Replaced knobs and away we go!!! Perfect!!!
The media could not be loaded.

I agree with a previous reviewer, at least my fingers kept slipping off the original knobs because they are small and tapered. Maybe they work for other people… This is my personal experience only… I replaced the knobs with some new ones I found on eBay. Not cheap, though, about £24 for 24 replacements. Would have been better if Akai had put easier-to-use knobs on to start with, for my big fingers. I would have paid another fiver for straighter knobs… I searched on eBay UK for MidiMix knobs and found some advertised as such. It was a bit tricky getting the old knobs off. I ended up wrapping a bit of nano tape around them and gently pulling them off, one by one. I can only say that it worked for me; up to you what you do. I guess my warranty is now void, but I’ve kept the old knobs in case they need to go back on. Now with the new knobs pushed on, the MidiMix is perfect for me!!! I do not regret my purchase at all. The MidiMix looks great and now works great, and with new customised knobs, it proudly sits on my mixing desk (sitting up at an angle, held in place with more nano tape), ready for my next big hit production!!!. Easy to use and not too expensive. Works great with Ableton Live. No regrets!!! 🙂 It was fortunate the new knobs fitted the knob shafts on the unit. I guess I was lucky with my purchase. This is just my personal experience; I am not a professional and don’t know if this would work for you. You would have to research it fully and decide for yourself what you do.

    Muitas possibilidades!
Produto recomendado!

    Brilliant, just one small problem
The MidiMix is a brilliant piece of equipment.Does exactly what I wanted it to do …. but for one small design feature. The control knobs are terrible. (this is why I knocked off one star )Very small, terrible shape and not so easy to use. After I replaced all the control knobs with after market ones….. it was 100% better. Why Akai fitted these is beyond me …. they spoilt a brilliant piece of equipment for the sake of a very small upgrade. The pics show the after market knobs I fitted. Also the lines added, I did….. I have 4 separate products I need to control for Gig Performer, so sectioning this off made things easier for me.

    Works In A Fashion
Bought this to use with FL Studio 21 Signature edition. Foolishly I expected this to work from the off, but it didn’t. I managed to track down a script on the Image Line forum that at least made this work in Mixer Mode. Nothing would happen in Controller Mode though, even with the script.I did get around this, although it’s a pain, by assigning each knob manually to certain Fruity and third party effects plugs. Works well, but is a bit laborious to set up every time, and annoying FL Studio “forgets” these parameters when I start a new project.Still, for £70 you get 24 assignable knobs and the sliders. Still think it’s a nice little controller. Shame there isn’t more integration for these kind of things. Manufacturers just tend to veer towards Ableton Live and ignore other DAWs.Overall, a nice controller that works fine with a little effort with FL Studio. My main criticism would be the shallow knobs. MKe using it on the fly a little fiddly.

A nice little mixer with tons of assignable knobs and faders.
I needed a quick controller to use for my live DJ sets on Tik Tok that worked with Ableton and my Novation Launchpad MKII’s. This was one day shipping so I decided to go for it.It has tons of knobs and faders that are assignable to any parameter, be it Ableton or FL Studio, Resolume, etc. This device was made especially for Ableton Live for controlling volume for different instruments, midi, and samples. Out of the box, you can connect it and it will immediately connect to Ableton (If you’re on a MAC. Otherwise, you’ll need to install the driver) If the original control template it loads up isn’t for you, you’re able to custom change every single button, knob, and fader (You just need to turn off “Control” option in the MIDI tab on Ableton Preferences.Only con is that the knobs seem to be weirdly shaped and slippery. If you have phaat fingers, you’ll find it hard to really turn the knobs 360 in one rotation without your fingers slipping off. It really is a small con considering it’s only a con where it’s being used as a live mixer for a show or something. It’s small, stable, packable, and gets the job done.Advance Note: Since I’m using an additional launchpad with this device, I’ve had issues assigning a button from the launchpad to do something and reading the same midi as a button on the mixer. Some midi notes have a similar name so when I push a button on the launchpad, it simultaneously launches a button on the mixer. Haven’t found a workaround, but until I do, I cant use some of the buttons on the mixer.

    Media server controller
The Akai MidiMix works really well for controlling Arkaos MediaMaster Pro. The buttons and faders are recessed enough where I am not concerned with accidental damage while in storage (I bought a case for the unit separately on Amazon) and transit.

A good deal for the money!
I don’t normally write reviews, but I decided to write one for Akai MIDImix.  I bought this product for a specific reason: to use it as an outboard controller for my virtual synths in my DAW (digital audio workstation: in this case Logic Pro X).  I had been using my iPad to perform this function, but I wanted a hardware solution rather than a software one. This is my first Akai product and although they have been around for years, I never really thought of them as a pro-level manufacturer so my expectations were not too high.  Initial thoughts/Unboxing:The MIDImix arrived in a nice high-end looking box and was packaged securely.  It is not a large piece of hardware, but it was a bit larger than I was expecting.  Sliders:The sliders are large enough to give you a fair fader travel amount and they have an OK feel to them.Knobs:The knobs are a bit small and fiddly, but they are certainly big enough to get a finger and thumb on without effecting other the other knobs around them.  There are a bunch of them which is GREAT for virtual synths!Gel Buttons:The gel buttons have a standard feel to them.  They are very easily accessible although there is a row of buttons that serve a double function requiring clicking the ‘solo’ button to access a virtual third row of gel buttons.  I would have preferred a physical row resulting in three rows instead of two.Build Quality:The quality of the case feels solid and is a pretty red and black color combination.  All the buttons, knobs and sliders feel firm and well attached.  I would suspect this mixer would happily survive getting thrown into a backpack and carted around without any additional protection.Usability:This hardware is pretty easy to use although I would prefer the knobs to be a bit larger which I suspect the form factor would support.  The knobs are also have quite a low profile and they are sculpted, therefore they could also do with being a bit higher and/or bulky.  That being said, it is not a big enough issue to avoid purchasing based on the price point.Customization:This product was advertised as being customizable, although I did have my reservations.  The paperwork in the box directed me to a URL that required a new account to be created which allowed me to access more software for sale from third parties!  I was NOT impressed by that!  However, on further investigation I did eventually find the software to completely customize all the buttons on the MIDImix.  In my opinion this customization software makes this product well worth the money!  I can create multiple configuration of the controllers and store them on my computer.  I can call them up as needed depending on the virtual instruments I want to control.Software:The software you need to download from the Akai web site is called MIDImix Editor (I would NOT download it from anywhere other than the AKAI website). The software it pretty straightforward to use although not great, but it CERTAINLY does the job you need it to!Overall Bad:That really aren’t many.  The buttons are a little bit small, but at this price point I really have nothing to complain about here.Overall Good:Overall I would give this product a pretty high rating.  I certainly does what I need it to do and is easy to use and provides a decent user experience.  It is a bit smaller than I would like but for the price this is a very good product. 4 out of 5 stars 🙂

I love it but it’s not for beginners
The Akai software is super limited and the buttons cannot be set to toggle and are fixed as button press for which I am reducing one star.I had to use Bome Midi Translator Pro to get this to work the way I wanted to with a lot of translations. For this another -1.It would be easy to make this a super useful beginner device – unfortunately here the hardware is great but the software implementation is really bad and is reflected in a lot of different reviews. Personally, now that I have it working the way I want, I actually love it and wouldn’t go without it. But it took hours and hours of learning about Midi, purchasing a different piece of software and I wouldn’t expect many other customers to go through that much trouble unless you’re working in a profession where knowing about MIDI is part of your job. But in that case you wouldn’t be buying a beginner device in the first place.
