Combining Self-Service Kiosks with Attended Registration

You will most likely want to have one or more registration desks run by humans for attendees who, for whatever reason, are unable to use self-service check-in kiosks. This was covered in the previous post regarding the decisions you will need to make regarding the hardware used and the flow of attendee check-in. Naturally, the badges that are given out at those registration desks ought to feel and touch the same as the ones that are given out at the check-in kiosk. You don’t have to utilize the same printers, though, and a hybrid solution is typically what you want to go with.

Consider the following scenario: 90% of your attendees are “regular attendees,” who make up your major group of attendees. This is essentially the target audience for self-service check-in, which gives you the option to select reasonably priced thermal printers for these kiosks.

But what should you do with the 10% of guests who are still there? They are speakers, exhibitors, VIP guests, or other groups of people you would like to provide badges to in various hues and styles. Additionally, there will be frequent attendees who, for a variety of reasons, will not be able to check in via the self-service kiosks; instead, they will visit the registration desk for assistance.
