L-Acoustics A Series Transforms Moyo Drymades Beach Club Audio
Moyo Drymades, a Tulum-inspired beachfront venue on Albania’s Ionian coast, has installed a new L-Acoustics sound system designed to deliver both discreet daytime coverage and high-impact late-night performance. The system, supplied and integrated by L-Acoustics Certified Partner Prosound, combines A Series and X Series loudspeakers with weather-resistant enclosures to meet the challenging conditions of a seaside, open-air site.
Beachfront Venue Balances Wellness Programming and Nighttime Event Production
Located directly on the pebble beach of Drymades, the venue operates as a restaurant, wellness retreat and beach club by day, before turning into a stage for international DJ sets, live performances and large-scale events after dark. Improved regional access since the opening of the Llogara tunnel in 2024 has helped make Moyo Drymades one of the busiest destinations on the Albanian Riviera, increasing pressure on its technical infrastructure to perform reliably throughout extended operating hours.
The audio brief demanded a single system capable of operating in two distinct modes. During the day, sound must sit low and warm across the restaurant, loungers and wellness zones, supporting conversation and relaxation without dominating the environment. At night, the same system needs to deliver full-range weight, headroom and controlled coverage for dancefloor-level sound pressure on an open beachfront without indoor walls to contain energy.
Prosound, an Albania-based systems integrator with experience in premium hospitality, entertainment and large-scale events, was engaged to manage acoustic design, installation, commissioning and system optimisation. System design was led by Endrit Veleshnja, with installation headed by Henri Balla.
Audio System Design Uses A15 Wide and KS21 for Flexible Performance
According to Prosound, Moyo Drymades required powerful and impactful low frequencies, high definition across the full spectrum and consistent coverage across all audience areas. The sound system needed to support background music and DJ programming during the week while scaling to substantially higher sound pressure levels for weekend events.
The main system is built around two hangs of two L-Acoustics A15 Wide loudspeakers, flown on either side of the performance area. Low-frequency reinforcement is provided by four KS21 subwoofers, groundstacked as two units per side beneath the arrays. The A Series provides clarity and directivity suited to both low-level operation and high-energy electronic music, while the KS21 subwoofers deliver the headroom required to project bass across an open-air site.
Coverall coverage is extended beyond the central dancefloor via eight X12 loudspeakers deployed as satellite and fill positions in the dining, lounge and perimeter zones. Six SB18 IIi subwoofers are distributed across these areas to maintain consistent low-frequency energy beyond the main performance zone. In the DJ booth, monitoring is handled by two X15 HiQ loudspeakers paired with two SB18 IIi subwoofers, positioned either side of the console.
System drive and processing are provided by two LA12X and three LA4X amplified controllers. Prosound installed the controllers in custom-built enclosures designed to protect against rain, direct moisture and the beach environment, while ensuring adequate ventilation and ease of access for servicing.
Weather-Resistant Enclosure Design Addresses Coastal Venue Requirement
The location of Moyo Drymades directly on the sand, open to the sky and the sea, created significant environmental constraints for the audio system. Loudspeakers are exposed to sea spray, salt air, humidity and rain throughout the operating season.
To address these conditions, Prosound specified L-Acoustics enclosures with IP55 weather protection ratings. A15 Wide, KS21 and SB18 IIi models were selected for their ability to withstand harsh coastal environments without requiring additional weatherproofing measures. This approach aimed to deliver long-term reliability and consistent performance while keeping the visual and structural footprint aligned with the venue’s design.
Soundvision Modeling Optimizes Coverage across Irregular Beach Layout
Moyo Drymades occupies an irregular beach footprint rather than a rectangular indoor room, with dancefloor, dining, lounge and perimeter areas all requiring tailored coverage. Loudspeaker positions are dictated by the physical realities of the shoreline and architectural structures rather than conventional stage or ceiling grid layouts.
Prosound used L-Acoustics Soundvision software to model sound pressure level distribution, system angles and audience areas across the venue prior to installation. The final system file defines the orientation of each of the eight X12 loudspeakers individually, assigning a specific site and azimuth angle to every fixture based on its role in the overall coverage plan.
This loudspeaker-by-loudspeaker approach allowed the integrator to balance the main dancefloor coverage against out-fill and front-fill zones, smoothing transitions between areas and identifying potential coverage gaps within the modeling environment rather than only after physical deployment. The result is intended to maintain even response whether guests are on the dancefloor, dining or relaxing at the venue perimeter.
Beach Club Establishes New Audio Reference on Albanian Riviera
Since going live, the new sound system at Moyo Drymades has been cited as a reference point for audio quality along the Albanian Riviera. Prosound reports consistently positive feedback from visiting engineers, artists and production teams, particularly regarding the balance between strong low-frequency impact and preserved mid and high-frequency detail at all operating levels.
Prosound notes that the system was engineered with sufficient headroom for peak nights while maintaining the directional control required for daily background and wellness programming. This combination enables the venue to transition between daytime and nighttime operating modes without compromising coverage or intelligibility.
Moyo Drymades resident DJ Tatu reports that guests notice the difference in sound as soon as the first track plays, highlighting that the balance of power and clarity delivered by the new system aligns with the venue’s original technical and experiential objectives and contributes to repeat visits.
The completed project underlines how weather-resistant loudspeaker technology, predictive system modeling and detailed installation planning can enable beach clubs and coastal venues to deliver festival-level sound while retaining the flexibility needed for multiuse hospitality operations.
