The latest Plug and Play technology allows for simple installation, even for the inexperienced user. Numerous unique features as well as RME’s robust drivers enable a quick, efficient and comfortable operation of the Digiface USB. Its small size, weight and bus-powered operation make the Digiface USB extremely versatile and useful. It could even serve as simple headphone amp for mobile use. |
The Digiface USB is an extremely compact & portable digital audio interface with 4 optical ADAT / SPDIF I/Os, and an analog high-quality line/phones output via 6.3 mm TRS jack. Continuing the legacy of RME‘s famous HDSP Digiface, a triple ADAT I/O interface with phones and PCI interface, Digiface USB simplifies connection with USB 2, does not need an external power supply, and even adds another optical I/O, resulting in 32 channels input and output each when using ADAT optical. |
The analog output hosts channels 33/34, and can be used freely thanks to TotalMix FX, RME‘s routing and monitoring solution that knows nearly no limits in routing and mixing (the Digiface USB does not include FX). |
TotalMix
Like all the latest RME interfaces, the Digiface USB also includes the powerful digital real-time mixer TotalMix FX. It allows for practically unlimited mixing and routing operations, with all inputs and playback channels simultaneously, to any hardware outputs. The Digiface USB does not have a DSP, so there are no FX available. Still it includes a dedicated Control Room section with Talkback, Main/Phones, fader groups, mute groups, complete remote controllability via Mackie or OSC protocol, and much more.

In conjunction with the TotalMix software, this, simply, works a treat!I upgraded to the RME Digiface from a 12-year-old RME Babyface which had served me well over the years. What I loved about the Babyface was that it had ADAT in and out enabling an additional 8 channels of 24bit/48K audio, giving me a total of 10 channels. The butter on the bread, so to speak, was RME’s TotalMix FX software which, in my experience, is a lovely virtual mixer interface to work with compared to, say, Focusrite’s Control interface. As I wanted to expand the number of inputs and outputs for recording and playback (I have three 8-channel ADAT devices), upgrading to the Digiface was a no-brainer mainly due to the functionality of RME’s TotalMix software. The reason for only four stars is that the USB input is on the same side as the headphones output – it would be much neater, in my opinion, if the USB jack was on the same side as the digital inputs/outputs.

Perfect 32 channel interface!Been looking for an interface for my used Yamaha M7CL-48 Board that came with two ADAT cards. This little interface is a lot bigger in performance than physical size. Perfect for my needs. I now have a full blown 32 channel, 16 bus studio at a reasonable price!

Strictly USB 2.0As much as i know this is a great product I had to return mine. This strictly runs on USB 2.0.I would be glad to re purchase one if they make this work in USB 3.0 or USB type C.

Amazing sound, low latency and routing possibilities (digital patch bay)Amazing sound, low latency and routing possibilities (digital patch bay). At home with up to 32 analog I/Os, or on the road as a simple headphones’ amp. Not compatible with iOS devices.

USB-powered RME interface with 4 ADAT I/O? YES.It does the job, it’s perfectly stable, and it uses the newer RME “Madiface” drivers, which allows you to use it simultaneously with any other recent RME interface (including ADI-2 Pro FS series) in a single DAW host software project. Since it has 4 inputs and outputs, you can get up to 16 inputs and 16 outputs at 88.2 or 96 kHz if your ADAT converters support S/Mux 2, and 8 inputs and outputs at 176.4 or 192 kHz if your converter supports S/Mux 4.The headphones output has terrible quality, so don’t be fooled by the marketing which says “low impedance line output of highest quality”, it’s just terrible. If you want a USB-powered headphones amp, do NOT get this unit for that purpose, it’s just a thrown-in feature in this one.
