Blue Rocket Solutions completes Canada’s first L-Acoustics home theater in Muskoka estate

Background and context

A private lakeside residence in Ontario’s Muskoka region has become the first home in Canada to feature a dedicated theater built around an L-Acoustics sound system. The project was delivered by Ontario-based integrator Blue Rocket Solutions as part of a broader renovation of the 16,000-square-foot property.

The existing theater, a two-row, seven-seat room, had not been updated for around 20 years. According to Blue Rocket Solutions, the original system suffered from weak dialogue intelligibility, limited bass impact, and poor surround imaging, prompting the homeowner to look beyond a simple refurbishment.

Initial plans focused on removing and later reinstalling the legacy equipment. That changed when discussions with Blue Rocket Solutions owner Ryan Guest moved toward what could be achieved with a ground-up redesign using contemporary cinema and immersive audio standards.

Key announcement

The homeowner ultimately commissioned a new system based on an L-Acoustics design, making it the first residential theater in Canada to use the manufacturer’s home-focused loudspeaker and amplification platform. The room has since been certified to CEDIA’s RP-22 Level II performance standard.

Using L-Acoustics’ Soundvision 3D acoustical modeling software, Blue Rocket Solutions specified a 7.1.4 layout with 15 loudspeakers driven by a single LA7.16i amplified controller. The unit provides 16 channels of amplification and DSP, loudspeaker management, and networked control from one chassis.

  • Low frequencies are handled by four Syva Sub units, mounted horizontally in two stacks at the front of the room.
  • Front left, center, and right channels use three X8i coaxial loudspeakers, recessed into the front wall behind an acoustically transparent Seymour projection screen.
  • Eight X6i loudspeakers provide surround and height channels, with four wall-mounted as side and rear surrounds and four installed overhead for immersive content.

The theater’s video chain is built around a Sony projector and a madVR processor, feeding a 4K acoustically transparent screen. Sources include Apple TV, a Sony PlayStation 5, and a Kaleidescape movie server supplying lossless audio and reference-quality video.

An Anthem Atmos surround processor, paired with an RME analog-to-digital converter, delivers 13 balanced analog pre-outs into the LA7.16i via AVB network audio. Blue Rocket Solutions also added six zones of controllable lighting and integrated theater and lighting control via a Savant system.

Industry impact

While L-Acoustics is best known for its touring and installed sound systems in arenas, performing arts centers, and festivals, this project highlights the brand’s push into high-end residential cinema. The Muskoka installation demonstrates how tools and workflows from large-scale venues—such as predictive 3D system modeling and networked amplification—are being adopted in private environments.

For integrators, the project underlines a trend toward using professional loudspeaker ecosystems and amplification in home theaters that target CEDIA performance benchmarks. Modeling the space in Soundvision before construction allowed Blue Rocket Solutions to predict coverage, SPL, and potential problem areas, reducing risk and tuning time on site.

CEDIA RP-22 Level II certification provides a third-party performance reference for the room’s design and calibration, which may become increasingly important as homeowners invest in premium private screening spaces and expect measurable outcomes.

Why this matters

For the residential and luxury hospitality segment, Canada’s first L-Acoustics home theater is a marker of growing demand for cinema rooms that behave more like small professional screening environments than traditional living-room systems.

For event technology professionals, the project shows how pro AV brands and toolsets are migrating into adjacent markets. Techniques familiar from live events—such as coherent, fully managed loudspeaker systems, networked audio transport, and detailed room modeling—are now shaping expectations in high-end home projects.

As clients request cinema experiences closer to commercial theaters and premium event venues, integrators with experience in both entertainment and residential work may find new opportunities at the top end of the market.
