L-Acoustics A Series installed at Ultra Super Club in Makassar for live bands and EDM

Background and context

Ultra Super Club, a 1,000-capacity venue on the Tanjung Bunga waterfront in Makassar, Indonesia, has opened with a new sound system based on the L-Acoustics A Series. The club began operations with a soft launch in November 2025, followed by a grand opening the following month.

Makassar, the main urban centre in eastern Indonesia and a key gateway to Sulawesi, has seen rapid growth in nightlife and entertainment venues. Ultra Super Club was conceived to serve both early-evening live music and late-night electronic dance music (EDM), placing specific demands on its audio design.

The operators required a system capable of handling live bands with clarity and detail, while also delivering the high-impact low-frequency performance that club patrons in Indonesia typically expect on the dancefloor.

Key announcement

The audio installation was led by PT Gracia Auvindo, an L-Acoustics Certified Partner in Indonesia responsible for system design, commissioning and verification. Systems integrator Thomas Rulyanto handled the physical installation, with design support from L-Acoustics application engineer Jufri Price.

According to PT Gracia Auvindo, the club’s management evaluated several options before commissioning the system. They visited multiple reference venues, including Jakarta nightclub NOYA X 80 PROOF, another PT Gracia Auvindo project featuring an L-Acoustics system, to compare different brands in real-world conditions.

The club’s main dancefloor measures approximately 23 by 26 metres with a 12-metre ceiling height. To meet coverage and output requirements, the design uses L-Acoustics A15i as the primary loudspeaker, chosen over the smaller A10 model for its extended low-frequency performance.

Each main left and right array consists of four A15i cabinets: three A15i Focus and one A15i Wide per side. The arrays are driven by three LA4X amplified controllers. Low-frequency reinforcement is provided by eight KS28 subwoofers powered by two LA12X amplified controllers, configured to deliver strong, full-body bass across the dancefloor.

Additional coverage is supplied by two X12 loudspeakers for out-fill and four X8 units as front-fill to maintain level and clarity for the audience nearest the stage. Signal flow is intentionally simple, with the mixing console feeding directly into the amplified controllers, which handle all necessary DSP processing.

Industry impact

One of the more complex aspects of the project was mechanical rather than electronic. Ultra Super Club’s ceiling structure required all loudspeaker clusters to be flown from existing steel beams, limiting the flexibility of hang positions.

To address this, PT Gracia Auvindo used L-Acoustics Soundvision modelling software to design coverage and refine the system layout in advance. While the ideal rigging points proposed in the model did not always align with the available beam locations, on-site adjustments of up to 50cm were made with reference to the simulation, allowing the team to maintain the intended coverage and tonal balance.

The Soundvision data, including projected power consumption and infrastructure requirements, was shared with the venue’s owners before installation. This helped the client plan electrical and structural provisions ahead of time and reduced uncertainty around system demands.

The installation at Ultra Super Club adds to a growing list of L-Acoustics projects in Indonesia, including previous nightclub and theatre deployments. It reflects a wider trend in the region toward more technically specified club systems, designed to support multi-format programming rather than focusing narrowly on a single genre.

Why this matters

For venue operators and integrators, the Ultra Super Club project illustrates how mid-size touring-grade loudspeakers, such as the L-Acoustics A Series, are being deployed in fixed-install nightclubs where flexibility is required.

The design shows how one system can cover both live bands and EDM without separate rigs, relying on careful modelling, subwoofer configuration and straightforward routing to keep operation manageable for staff.

It also highlights the increasing use of pre-installation simulation to solve practical issues like fixed rigging points and to provide owners with clear expectations on performance and infrastructure. As clubs in emerging markets invest in more sophisticated production, projects of this type may become a reference for similar multi-use entertainment spaces.
