Description

Noise-free and very affordable! The Radial ProDI Passive Direct Box is a high-quality, passive direct box that employs a proprietary transformer for both impedance conversion and isolation. Linear from 20Hz-18kHz, with low distortion and virtually zero phase distortion makes it perfect for live or studio performances. Because of the transformer isolation, problems such as hum and buzz caused by ground loops are eliminated, making it very easy and hassle-free to use. The Radial ProDI features 1/4″ thru/input, -15dB pad, and ground lift protected from damage by a protective front panel. Heavy-duty construction, baked enamel finish, and 600-ohm balanced output. 2-1/2″ x 4-1/4″.

Arguably the best DIWe run our bass player’s instrument through the PA. It has active pickups so we’re using the DI to lower the input signal to a level the mixer’s preamp can handle. While any active DI can do that, this one is built like a tank and should last a long time.

Industry StandardAs a professional musician who’s day job is an audio engineer, I use these constantly. I would not buy a different brand, they’re worth the money. Silent, reliable, and bulletproof makes this the industry standard. I use this one for my own music, to run my keyboard to house backlines/PA systems. It’s always going to ensure a good clean signal with no hum.

Must have for active EMG pickupsSo I know a lot of people struggle on the decision to purchase a DI box and should it be passive or active.I can share my experiences in this search for great guitar tone.I am going to list my equipment:Guitars:Ibanez RG8-EMG 808x (neck and bridge)Tuning: F, A#, D#, G#, C#, F#, A#, D# (9.5/74)ESP LTD MH-417-(EMG 85-7H: neck, EMG 81-7H: bridge)Tuning: G#, D#, G#, C#, F#, A#, D# (10/65)Audio interface:Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (1st Gen)DAW and VSTs:Cubase 10.5 ProFortin Nameless suiteMercuriall U530Internal Cubase VSTsI decided to pick up the Radial ProDI passive DI box because I have active pickups in both of my guitars and my tone was muddy directly into the instrument input w/ padding turned all the way down. This DI box is a must have. My tone is night and day compared to the Focusrite instrument input w/ internal padding.I can’t recommend this DI box enough.

Night and Day difference…You may notice: this DI box only has 4 and 5 star ratings. Its wonderful. I wanted to get the JDI though money was tight and I was using points on my credit card to make the purchase. I went with this because I only needed the basics anyway.I keep this in my utility bag. Many venues already have a DI and I just use what they have. Some smaller places may have basic sound equipment though no extras like DIs or adapters. In a situation like this you may get through the show with no issues though after using this, I realize when going direct into a board DI isn’t just convenient: it’s a necessity. It makes a world of difference.I played a spot recently and this box saved the performance: we were having issues with sound and once we were able to get signal there was a lot of extra noise. Using the ground lift eliminated the hum and buzzing and kept the guitar signal strong. I actually now prefer putting my guitar and vocals through a pa/mixer because it’s less for me to carry to the place and exceptional sound. I would recommend this DI box as a great sounding and problem solving way to go direct in. I think it’s the only way to go.

THE best direct box for the moneyAs the leader of the sound team in my congregation, I found myself regularly fetching replacement direct boxes for the Berhringer and other brand boxes on stage, due to noise or him, insufficient gain or just a dead box. What I noticed over time is that I never had to replace any of the Radial boxes, and in fact the musicians would sometimes ask me specifically for one. So I started stocking up on them and eventually replaced all of the other boxes with Radials. Now I simply don’t worry about the boxes at all–they just work and they work well. These boxes are compact and simple, they sound great with no audible noise, and they’re solid as a rock. The Pro D2 stereo boxes are just as reliable, and I’ve purchased a few of those to cover our keyboardists and drum sets with success. We have a couple powered Pro48 boxes that work well, but at some point I hope to have passive direct boxes exclusively, and leave the phantom power for our condenser microphones. These passive boxes are perhaps the most reliable component in all our sound equipment and I highly recommend to all musicians and venues, big or small.

What I didn’t knowI was looking for a DI box, and picked this one based on what I’ve read. Other wise I don’t know anything about these. Product was solid construction. I used this with my Marshall dls 100h head, no effects pedals. All was fine on the clean channel, but once I switched to the distortion channel, what was coming out of the cabinet wasn’t the same sound coming out of the PA mains. Was informed I needed a reactive DI box with speaker emulation, so I had to return this one.

I LOVE this DI boxI LOVE this DI box! I play acoustic guitars on a weekly basis – a Taylor, a Martin, and occasionally a Takamine – and they all sound GREAT through the Radial ProDI. I own and have used the Stagebug SB-2, and although it’s a quality box for the money, the ProDI just has more detail on the low end and more air on the top end. After many years of use, I can say that I easily prefer the sound of a good guitar with a nice pickup/preamp system through my ProDI than many of the de-facto acoustic preamps (Baggs, BBE) on the market. Additionally, I find that I virtually never have to worry about notching feedback frequencies with any of my guitars. Just beautiful acoustic sounds. Best $99 you can spend on your guitar!
