Innovative ideas, Hardware quality sub-par, Bad customer service!I ordered this camera to replace mine that has failed for the 2nd time after receiving a minor splash. The camera is reported to be waterproof to a certain depth. Mine have never been under wayer and the side door has always been closed as instructed. I sent my first one in after failure, and it took 6 weeks to get it back. It’s got to go all the way to China. When you use customer service, it seems the supposed “Team” is always out to lunch. Must be some really good food. It recently took a sprinkle while it was mounted to the top of my car and again it’s malfunctioned. It’s cheaper and faster just to order the 4k version and install my 360 module on it.The camera, when it works is astonishing. Very innovative design that lets you capture your surroundings like you’ve never been able to. I use the 360 version almost exclusively. The videos you can create are amazing. If you want to see an astonishing example of what this thing can do, check out some of my ski videos on Youtube. My channel name is Jus’ Gibs. Really ground breaking camera and software!

Extremely versatile, easy to use, and portableThe media could not be loaded.

I used to have the Insta360 ONE X, but I always wished it could do more, like record in regular 4k and use an external microphone for better audio, and that it had a better screen with more options. Looks like Insta360 was listening ’cause they fused an action camera with their best 360 camera and a bunch of awesome features on top. Now, I can use my ONE R as a 360 camera, an action camera, or even as a vlogging camera with the tripod and external mic adapter. The 360 video is still very clean and the selfie stick gets completely removed with near-perfect stitching. One of my favourite features is the modular system that lets me swap out the lens with the 360 mod, 4k lens, or the 1-inch Leica sensor, which produces great quality video with excellent stabilisation. It’s noticeably better than the 4k lens. I can even point the viewfinder screen towards me so I can see what I’m recording. The mobile and desktop apps are very easy to use in re-framing 360 videos and creating special effects. I haven’t tested this, but the camera can also be used to livestream videos and as a webcam.Physically, the camera is very well-built and sturdy despite being made up of multiple parts. I wish the standard battery also had the mount built-in like the Boosted battery, but the mounting bracket is needed for that. I also really appreciate that it’s waterproof out of the box without an extra case.I’d recommend the ONE R to anyone who wants to create or learn 360 videos as well as regular/wide-angle videos with a single system and carry less equipment. The package is great value.

Obsessed with this cameraSo I also have the 360 lens for this camera, and just recently picked up the Leica 1-inch lens. Because sometimes I want a higher resolution, since this shoots higher res in 5.3K. Super useful when I want to digitally zoom into the footage (which I’ve been doing for dolly zooms). There’s a big improvement in low light – sunset shots and indoors shots are clearer and a lot less grainy. Since I almost always shoot with natural light, I appreciate being able to shoot in a wider variety of lighting situations now.Btw if you want to get “impossible” shots like the invisible selfie stick, you’ll need the 360 lens as well (the 1-inch lens doesn’t work for invisible selfie stick, and obviously it doesn’t shoot 360 either, it’s a wide lens)Favorite thing is how good the stabilization tech is for this camera. I’ve been getting hyperlapses where I can just walk forwards and the footage is super steady. Whereas other cameras I would need to use gimbals, this one I just put on a monopod/stick and can walk or run with it. The app is amazing as well as it does all the stabilizing + can also motion blur the footage for a quick edit on the phone.

The PERFECT action camera!!!!!!!!I am a first time Oner user, and the outcome of this 360-degree camera impressed me. I can personally say that I love the camera a lot. The small design is quite simple and easy to handle. It designed with a straightforward control system make me have no difficulties in understanding. The camera has advanced stabilization performance, and they called it”Flowstate stabilization.”I was worried about the stabilization. However, I used the camera during the weekend biking; the photo quality was impressive. The photo looks bright, colorful, and fancy. And the selfie stick was invisible in my gallery! Such a fantastic function! I noticed this lens adapted with a super high 5.7K 360-degree definition.I also used alcohol wipes and wet cloth to clean my camera, and it still stays in functional status. Also, The software has powerful function and very easy to use, I tried editing the picture, and the only thing I did was click the “little planet” button in my apps. It’s very easy for me to obtain a screenshot of one flat photo within the panoramic photos. I also noticed there are several quick editing choices in apps. I am so excited to have this fantastic product.ITS ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE PRICE!!

Not ready for prime time.Bought this with high hopes. A Leica branded super Elmer lens, a 1″sensor in a modular system that looks killer! There are too many cons here to justify the $550 price tag.1. Cant import footage into final cut pro or editors. Only Premier Pro if you download the plug in. MUST use Studio 360 to import and then batch process clips (takes a long time and adds a step)2. Battery life is short, around 35-40 minutes.3. This thing gets HOT, as in over 120 degree hot after 15 min of use.4. Screen is finicky, and sometimes the touch doesn’t work.5. No HDR video mode.6. Color is way off, makes skin looks sickly and pale. Not the same as the 4k or 360 module.7. No close focus, so vlogging with this? Meh.8. The filed of view is narrow compared to even Gopro Linear. When this is set to wide, it’s about as wide as linear on GoPro. Can’t get any kind of superwide view.9. It’s better in low light than a GP8 but not by a huge amount.10. On board mic is terrible even after FW updates. This seems to be a beta product that looks amazing in design and function but the quality isn’t there yet, nor is any kind of ease of use as the workflow will add hours due to having to import and then export in Studio. It uses a proprietary format that can not be read by any editors. For a standard video camera, that is not a good idea. That alone is a dealbreaker for me. I understand if shooting 360 but as is, this is not a 360 camera with the 1″module.Decent first try for a serious little camera but I much prefer the GoPro 8 and even the older Osmo Action to this 1″module. I had issues with freezing up as well. Sending it back.I did love the 360 one X, and still own one. This though, needs some work.

Nice system but improvements neededOverall I would say for a 360 camera it’s good. However my issues/observations are:1. You need to load the app onto a phone to activate the camera or it will not work. It took me two days to do this as my phone is over two years old and even though I could load the app, it would not ‘see’ or communicate with the camera. I had to get my brother with his iPhone to load the app, activate my camera and then delete the app from his phone…Not very ideal ! I’m not certain, but I believe the camera’s wi-fi is only 5g and my phone is only 2.4g.2. Unable to use the app on my phone, I downloaded the Studio2020 Windows version in order to edit/export videos. This works well, but does not have the Stories/Features of the phone app, like Clone Trail etc. So you’re limited to just re framing and changing speed while using the desktop software. I am thinking of running an Android emulator on my pc to see if I can use the phone app that way.3. To summarize, in order to get full use of my Insta360 One R I would have to purchase a new phone thus bringing the total cost of this system over $1000.

THE BEST ACTION+360 CAMERA!!I’ve been looking into the Insta360 cameras for a while and have been very tempted to get a 1-Inch after hearing tons of good things about it. I’m an outdoor lover, especially underwater sports. So I’ve been looking for an action camera that is rugged and can offer high image quality both on land and underwater. I saw ONR R had some major updates on several features earlier this month, one of which was “AquaVision”: which is a magical color correction technology that balances underwater color. When I saw the underwater footage comparison, I was JUST BLOWN AWAY! It was sooo natural and JUST beautiful. So I finally purchased the one-inch edition last week and got the package two days ago. I’ve already taken the camera out and let me tell you WOW, the CAMERA does NOT disappoint!!! I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who’s looking for incredibly smooth footage (thanks to its high stabilization), 360 degrees shooting, or simply who WANT IT ALL!! Awesome job INSTA360!!!!

Couldn’t activate camera out of box. I had to purchase a new smartphone to do so.Too much time and effort was spent trying to activate the camera and at the end of the day I was left overly frustrated without sucess. I tried using a google phone (HOMTOM HT3) to activate because I don’t have the Huawei or Ipad phones that were suggested on the Insta360 website. My HOMTOM HT3 is not compatible with the Insta360 One R app, but is with the Insta360 One app on google play store. When I tried to WIFI connect to the camera using the Insta 360 One app, I received a Bluetooth Message that I needed a passkey (0000 or 1234). When I entered either key, I received the message: Couldn’t pair with device because of an incorrect PIN or passkey. I shouldn’t have to spend $454.00 for an apple Ipad just to activate this camera.I subsequently purchased a new smartphone, Huawei Honor 20 with a Kirin 980 chip, and was able to easily activate the camera. I am now very satisfied with both the camera and the Insta360 one R app for editing videos. As a result, I am changing my overall rating from one star to three, but must take two stars off for the activation issue.

Glitchy. Poor design. No case/lens cover. Clumsy user interface.I loved the concept of this camera but unfortunately, I didn’t really get a chance to give it much of a try. A quick walk around the block and the camera got really hot and locked up on me. After having to disassemble the camera to get it out of the mounting bracket (more on this in a sec) so I could remove the battery to turn it off, the interface wouldn’t allow me to preview the video. It was completely unusable. I thought I’d try it the next day and it worked for one video then started glitching out again. I was using one of the suggested memory cards as well. The design on this is really poor. I bought the 1-inch lens version and the lens cover covers 1/4th of the tiny touch screen making it really hard to use the swipe interface. It feels very delicate and doesn’t look like it would hold up to any amount of bumps. There is a small gap between the battery and the lens/body you can actually see daylight through. The touchscreen user interface was really confusing. It was pretty frustrating just trying to figure out how to get it into a shooting mode. You control the camera by swiping into different modes but it’s hard to swipe on such a small screen. In order to get the camera in and out of the casing (remember, this battery only lasts about an hour at best), you have to unscrew the lens protector. Since the unit is so tiny and delicate, I couldn’t imagine having to do this in the middle of a shoot. It’s also really hard to access the charging compartment with the mounting bracket on it.Last was the fact that it didn’t come with any type of case or lens cap. Come on, guys. It’s a $300 lens that sticks half an inch out of the body of the camera. Adding a .50 piece of plastic wouldn’t have killed the premium price on this.I’m sure I could have returned this and gotten a less glitchy camera but the design flaws, cheap design, and questionable durability would have made me return this anyway.I’m excited to see what this design has for future versions once they’ve fixed some of these issues but you’ll probably want to steer clear of this.
