Experts in the event industry were asked which event format they thought would predominate over the long term—virtual, hybrid, or in-person events—in a recent vFairs study. 39 percent of respondents said they will continue to host hybrid events in the future. This was the most frequently chosen option, followed by “virtual exclusively,” which received 7.5% of the vote, and “in-person only,” which received 4.5%. The remainder of the respondents intend to mix and match different event formats.
It might not seem strange at all. The industry has been buzzing about hybrid events for the past two years. But, the word “hybrid” causes worry and alarm among many event professionals.
