Power and USB nightmare.I’m a streamer and make YouTube videos. For the past several years I’ve been using my goXLR mini to connect my Shure SM7B to my PC and I’ve never had problems. It is truly plug and play and while the software is a bit “meh”, the mini just works and everyone loves my mic sound (even without a cloud lifter). So fast forward to today and I found the Rodecaster Pro 2. It features way more faders, dual USB interfaces for connecting multiple PCs, possibly better preamps with more noiseless gain available for my mic, and more inputs with individual headphone amps with independent volume control as well. It’s an absolute beast. But I read a lot of reviews both here and on YouTube and have clearly been issues. So it finally looked like the firmware/software was at a spot where the features were really coming into maturity a bit and I took the $699 plunge and ordered one. The next day the Pro 2 arrived and I was so excited to see about getting her set up. Well, I never got her to power on. Didn’t matter where I plugged it in, through my UPS with clean power, direct into the wall, with a separate USB C power supply, nothing. No power on, and then an electrical burning smell and even a little smoke from the area of the power input. No bueno, returned and ordered a second unit. Two days later, receive a second unit and this one powered right up. Got it setup and firmware updated immediately via Ethernet and then plugged in my mic and headphones and got those all set up. Now it came time to connect to my 2 PCs and I can not get USB 1 to connect to ANYTHING. Not with the supplied cable, a USB 2 to USB C cable, a USB 3 to USB C cable, anything at all. Not plugged into to either PC or my iPad Pro. It just won’t work at all. USB 2 input will connect to all of the above, using any of the cables I mentioned before. Tried to contact Rode customer service and it was very difficult to find a phone number as their website was somehow down the entire day. Like seriously? How convenient! The day I need support their entire website is gone. 504 bad gateway. Somehow I extracted a phone number and got in touch with a very friendly customer service guy and he was helpful and sorry that I was already on my second unit. We tried a few things and it really looked like USB 1 was just not working. So they wanted a hardware profile of my 2 PCs, which I sent in after some email instructions, and got an email back recommending that I try to connect to USB 1 via a USB hub as USB standards have some dubious implementations according to Rode. They explained that USB1 can connect to external storage devices as well as PCs and mobile devices so it is a bit different than USB 2’s interface, which I can almost understand.Just now I’m thinking “who ever heard of any of these sorts of problems?” USB just works. Well not in this case, apparently. So I found what looked like a nice USB hub on Amazon and waited another day for shipping to catch up to me and here I was trying it all again with renewed excitement. Same issues. Nothing connected to USB 1 with or without the hub, but everything works on USB 2 with or without the hub. So I’m stumped, and they haven’t responded to my latest email telling them about these new issues. So I’ll tell you what, this unit is $700, can’t connect to a PC properly and per reddit and buried reviews here on Amazon has a lot of USB issues. I’m just not happy. I don’t want to return it a second time and gamble another $700 on whether a third unit will work or not. I’m very frustrated and have had to reconnect my goXLR mini several times, which at least I know works. I even have the plastic dust shield coming in later today and I’m thinking it’s just all going back and I’m sticking with my goXLR mini with $700 back in my pocket. It’s not what I want to do but this unit just doesn’t seem well polished at all. Some great ideas, just not well implemented, and possibly cheaped out on something as simple as a USB C interface. So, not cool. I’m in customer service limbo here after several days, 2 units, a dust shield purchase, and a USB C hub I didn’t need or want in the first place and I still don’t have a working setup. Not what I expect from products in this price range that are supposed to be premium.P.S.: Can I also mention how odd it is for a piece of equipment to expect to connect to another device via USB C? Especially a PC? A Mac, ok I get it they love USB C, but what other device plugs in to USB C on a PC? You’ll always find a USB C to USB A cable used. Turns out that probably still works for the Rodecaster Pro 2 but they don’t supply that cable, only USB C to USB C. But they sure as heck will sell you any other cable you need at $20 a pop. Still wouldn’t help me, of course, because USB 1 on this unit won’t connect to a single thing regardless of cable type. Sigh…

Might be the best thing everI’m a huge tech person, and this was honestly my favorite item of 2022. From beginners to prosumers, the Rodecaster Pro 2 has something for every kind of creator. I used to spend lots of time EQing in post for my podcast to make it sound how I wanted. My first time using the Rodecaster Pro 2 I plugged in my EV Re20 and there was already an EQ profile built into the mixer. Pressed a few buttons, made some tweaks and it sounds like a high-end professional studio broadcast. Took less than 2 minutes. Just for fun I had my friend plug in a cheap $50 xlr mic and the Rodecaster EQ made it sound like a million bucks. The preamps are incredible for the price. You no longer need a cloud lifter for the Re20 or SM7B.And I haven’t even gotten to the customizable sound pads. I’ve had so much fun making soundboard bites, using voice effects, and uploading background music tracks that save me more time post production. I honestly can’t say too much about the pads because I haven’t even scratched the surface of its capability.Overall this machine is incredible. 10/10 would recommend. I would easily pay $200/$300 more for this device. For the price you can’t beat the performance.

The best Audio MixerThis product is great and perfected my audio productions. It really enhances my audio for my video productions. The good thing I love about this product is that I can record audio directly on this RodCaster Pro II. It has different interfaces and different ways to connect my microphones. More so, I can also direct my audio from computer to this device to my speaker. Great audio device.

It’s Outstanding! My SM7B sounds awesome now!I’m an aspiring YouTube content creator wanting to improve my sound quality. I took the plunge and purchased the Shure SM7B mic, Focusrite scarlet solo, and the cloudlifter. I wasn’t happy with raw sound quality of this setup, I had to apply a lot tweaking in adobe to make it sound “good” to my ears. My opinion of Good is obviously different than others so take this for what it’s worth. This tweaking was a lot of extra work in post.Tom Buck put out a video asking the question are cloudlifters and fetheads useless now it got my attention. I left a message on his channel and he responded and said I wouldn’t be disappointed with the sound quality of the Rodecaster II Pro. He was right! This thing is awesome! I love the sound of my SM7B now, I recorded a couple voice overs / video and I didn’t have to apply the editing in adobe. (Parametric EQ & multiband compressor settings)Yes this device isn’t cheap, nothing about it is. This is a really nice piece of equipment and I love it. They recently updated the firmware to include a routing tables to allow streamers and creators to tune our mixes however we want them. For example, while gaming I can have music coming over the Bluetooth line in, teamspeak audio on its own channel, specific gaming sounds on its own channel, YouTube on its own channel and my mic channel will only be sending my voice mixed with sound pads etc. this is really cool.I’m not a professional audio engineer nor do I have years of experience with this type of equipment, I’m a noob learning as I go.Improvements: my only complaint so fare is you can create a custom mic setting (which is awesome BTW) but you cannot reopen the setting to inspect/review the setting once you save it). This is a firmware oversight in my opinion that they will hopefully fix. The achieve functionality I mentioned above I plugged both USB channels into my computer. You may have to unplug something else like an external hard drive etc.All in all this is a great device, I love how my mic sounds, and the less work I have to do in Adobe is epic! Hopefully in the future I’ll try streaming and will have mastered this device, second reason I wanted this this. Your mileage may vary, so fare with ride on Rodecaster Pro II has been a blast!

Rodecaster Pro II doesn’t react well with certain monitor speakers or just YAMAHA HS5It appears Rodecaster Pro II doesn’t react well with certain monitor speakers or just YAMAHA HS5. Combining these two devices creates none stop noise much like a vacuum just not as loud but “clearly” too noticeable. I would strongly advised not purchasing/mixing these two together unless Rode acknowledge and provide fix or prove otherwise of this only being a one-off issue. I’ve tried two different Rodecaster Pro II and the problem exist with both using YAMAHA HS5. I have two other Podcast devices Zoom PodTrak P8 and Tascam Mixcast 4 as well as a number of audio interfaces and my YAMAHA HS5 works just fine. So after testing on 7 devices I’m much sure the speaker aren’t the issue. I’ve tried two other sets of speakers with no issues using the Rodecaster Pro II. YAMAHA HS series are common known monitor speakers so I hope Rode will look into this. It would be nice to know if anyone successfully have these two devices with no or same issues.

WOW! What an upgrade!I loved the Rodecaster Pro. The Rodcaster Pro II has a big bump in feature set in a similar sized package. There is so much new and updated functionality that it can be a bit daunting. I don’t usually need the documentation too much. Definitely do need it now. The good news is that I have never seen a product with such a great documentation set wrapped so elegantly into a product web site.Improvements in connectors, connection types, Smart Pads, traditional and virtual controls, ergonomics, audio processing, effects, and more. It feels like this may be my last sound mixer.

Great product, not well packaged and assembly process seems like they don’t wear gloves.Horribly packaged. My box was dirty, damaged, the seal was broken, and the item had smudges on it. I suspected it has having been a returned item. As a result, I returned this item and purchased the same from another vendor. Same thing. Torn factory seal, dirty box and some smudges on the item. I expect something pristine new that was assembled cleanly and with care for 600 bucks. Rode needs to take more care in how they assemble and package these. At least for me they do.If yours looks gently used, it is probably new. The only item that had a firm seal on it was the USB cable. Everything else was open bag and twist tie. With all that said, I think it is a great product.

Great Product for Podcasters/ StreamersI bought this back when it was under pre-Order at another Store, they were taking so long to come I went on Amazon and found it would arrive by end of release date month. I then bought it from Amazon, I got an update saying it would arrive within 3 days after I bought it on the 19th if release month, I will say I was happy with knowing it would arrive much earlier than the date listed on the Amazon Page. I got my Rode Rodecaster pro II, this made me very happy so far, I will say this I do wish this had more Audio Routing, more like my GOXLR.Pros1. Love being able to record without needing my PC2. 4 headphone jack inputs3. smaller size than the original4. More Faders than my GO XLR (full size)5. can be fully used with only a Good Portable battery6. Being able to use an External HDD directly plugged in to the device7. Being able to control OBS Scenes, allowing me to free up some of my Stream Deck8. Finally love being able to save each Show presets,CONS1. The plastic feel2. Audio Routing not being as good as I was hoping it would be after launch (I am glad that with Beta FW1.0.5, that it is here kind of)3. accessories not being cheap (I mean 49.99 for a plastic cover) I ended up 3d Printing my own, but that cover should be no more than 29.99 to 35.994. not having the Vesa Arm at Launch (I know this last one is a nit-pick), I ended up buying a single monitor arm from here. This is a great buy overall, not perfect yet, I would say this is a great buy if you are in the need for Audio Interface as of to Kind of a Stream Deck, Go XLR all in one.A MUST BUY, IMO

Best in class, and when put to work it passed! This tool is awesome and I can see it becoming the goto device for small business owners wanting to start a podcast for their business and enhance their online presence, because that is exactly what I am using it for.

Almost, but not quite. Ghost in the machine…Appears to be a real sharp looking cool device, amazing potential, but rather hard to use (because it can do so much probably). GoXLR setup takes minutes, this device will take hours to get right. It also appears this was not “new” but a prior return. Included items were not factory packaged. It did appear to be complete. It does NOT come with documentation (crazy for such an intricate device). They give you a QR code to scan for info, and that takes you not to anything helpful unless you want to buy a 2nd device. (Sales gimmick)That being said I’m returning it because of the ghost. There are pads that are far to sensitive. Tap on desk with index finger a foot away. Triggers a pad. Typing on keyboard sends device into a frenzy. And they dont offer replacement, I have to return for refund and repurchase. Bad policy, I asked for a replacement but they won’t do it. Downside for them is, I’m not likely to repurchase under the circumstances. Buyer beware. Expensive device, terrible service policies. Buy again? Maybe, I’ll wait for another year of firmware bug fixes.
