The Impact of the Artificial Intelligence Law on the Events Sector
The EU’s Artificial Intelligence Regulation, a historic piece of legislation that was supported widely in the European Parliament and pushed during the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second part of 2023, was passed by the European Parliament on March 13, 2024. By limiting the use of biometric identification systems, for instance, the Artificial Intelligence law protects citizens’ rights while positioning Europe as a leader in technological progress.
Real-world example: Spain’s implementation
On May 15, 2024, Spain’s Council of Ministers approved the Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which builds upon and extends the Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA), which was released in 2020. This innovative approach, which is tailored to the most recent developments in technology, is a component of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR). Additionally, the Digital Spain Agenda 2026 includes the development of AI, emphasizing its cross-cutting significance for changing the production model and fostering economic expansion in Spain.
This approach will be put into action between 2024 and 2025.
Protecting consumer rights and encouraging responsible innovation are the primary goals of the Artificial Intelligence Law, which aims to guarantee that the application of AI is carried out in an ethical and open manner. The goal of the Act is to provide a regulatory framework that guarantees the utilization of AI’s advantages without jeopardizing users’ rights and privacy.
This regulation was created in response to the growing concern over personal data security and privacy in the digital era. Clear guidelines limiting the collection, processing, and use of data are necessary given the growing usage of AI. This is especially important in settings like events where a lot of personal data is handled.
