Why is Hanwha replacing Samsung cameras?

Hanwha Group (a massive South Korean conglomerate) officially acquired Samsung Techwin from Samsung in 2014. They continued to use the ‘Samsung’ brand name for a few years during the transition, but have since completely rebranded to Hanwha Techwin (and now Hanwha Vision).

What is ‘Edge AI’ and why is it important?

Normally, cameras send ‘dumb’ video to a massive server, and the server analyzes it to find a person. ‘Edge AI’ means the camera has a supercomputer chip built inside it. The camera itself analyzes the video and only sends data when it finds a threat, saving massive amounts of network bandwidth and server costs.

Are Hanwha cameras NDAA compliant?

Yes. This is a massive selling point for Hanwha in the United States. Because they do not use restricted Chinese silicon or manufacturing, their entire core lineup is fully NDAA compliant for use in US federal and military installations.
