SGM Light 🇩🇰

📍 Aarhus, Denmark
🏢 Founded 1975
🌍 IP66-Rated Architectural & Touring LED

Company Overview

SGM Light (headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark) fundamentally disrupted the lighting industry by committing entirely to IP65/IP66 weatherproofing long before it was an industry standard. While other manufacturers were building fragile indoor lights that required massive, ugly plastic domes for outdoor use, SGM engineered incredibly sleek, naked LED fixtures that could operate flawlessly in torrential rain, snow, and desert sandstorms.

Under the leadership of legendary lighting designer Peter Johansen (the original founder of Martin Professional), SGM transitioned to a 100% LED product line. Their flagship P-5 and G-Spot series became absolute staples for massive outdoor architectural illumination, bridge lighting, and open-air music festivals.

SGM fixtures are highly distinct visually; they are completely sealed, utilize a proprietary internal dehumidification system to prevent condensation on the lenses, and are universally trusted for permanent outdoor installations in the harshest climates on earth.

Core Technologies

💧
Patented Dehumidification
When a hot fixture cools down outside, condensation forms inside the lens, ruining the optics. SGM invented an active, internal micro-dehumidifier that constantly removes moisture from the sealed fixture, ensuring perfect optical clarity in any weather.
🧊
Thermal Management
SGM fixtures are engineered as massive heat sinks. They dissipate the extreme heat of the LEDs through the actual metal chassis of the fixture, allowing them to remain completely sealed against dust and water while running at maximum brightness.
📐
Interchangeable Lens Ecosystem
Rather than forcing users to buy a tight beam fixture and a wide wash fixture, SGM wash lights feature rapid, magnetic, interchangeable holographic lenses, allowing a rental house to change the beam angle of a light in 10 seconds.

Featured Solutions

P-5 / P-6 LED Wash
The undisputed king of outdoor architectural wash lighting. An insanely bright, low-profile, IP66-rated LED floodlight utilized to paint massive skyscrapers, bridges, and festival stages in deep, saturated color.
G-Spot Moving Head
The world’s first true IP65-rated LED moving head profile. It proved to the industry that a complex automated fixture with rotating gobos and framing shutters could survive uncovered in a torrential rainstorm.
Q-8 Strobe/Wash
A massively powerful hybrid fixture. It combines the duties of an outdoor architectural floodlight with an insanely aggressive, high-speed concert strobe light, pixel-mapped for complex eye-candy effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IP65 and IP66 on an SGM fixture?
IP65 means the fixture is protected against low-pressure water jets (like rain). IP66 is a stricter rating meaning the fixture can withstand powerful, high-pressure water jets from any direction. SGM builds to the IP66 standard, meaning they can survive violent storms and aggressive pressure washing.
Why does a sealed light need a dehumidifier?
Air naturally contains humidity. When a fixture is manufactured and sealed, some moisture is trapped inside. When the light gets hot during a show and cools down rapidly at night, that moisture turns into fog on the inside of the glass lens. SGM’s patented active dehumidifier constantly scrubs this moisture out, keeping the lens perfectly clear.
Who is Peter Johansen?
Peter Johansen is a legendary figure in the lighting industry. He originally founded Martin Professional in the 1980s, creating the modern moving head market. He later took over SGM and pivoted them to be the pioneers of 100% LED, 100% waterproof fixtures.
