L-Acoustics Whole-Home Audio Transforms Luxury Putney Residence

L-Acoustics Whole-Home Audio Transforms Luxury Putney Residence

In South-West London’s Putney district, an audiophile brief for a single 5.1 media room has evolved into a large-scale whole-home audio installation built entirely on L-Acoustics technology. Home integration specialist Cinergy has turned a 7,000 square-metre luxury residence into a coherent audio ecosystem covering around 80% of the property, from a Dolby Atmos media room and recording studio to living spaces, library and kitchen.

Whole-Home Audio Ecosystem For Luxury London Residence

The project began when Cinergy introduced the homeowner to L-Acoustics at the manufacturer’s Highgate showroom. Impressed by the brand’s sound quality, the client expanded the original media room concept into a comprehensive, multiroom deployment using a single loudspeaker brand throughout.

The resulting system is designed to support both everyday listening and more critical, immersive experiences. Spaces across several floors are now equipped for individual enjoyment, family listening and larger social gatherings, with the same sonic character maintained from room to room and extending into the garden in the next project phase.

According to Cinergy founder Tom Jarvis, the owner’s remit focused on audio performance rather than video, leading to a main media room that is dedicated to sound only, with no television installed. Consistency across private areas, party zones and outdoor spaces was another priority, achieved by specifying L-Acoustics products throughout.

Soundvision Design Tool Underpins System Engineering

To ensure predictable performance and accurate coverage, Cinergy relied on the L-Acoustics Soundvision 3D sound design and mapping software. The tool was used to model the rooms, select appropriate loudspeakers and optimally position them for the desired listening experience.

Jarvis notes that Soundvision allowed the team to engineer a system that closely mirrors what the client heard during the initial showroom demonstration. The software-based approach reduced guesswork and supported detailed planning for both visible and discreet loudspeaker locations.

Main Living Room System Combines Syva Presence With Discreet Surrounds

The primary ground floor living room showcases L-Acoustics Syva colinear loudspeakers as a visual and acoustic focal point. Standing approximately 1.5 metres tall, the Syva units are paired with Syva subwoofers to deliver a powerful yet refined two-channel zone.

This core stereo configuration is extended via an integrated network of five X4i in-ceiling speakers, two surface-mount X4r speakers and two SB10r subwoofers, one built into the ceiling and one recessed into a wall. The additional loudspeakers can be brought in or out of play depending on how the room is used, giving the family flexibility to scale the sound field for background listening or more enveloping playback.

Library, TV Room And Kitchen Diner Receive Tailored Audio System

The sophisticated audio experience continues in the library, where a 2.1 system based on Syva provides focused listening. An ultra-compact SB10i subwoofer is hidden within the joinery to preserve the room’s design while still delivering low-frequency support.

Adjacent to the library, the TV room features a 5.1 layout using X4i in-ceiling loudspeakers for the rear surround channels and an SB10 subwoofer, also installed within the furniture. While video takes centre stage here, the audio remains consistent with the rest of the home’s L-Acoustics ecosystem.

In the kitchen diner, four X4r in-ceiling loudspeakers and a single SB10i subwoofer provide even coverage for one of the home’s most-used social spaces. The system is designed for both casual background music and more engaging listening during gatherings.

Top Floor Media Room And Studio Feature Dolby Atmos Configuration

The flagship element of the project is located on the top floor, where Cinergy has combined a professional-grade media room with an integrated recording studio. The main room is configured as a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos system using L-Acoustics X Series loudspeakers and SB10r low-frequency support.

Seven X4 loudspeakers are deployed behind a fabric wall to cover the left, centre and right front channels, with four X4r loudspeakers handling surround and height duties. A single SB10r subwoofer completes the system, while two LA2Xi amplified controllers provide power and processing for the loudspeakers.

The attached studio space required bespoke engineering. To accommodate the client’s preferred desk position while maintaining correct loudspeaker placement, Cinergy reworked the rear right loudspeaker location by integrating it into a thickened desk leg. The recording studio itself also uses a 2.1 L-Acoustics configuration, with the amplifier mounted within the same custom leg structure.

Control Platform Integration Delivers Unified User Experience

Given the scale and complexity of the installation, intuitive operation was a key requirement. Cinergy integrated the L-Acoustics ecosystem with the Control4 platform, enabling centralised and room-level control of source selection, volume and zone grouping.

This approach allows the homeowner and family members to move between rooms while maintaining a coherent audio environment or to tailor each space independently for specific activities, from focused studio work to background sound for entertaining.

Future Garden Entertainment System Extends L-Acoustics Outdoors

With the interior systems in daily use, Cinergy is now extending the project outside. The next phase will bring L-Acoustics loudspeakers into the garden as the core of a dedicated outdoor entertainment system, maintaining the same sonic signature beyond the walls of the property.

Jarvis reports that the family is heavily engaged with the new infrastructure, spending significant time listening to and playing music across the residence. For L-Acoustics, the project underscores the migration of its professional loudspeaker technology from touring and installed venues into high-end residential environments, while for Cinergy it demonstrates the role of pro-grade tools and products in delivering consistent, whole-home audio experiences.
