ON REFLECTION I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN NO
wow wow wow and more wows, I LOVE THIS LIGHT, arrived on time, went to work straight away on a shoot and the colour and ranges and everything even the SFX get you thinking on how you can use this light more, but like all lighting its only as good as the person that operates it and who knows lighting, if you do then with is a must have bit of kit, so much so I bought the creative colour kit and the documentary kit just to have in my bag and now looking at the larger range in the Rotolight series, the company Rotolight is a pleasure to deal with I have ordered direct from their site. Brilliant.UPDATE:Well since buying this I have time to test it in the field, is it a great light, umm sort of, but in my opinion you would need at least three of these, we had a massive over heating problem with batteries and they actually leaked on set, not good, it went back to the company, they fixed, it came back, fourth day on set, batteries over heated again and one exploded, we needed lights so we had a speedy delivery from another supplier of a different make and we ran the lights at the same length of time with out problem and to be honest with you just as good, and a lot cheaper, the circular light means a nice light great to for eye catching, in my opinion, but again kit is what you are happy using, for me the NEO now sits in its case and never sees daylight. Waste of money, but I am only a small person in a huge world of likes and dislikes in the video world, like I said to someone one recently, try mine if you like it buy it if not, get something else, for me the NEO is fiddly, does not light bright enough on its own, unless in very dark places then passable, I bought for ease on locations it over heats, the front plastic that holds the gel in is a pain as it keeps falling out when you move the light around, Perhaps I had a duff unit, I don’t know, but as soon as I got the unit back from Rotolight customer care fell off the planet, up to that point they had been good. If it had been me I would have done a follow up call, and given me the customer chance to explain if the problem is still happening and I was happy, arguably I could have called them but I am too busy to start chasing duff equipment, I need to shoot, not spend hours on the phone, or emailing back and forth. As many of the Youtube professionals that use this unit say, you have to be happy with your equipment, for the price there is better, there is more robust and with out all the extra charges for add ons.

Bright Lightweight Light for Video
This is an utterly fantastic light. While you would need a bunch of these to light a whole scene, you can light a head shot for an interview or portrait with just one Neo and a reflector. The dimmer and color temperature dials allow you to match almost any lighting; at it’s warmest is has a golden tone of sunrise which is great for faking sunlight through a window. The light is extremely bright so I use both of the included diffusers at once – the softbox could be a nice addition. Incredibly, it casts a nice even shadow, something that LED arrays don’t always do very nicely.Warning – The on-off switch on the back is very easy to bump even while it’s packed in the included case. It’s best to just remove the batteries before putting it away. I’ve taken it out after traveling to a location shoot to find it already shining bright.Beside the switch, I’m dinging it a star for the absurd price. If you need portable and convenient lighting that is highly effective, this is the light for you, but if you can put up with standard incandescent studio lighting, there are many brighter and less expensive options to be had.

Good but limited
This is my primary light as a video journalist and I chose it because I can use AA batteries as a backup. It’s good, very bright, but has several drawbacks. There’s no easy way to tilt it, you need to add on some accessories. It swallows AA batteries like you wouldn’t believe and they get very hot. When using AA batteries it also doesn’t go as bright. In the end I bought a cheap adaptor on eBay so I can use a Sony BPU battery and power it through the DC power at 14V. This is the ideal solution for me as it lasts hours now and is full brightness. Shame Rotolight don’t do an official adaptor.

It is useful indoors as a continuous light so you can see …
This is a very flexible light in many ways. The only slight downside is that it’s not all that bright; it would never replace a flash in daylight. It is useful indoors as a continuous light so you can see what you will get in your final images. I have used this on a family studio shoot alongside 4 strobes. There was a poorly light part of the image in between the two key lights; I used this on the floor just to fill that shadows a touch.

Insgesamt gut
Nach anfänglicher Skepsis und wegen des doch sehr hohen Preises habe ich mir die NEO nun doch geleistet.Man darf natürlich keine Wunder erwarten.

The Industry Leader In LED Lighting & Functionality
The most impressive LED lighting i’ve ever used. The lighting is fully continious for video and has the best functionality i’ve ever seen on an LED light – Colour mode dials to match white balance, cinema film fx like fire, lightning, tv and siren as well as the usual dimming controls. They’re super bright and come with filters to change colour or damped the LED effect, as well as a fade up and down function which is really useful. In terms of build quality and deign you can’t fault these lights, you absolutely get what you pay for. Easily the most versatile and professional lighting units i’ve ever used, you can tell why their an industry leader and used on set at Pinewood.

Gutes Licht, nicht so tolle Blitzschuhhalterungg
Super Licht, sehr gut einstellbar.

Small and Powerful!
The Rotolight NEO is an amazing light. It’s great for photos or video. I’ve used it for both. I’ve used it as a fill light for interviews while using window light as a key. I’ve used it for a key light with portraits. The ability to change the color temperature and dim it makes it super versatile and able to match any ambient light in your scene. Adding to its functionality is the fact that it can run on AA batteries or the included power cable. Throw in a couple rechargeable AA’s, attach it to the end of a monopod and you have an extremely effective, small, and lightweight location light. The light includes a nice bag that will hold gels, 12 AA batteries, and the power cable. I like this light so much I just bought a second. Next on my list is the softbox and some more gels.

Probably a good video light, but not a good photography light.
This light is actually kind of neat, I love that you can easily adjust both the brightness and color with a dial, how cool is that? It also has some cool effects in which you can make the light flicker like a fireplace and various other options. Three big problems I have with this light, (1) it’s not nearly bright enough to compensate for even minimal ambient light, (2) although there are those that tout this light as creating a beautiful light, I thought the light was quite harsh and I also didn’t like the quality or color of the light, lastly (3) $400 for a light with this little output is just a ripoff, because its only going to work in the just the right environments. The only reason I gave this light 3 stars was because of the quality of the build, the options and controls, and perhaps as a videographer light. I would suggest you not buy this light for photography.
