Rode Lavaliermikrofon – 2. Versuch/geöffnete Verpackung?! Qualität nur teils überzeugend
Vor einigen Jahren bestellte ich bereits das Rode Lavalier GO Ansteckmikrofon und entschloss mich letztendlich es zurückzusenden, da es in Sachen Audioqualität, bzw. Aufnahmequalität nicht meinen Ansprüchen und der Beschreibung von Rode entsprach (“kristallklarer Klang”/sendefähige Qualität).Mit dem Rode smartLav+ wagte ich nun einen weiteren Versuch und hoffte, dass dieses Mikrofon nun dementsprechend das leistet, was ich von der Firma Rode gewohnt bin. Am Rande: ich besaß das Rode NT-USB und besitze das NT-USB+, sowie NT-USB-Mini. All diese Mikrofone haben eine hervorragende, absolut nicht zu beanstandene Audioqualität, weshalb ich bei dem Lavalier GO doch sehr enttäuscht war, wie es sein kann, dass von ein und dem selben Hersteller einerseits sehr gute, andererseits aber absolut nicht zufriedenstellende Mikrofone kommen. Natürlich besteht auch die Möglichkeit, dass ich mit dem lavalier GO ein Montagsprodukt erwischt habe.Nun aber zum smartLav+:Leider war der erste Eindruck, nämlich der der Verpackung, bereits absolut unterirdisch, da die Verpackung in einem ziemlich demolierten Zustand bei mir ankam und sowohl oben, als auch unten bereits geöffnet war. Hier wurde scheinbar entweder ein von einem anderen Kunden retournierter Artikel versendet. Dies war mein erster Gedanke und der nächste: ob ich es evtl. umgehend und ohne es mir anzuschauen zurücksende. Die andere Möglichkeit besteht darin, dass das Mikrofon durch Amazon alles andere als sorgfältig behandelt wurde. Welche von beiden Möglichkeiten zutreffend sein könnte, vermag ich nicht zu beurteilen, der Zustand des Kartons war jedoch übel (siehe Fotos) und so etwas geht absolut nicht. Schlussendlich beschloss ich mir den Inhalt des Kartons zumindest einmal anzuschauen und sollte sich dann der Eindruck verhärten, dass dieses Mikrofon bereits an einen anderen Kunden versendet wurde und somit Gebrauchsspuren sichtbar sein könnten, könnte es ja immer noch zurückgesendet werden. Ich stellte jedoch fest, dass sowohl das Mikrofon, als auch das enthaltene Zubehör offenbar noch im Originalzustand zu sein schienen und machte mich daran das Mikrofon in die Halterung einzusetzen, mit dem Popschutz zu versehen und zu testen.Um es auf den Punkt zu bringen: das Mikrofon klingt tatsächlich recht gut und um Welten besser, als das von mir vor einiger Zeit zuerst bestellte Lavalier GO, ABER: es klingt nur richtig gut, wenn man es ähnlich positioniert wie ein Mikrofon, das vor einem auf einem Tisch steht oder an einem Mikrofonarm hängt, sprich wenn man es in der Nähe des Mundes, etwa auf gleicher Höhe positioniert. In dem Fall ist die Tonqualität wirklich gut und brauchbar, verwendet man das Mikrofon allerdings so, wie es für ein Ansteckmikrofon üblich ist und befestigt es z. B. am Kragen eines Pullovers, T-Shirts oder einer Krawatte, klingt das Mikrofon deutlich schlechter. Ob das was dann noch von der vorher guten Audioqualität übrig bleibt noch ausreichend ist, oder für den jeweiligen Verwendungszweck zu schlecht, das muss jeder für sich entscheiden. Tatsächlich habe ich diese Entscheidung für mich zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt noch nicht abschließend getroffen, ich werde noch ein wenig weiter testen, bin jedoch auch mit diesem Mikrofon nicht gänzlich zufrieden. Hört man sich eine Sprachaufnahme, die mit dem NT-USB+ erstellt wurde und im Vergleich eine Aufnahme des smartLav+ an, welches zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme wie zuvor beschrieben am Kragen eines Pullovers befestigt ist, liegen tatsächlich Welten zwischen den beiden Aufnahmen.Als Zubehör wird neben der Mikrofonhalterung, die auch einen Clip für die Befestigung an der Kleidung enthält, ein kleiner Beutel mitgeliefert, welcher oben zugezogen und somit dort das Mikrofon sicher verstaut werden kann. Dieser sieht zum einen optisch gut aus, eignet sich aber auch sonst sehr gut für die Lagerung, bzw. Transport des Mikrofons.Unter dem Strich vergebe ich zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt drei Sterne für das Mikrofon, wobei die lädierte Verpackung nicht mit in die Bewertung einfließt, da das Mikrofon an sich bewertet wird. Möglicherweise habe ich auch nur noch nicht die ideale Position für das Mikrofon gefunden und werde daher noch ein bisschen ausprobieren und testen. Sollte sich hierbei herausstellen, dass es tatsächlich nur an einer ungünstigen Positionierung des Mikrofons lag, dass die Tonqualität bei entsprechend an der Kleidung befestigtem Mikrofon nicht gänzlich überzeugend war, werde ich meine Bewertung hier entsprechend nach oben korrigieren.

Bon micro-cravate filaire avec un excellent rapport qualité/prix
J’avais acheté il y a quelques années la première version du “SmartLav” de Rode afin de pouvoir enregistrer des interviews à l’aide de mon iPhone.Le micro fonctionnait très bien, mais il était affligé d’un rapport signal/bruit tout juste moyen.Rode s’étant aperçu de ce défaut, le nouveau “SmartLav Plus” présente un niveau de bruit de fond beaucoup plus bas qui le rend désormais utilisable dans un contexte professionnel. D’autant que le SL+ bénéficie également d’une très bonne sensibilité et d’un équilibre tonal remarquable. Des tests sonores disponibles sur le Net vous permettront de constater qu’il est tout à fait comparable, au niveau qualité d’enregistrement, à des modèles réputés, notablement plus chers.Ce micro est omnidirectionnel, ce qui le rend adapté à la captation de la parole d’une personne sans que celle-ci soit obligée d’adopter une attitude statique pendant un entretien. L’ennui, avec les micro “omni”, c’est qu’il sont malheureusement sensibles aux bruits ambiants. C’est pourquoi il est fortement conseillé d’employer le SL+ dans un environnement relativement calme.D’après mes propres expériences, ce petit micro enregistre très correctement les graves, mais sans pour autant les accentuer, ce qui est primordial pour un dispositif positionné une vingtaine de centimètres en-dessous de la bouche d’une personne qui parle. Le son est clair et équilibré, contrairement à pas mal de micros (même haut de gamme) qui ont tendance à accentuer les hauts médiums et les aigus pour donner plus de relief à la voix.Et, attention, n’allez pas croire qu’un micro “cardioïde” (dont la “zone d’enregistrement” est plus limitée) serait forcément meilleur. Le cardioïde étant – par essence – plus directionnel, si la personne qui s’exprime tourne la tête vous aurez immanquablement droit à de désagréables variations du volume d’enregistrement…Tout cela pour tordre le cou à ce mythe répandu chez les néophytes qui voudraient que les micros omni soient forcément de moins bonne qualité. Sennheiser produit des micro-cravates hauts de gamme qui sont omnidirectionnels, et ce sont les plus utilisés pour les productions télévisées et cinéma.Le SmartLav+ se prête naturellement à deux types d’utilisations:1) Conçu à la base pour être connecté à un téléphone portable possédant une application d’enregistrement (comme l’excellente “Rode Rec” disponible sur iPhone à 4,99 euros), il peut faire office de “micro HF du pauvre”. Vous fixez le micro sur l’interviewé, vous glissez votre téléphone dans une de ses poches intérieures, et vogue la galère! L’ennui, c’est que ce genre de dispositif ne permet pas de faire du monitoring à l’enregistrement. Et vous risquez d’avoir des mauvaises surprises à l’écoute: frottements contre les vêtements, coupures de son, saturations, etc.2) Pour utiliser le SmartLav+ avec un enregistreur indépendant (je l’emploie avec un Zoom H5), vous aurez besoin d’un adaptateur (
RØDE SC3 Adaptateur jack trrs vers trs Noir
) qui n’est pas donné. Et si vous voulez avoir un peu de recul, il vous faudra également une rallonge (
Rode SC1 Rallonge pour SmartLav et SmartLav+ – 6m
). Vous pourrez alors écouter, à l’aide d’un casque, pendant que vous enregistrez. Ce qui vous évitera bien des déconvenues.Quoi qu’il en soit, même si les accessoires sont assez chers (le câble Rode est renforcé par du Kevlar), le SmartLav+ est un micro de qualité broadcast – qui n’est pas exclusivement réservé à une utilisation avec un smartphone – dont le prix est pleinement justifié.Pas du très haut de gamme sans doute, mais du bon matos néanmoins, comme souvent chez Rode.

great performance, poor metal clip design
I was looking for a microphone to record voiceovers for my TikToks and this RØDE SmartLavPlus fits the bill. RØDE is a leading brand known for its microphones and this Lav mic performs well. The recordings and playback are crisp and pick up little background noise. As it’s a standard 3.5 mm Jack I need to purchase an additional Apple adaptor for the lightning connection. I echo another reviewer that the metal clip is poorly designed, as I broke it on first use. I highly recommend you watch the RØDE youtube channel on how to open the clip up to hook your mic in. As the instructions provided are basic and not clear enough. Amazon was great with sending out a replacement for me.

I must say that it is actually decent recording device. Review could end here… though.Rode’s ridiculous focus on Apple environment is truly annoying through eyes of Smartlav+ user. It is dedicated to those of you that have old apple phone (yes they support old ones only-it is all about jack 🙂 ) – Rode app (paid!) is available on IOS only £5.99 sic!). I know you can always find better apps on Android and usually free or for a fraction of IOS equivalent price (i bought Rec Forge II pro for just over £2, it was ‘expensive one’. I must say that native app was doing the job well, but I always want to squeeze all juice from my devices. It is not an issue though, Rode does not recommend any particular one for android. Why? What is the point of having good product for obsolete mobile devices? I do not follow Rode’s philosophy.Box and package. It comes with basic cardboard box (no tech specs on it , but I’ll talk about it later). Inside there is attached a quick guide… If you expected quick guide about the product, you would be surprised. It is all about mount clip. Yes. mount clip only. Nothing about using the mic. No tech specs, no characteristics of the mic, nothing but clip. You can straight away see that the product and its users are not treated seriously by the producer. Remember you can learn to ignore some sounds, but microphone cannot. It will record your wall clock ticking , fridge, neighbours … everything. Thus, you need app to cut off its sensitivity dramatically, so that it picks up only your voice and later you amplify it to suit your needs. It is not dynamic, nor one that focuses on one direction only mic-please check what you really need.What annoys me is that they use meaningless phrases on the box, leaflet and adverts (‘professional- grade’, ‘broadcast quality’… meaningless marketing only).It is not pro grade product. But it is a high quality (sometimes too high) for beginners and above in audio/voice recording.Cable length is ok (you get about 70cm of usable cable length, when excluding all necessary bends and loops) for average height person – you can hide your phone in front trousers pocket. I would not recommend it if you need to be further away from recording device (probably rare for such a basic product occasion, but have it in your mind before purchase), or if you are really tall and cannot hide phone in your jacket.Free advice:- always record in flight mode-if on windows surface like device switch of system sound enhancements (recording device advanced properties settings).-your phone or tablet or PC (if TRRS jack compatible) may see it as headset – you have to define it as recording device only and use other audio output (in some devices it is not that simple) for soundTo sum up, it is a very good microphone for its price, but only for people that spent some time setting up recording devices of are experienced in voice recording. If not- too expensive – you can get your results for less.There is a lot of misleading marketing info (mainly from Rode itself) that could create unsupported expectations. Lack of any guidance or advice or app for users (the one for IOS can be ignored – supports devices that are not even manufactured anymore!).Or buy it and play with it for a while – once you understood its properties, it will give you expected results… and will open your way for pro products 🙂
