2020 will be the year known for bringing about digital disruption to the world. This disruption could be viewed as something the events industry needed, although not wanted, and virtual events has raised additional challenges for sponsorship and exhibition success.
eTechSuite conducted a survey in June 2020 among prospective and existing sponsors and exhibitors that identified 80% were concerned about the limited opportunities to network and engage with delegates in the virtual event space with 78% indicating their main objective was to strengthen relationships with existing and prospective clients.

At Aventri, we acted quickly back in March to secure partnerships with leading virtual event providers to provide a solution to our customers who had canceled events due to COVID. Then, over the last few months we took the time to develop and build our own virtual event platform in house that filled a gap in the market and met the needs of our customers.
One thing that was discovered over these past few months is that virtual and digital experiences are a new territory for many meeting and event professionals. Helping your marketing team put on monthly webinars is not the same as pivoting your in-person conference online.

It is safe to say the global pandemic that struck the world in 2020 ruined almost everyone’s plans. Organizers had no other choice but to cancel events they planned for months, even years, to comply with the health and safety protocols. Since physical contact is limited, some events found a way to continue by being held online.
Non-profit organizations like the Washington Tourism Alliance (WTA) pivot their conference events virtually using event management technology. Although this is different from what they are used to, they share how it benefited the organization.
