The Focusrite feels better
I had a Focusrite prior to this UA Volt and there are just a few things that the Volt does worse.1. The lights are irritating as anything. The constant flickering monitor light that you can’t switch off is constantly in your face, so if you have this guy sat on your desk, you better get used to it. Also, the random colours of the other lights is just confusing. Why is one light blue and another light red and another light yellow? From a visual point of view, it’s just messy. Focusrite have nice rings around the knobs whereas here the whole button lights up and in a dark room is really way too bright.2. The build doesn’t feel as hefty and the knobs and buttons feel cheaper. It doesn’t have that satisfying weight behind the volume knob for example and the outer case feels cheaper.3. Why does it need an additional power cable? The Focusrite ran one single USB C for power and input/output. This for some reason needs both so it takes up x2 USB slots on your computer.4. The buttons and dials are too condensed and sized questionably. The volume knob that controls headphone volume is tiny compared to the monitor dial and fiddly when trying to adjust it and your fingers hit the bigger monitor knob. It’s just annoying. Why aren’t they the same size?5. It looks worse in real life than the product shots. The outer box looks like a really nice brushed warm steel in the fancy promo photography, however it real life it’s a lot paler and whiter. Nowhere near as high end as you’d expect.

Clean signal/ recording on a budget
Clean signal, the vintage button/mode has a nice touch to it and a warmth to the audio… very good equipment for a budget interface. I needed to replace my old interface, this was the perfect replacement and the plugins that come with it is pretty decent as well. I’m happy with the volt. I went with this one because I have a rack compressor and an Eq mixer, if not I would’ve gotten the 476 just to play around with the built in compressor. Other than that… it does its job.

Great product out of the box. Best level up interface for anyone trying to move past their first focus rite. Comes with awesome plug-ins, although installing those plug-ins will have you jumping page to page for a while on the internet. 4 stars because it could use more head room for the mains.
