and it's good for mobile applications is a great usage for it broadcast facilities transport facilities you can the whole combination of effect the via with this SFP integrated to the rear on any given channel opens the door to many opportunities and where this can be used or part of it could be used for one application part of it could be used for a different application in the same facility it's quite unique in that the it's also available with patch Jack's on the front which allows engineering to monitor what's president the da physically plug into the top and monitor without breaking any of the signals in the da so that that is a unique feature if you patch into the bottom as we're showing here and that inserts into the input of the da and that becomes the source for this da channel right here you can get these without the jack ports it is available without that feature if need be also if 32 across is not your necessity we do have a 4 wide unit that's available to rackmount or throw down somewhere if necessary and so that's the new da distribution transport product available at bit tree contact bit tree or marker check for more information [Music]

my hello I'm Dennis gojo product manager with the advanced fiber products and I'm here to talk about the video distribution amplifier it's a media converter and an amplifier two products in one so it's actually kind of a multifunctional product in that can also act as a simple switch it has fiber input in output it has a coax input and six coax outputs so that's the distribution amplifier aspect of it so it has three modes of operation and the first mode has fiber in fiber out and coax out coax in fiber out and coax out and the third mode actually does two things at once in that it will allow fiber to come in and coax out and coax in and fiber out all the signals are reek locked reconstituted so that you can extend distance of a fresh signal and so you can in both extend distance and use it as a distribution amplifier it uses traditional st kinds of connectors the bayonet kind of connector that the broadcast industry likes and b and cs4 the copper 70 50 mb NCS it's an isolated product it also has an option for Ethan remote Ethernet monitoring of the diagnostics and this also has LEDs that indicate the path as this one is showing the green lit LED show that the path is fiber in and we have copper out and we also have fiber out at the same time we see a red light over here which says there is no copper input at the moment and that's it thank
