Description
Don’t let the classic analog mixer design fool you—the StudioLive AR16c was built to record. Featuring a pristine analog front end with 12 high-gain XMAX mic preamps and an 18×4, 24-bit, 96 kHz, USB-C-compatible USB 2. 0 audio interface, the StudioLive AR16c’s hybrid design makes it simple to mix and record. Add in a musical 3-band analog EQ, mic/line boost for low-level sources including vintage synths, all-new digital effects with rich reverbs and lush delays, Bluetooth connectivity, and a stereo SD recorder. . . and you have a mixing and recording powerhouse that fulfills the needs of both modern musicians and content creators.

Just great but …
Amazon offered an open box discount on Presonus StudioLive AR16c. Having been quite satisfied with Presonus’s HP 60 and Faderport 16 in the recent past, I went for the AR16c instead of Mackie, Zoom and Behringer options.Receiving the item 8 days later, I find out the included software (Studio One v5 Artist and Capture) have already been registered and the rack-mount accessories are missing. With Amazon’s assistance (and waiting an hour on a long distance call – my call is important to them (!)), Presonus Technical Support reset the registration but I’m still waiting for the missing accessories. The mixer itself is fine. The preamps sound good and the extra headroom is noticeable. The easy SD 2-track recording and the USB multitrack computer recording via Capture are the features of value here. There’s also what the manual labels a ‘Super Channel’ enabling connections via RCA, 1/8″ TRS and Bluetooth. The 16 preset FXs are nothing to brag about though and quite a number of them are useless. Reverb only with some control parameters would have been more useful in my mind. EQ does the trick but the absence of any channel compressor is the real disappointment here. It is possible to insert outboard effects on the two first channels only but it’s kind of a drag to have to do it that way and defeats the all-included approach of the StudioLive mixer. An added plus is the inclusion of Studio One v5 Artist which is attracting a lot of positive comments these days.On the surface, the fact of having two AUX SENDs seems to be an added bonus for this range of mixers but note that both of them are mono, meaning that you need to use both is you want a single stereo monitor mix, for example. It would have been nice if when pushed, like the FX selection knob, each of these AUX SENDs pots could switch from mono to stereo.I feel overall this is another excellent device from Presonus as it does most of what you’d expect from a mixer but it just misses the mark at being the perfect tool.ADDENDUM: I am happy to report that Amazon.ca credited my account as compensation for the missing accessories. Client satisfied. Case closed.

Professional Audio Recording on a Budget!
I had been making music in garage punk bands since the early 90s, but was never able to figure out how or get the tools to record multitrack audio for mastering. That was until I bought a StudioLive AR16c 18-channel mixer. With this sweet digital/analog hybrid mixer, I can record and edit in Studio One and master music. Indeed, with the StudioLive AR16c, I literally have no more excuses to not make music.

great features in an unreliable product
The media could not be loaded.
I’ve owned two Presonus Studio live mixers. Both died very quickly. The first was the AR22 model. It lasted 15 months. The second was the upgraded AR16c model. It lasted about 18 months. Presonus has very unreliable components in their hardware. Their tech support isn’t helpful at all and they won’t look at their stuff unless you pay them a $250 bench fee. I am flabbergassed that I got two short lived mixers in a row. I did like the features and sound but it’s a short lived pleasure. I have launched another inquiry to Presonus about fixing the problems with the second mixer. I know that they won’t care. I would guess that they have a long line of ex customers that never got their mixers replaced or fixed. How can they continue this way? Look elsewhere if you want a reliable mixer and good customer service. Presonus does NOT stand behind their products.
