Great if you have fast internet and don’t have lot’s of trees
This review is written after several years of trying out this camera (three of them!). One died after a year, but two are going strong after about 2 years. With very slow internet (

    Excellent
Picture quality looks great, ptz is responsive, amcrest application isn’t the greatest I mainly use Blue Iris. Night vision excels without any blurring or reflection, which is a big problems are many types of dome cameras.

    Excellent camera for the price
Overall the camera is a great camera, built from high-quality material. This camera is used as a 24/7 live stream, so I haven’t gotten the full experience with the night vision, however the color at night capabilities are good, nothing compared to AXIS cameras, which can be almost 10x the price. The optical zoom works great and maintains full quality when zooming, and the presets are easy to set up.My least favorite part about this camera is the interface, the Chrome plugin works but is outdated, it would be nice to be able to use a regular browser like Edge, Firefox, or Chrome. The Amcrest Surveillance Pro software works, but I find it extremely laggy to use, generally missing everything I need to see. This has brought me to port forward the RTSP stream and watch it via VLC while controlling it on the software. This could just be an issue due to my home being located almost 100 miles away from the camera which is also on a DSL connection that barely pushes 1 Mbps upload. The DVR function works, so in the event that you can’t see anything because it’s so laggy, you can just rewind the footage and view it that way without (generally) any “laggyness” or stuttering. The audio sucks, get an external mic if you really need one. The location that the camera is streaming at is located at a train station, the horns of the trains obliterate the mic completely defeating the purpose of a mic at all.The resolution actually surprised me, 2MP may not seem like much, but with the zoom, you can certainly make out the faces of people. One comparison to another camera that I’ve owned is a Reolink RLC-423, which features the most out-of-the-box resolutions that I’ve never heard of myself. The Amcrest Pro HD features true 1920x1080p and a solid 30fps.All in all, if you’re using it for your home and inside your network, go for it, if it is being used for remote use (besides the phone app) I would suggest looking for something else. And if you don’t need a mic, or your mounting it close to the ground it should work fine.

Excellent camera for a reasonable price.
This is my second Amcrest CCTV camera I’ve bought. My first one is an Amcrest indoor PTZ (also another good camera for an affordable price), I bought some years ago.I’ve tested this camera model (IP2M-866-EW) for a friend’s CCTV application and is an excellent product; as much that I decided to buy one for my own CCTV security system. Now, the first thing to know is that Amcrest’s are Dahua based cameras; and I know Dahua products as reliable, durable and high quality… so much more than you can expect for “cheap” chinese cameras. Amcrest really worth each buck you pay for it.When you buy this Amcrest, you get a powerful PTZ camera with 2 MP resolution (sounds poor, but believe me, it is enough for residential surveillance), 3X (pretty good for its price) OPTICAL (not digital) zoom, plus pan and tilt movements. Also features integrated mic with “high” (for CCTV purpose standards) quality audio recording capability, long distance IR and good performance in night view. And for those who know about CCTV, it is a PoE powered camera and can be easily integrable to any ONVIF compatible NVR (if is in a Dahua based NVR, integration is plug and play). All this in a compact, tough, semi-vandal proof and discrete camera…. for just about $150……. considering other PTZ cameras with similar features cost about $300 and up… this model from Amcrest would be a good invest in your CCTV security system. Of course, before buy it, see all features and compare similar products and reviews… for me it comply all my requirements.

    Robust little IP cam
I’m using this camera to replaced a failed POE-PTZ-IP cam used in a curling facility to broadcast the overhead view of the rings. The video quality is excellent, and it will go to 30 fps for video streaming at 720p or 1080p. I’m using it at 720p to save some LAN bandwidth and lessen video processing for streaming. The audio quality using the internal mic is good for environmental audio and can be configured from 8000-48000 Hz. Nice. The metal mounting bracket is clever and secure, and makes it easy to mount and de-mount the camera to any solid surface. The web UI configuration is comprehensive and easy using Chrome, although a plugin must be installed and then launched every time the camera is accessed. This is a minor annoyance, but otherwise the web UI works well. The IP Config tool works well to locate the camera IP on your LAN on initial setup using DHCP. The AmCrest Surveillance app does much of what the web UI does, with few exceptions…you can only remove all the watermarks in the web UI. Also, the Amcrest Surveillance and IP Config apps do not scale well on 4K UHD displays, resulting in tiny text. They should be OK on HD (2K) displays. A bonus is this cam will work on the older POE 802.3af (15W) switches. Will update this review after a few months of operation.

Pretty good camera, A-plus bad software
Camera is pretty good.I didn’t expect high resolution video from this device, I knew what I was paying for. Night vision is very good. So is pan, tilt, zoom responsiveness. Sadly all of this is tanked by the most important companion for any camera – easy-to-use software.Software is A-plus horrible.- me thinks they hired someone who said, “I can put everything in it.” Then they left him/her in a room with a computer for a month. Every wiz-bang feature is crammed into a non-linear interface structure, so when looking for what should be simple-to-find functionality, you need to put aside at least 10 minutes to find it. Then another 20 to figure out how to use it.- no tooltips or help files. Again with the really bad UI – some functions are labeled with acronyms, even though spelling out the entire word could have easily sufficed. Just one of many examples; go to Camera > Configuration and you’ll see “BLC mode” and “WB” – hover over them and you’ll see “BLC mode” and “WB.” Someone actually got paid to code in the text label “WB” adjacent to a slider, then copy/paste hover-over text that reads “WB!” Just lazy and sloppy.- they have a desktop app. They have a mobile app. They have a browser-based app. NONE of them are similar. None of them share any user interface elements – they’re all completely different.- The browser ‘app’ only works in chrome, but not within the browser window. Open your browser, enter camera IP address, it advises you to “Please click here to download and install the plug-in.” Install the plugin, now you get an app within your Web browser (see my screen cap showing all the 5-star reviews NOT!). And you have to go through this process every time you open the Web browser. No bookmarking, no shortcuts. Kind of funny, because when you open the Web page for your camera’s IP address, all the functionality is visible and is somewhat functional. You just can’t see video because it’s waiting for the extension to be installed. Again.- no scrub feature for replaying video stored on the SD card. Maybe it exists, but as I already pointed out, the UI is so poorly designed you want to visit it as infrequently as possible. You have to literally sit through the entire recording (if your card supports that amount) to see what happened anywhere within that timeline. At least if motion detection is enabled you can search through the snapshots that were captured.- support is equally bad. By e-mail, expect a 3-day turnaround. By phone is okay until they suggest you submit a ticket via e-mail.If the software was overhauled, this product would easily be 4-5 stars. This type of camera however rides or dies on the quality of it’s software, which right now is no better than 1-star.

    Nice Camera, poor night vision.
We installed new siding and wanted a clean looking camera do I went with 2 of these Amcrest dome cameras. They are low profile and have a clean look. During the day the cameras perform great, but at night you can only see a few feet in front. I use to own Foscam outdoor cameras and the night vision was great, but not on these one’s. I’m going to have a a flood light installed at the back of my house to maybe fix the issue with the poor IR.

Decent price for a PTZ camera
This camera is decent for the price, but has some flaws. The mounts aren’t the greatest. It is sometimes hard to get the camera to fit the mount especially if you are hanging them from a ceiling. The night vision is alright, but there are much better Amcrest cameras that have better night vision that are cheaper. The picture quality is 1080p, which is what is described in the description. If you don’t need PTZ, then I would go with a different camera from Amcrest. If you do need PTZ, then this isn’t a terrible camera to get especially for the price compared to other PTZ outdoor cameras.

Easy to setup and control locally
I don’t like using cloud services so it is important to me that Amcrest allows direct local control of all their IP cameras. I was a long time Foscam user but finally got tired of their poor support and limited options for configuration and setup. This device was easy to setup and interface with my Blue Iris application

Local storage memory capacity is limited to 64GB SD Card but advertised as (up to 256GB)
I own three of these cameras and they all fail to record over 64GB to the SD Card. The box advertises up to 256GB but the camera fails to record after 64GB. I’ve tried multiple Quality Genuine Brands such as the SanDisk 256GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I Memory Card. The problem occurs on all three of my cameras, regardless of the brand of SD Card. I’ve tested my SD Cards outside of the camera and they all perform perfectly storing and retrieving data at their full capacity. The camera stops recording totally at 64GB +/- and sometimes the card disappears from the management interface and won’t come back until a camera reboot performed. See the attached photo to see the actual capacity the camera stops being able to store video to the SD Card.I’ve been fighting this issue for about 6 months, troubleshooting, buying SD cards and even purchasing a replacement camera just to find out it’s not supported properly by the camera. Highly disappointed!Hopefully you won’t realize the camera has the same issue when you need video for an investigation like I did!I expect better from Amcrest and have been using their products for nearly 10 years (around the time they launched.)
