At dbx, when we do something, we do it right. So when we decided to create our new direct injection boxes, we didn’t settle for the same old tired approach to direct box design. With our dbx name on the line, how could we? One look at our new dB10 Passive and dB12 Active direct boxes will tell you that these are clearly different. With their bullet-proof construction, and extraordinary audio performance to rival their looks, finally there’s a direct box worthy of the dbx name. Utilizing custom dbx mu-metal-shielded audio transformers, high-quality Neutrikconnectors, and low-noise circuitry preserves the sonic integrity and true characteristics of the signal source. Both boxes include a pad switch that accomodates instrument, line and even speaker level signals. Take even more control of your sound by utilizing the polarity invert switch to set the phase relationship between the direct and mic’d sound. As a professional, you don’t have time for interference, so we’ve included a ground lift switch to solve potential hum and buzz problems due to ground loops. And between the combined shielding of the cast metal chassis and the custom-wound transformer, you can be doubly assured of a clean signal free from interference. All of this sits atop a solid, stable footprint, that will keep the box from being dragged around the stage, and the unique contoured underside allows secure stacking of multiple units. So whether you need to control the level, placement in the mix, or overall characteristics of 4 independent signals or control the gain leveling on a couple of stereo pairs, the dbx dB10 dB12 is for you.

Plugged it in and the hum problem went away! The problem addressed by this product was hum in the signal from an electronic keyboard. The original matching transformer I used allowed hum through and that was unacceptable. I selected this active device because it was phantom powered therefore didn’t need a seperate power connection. The device worked as advertised out of the box and it appears to be of very durable construction. The switches are protected by the cast metal housing so they shouldn’t be damaged by performers kicking, stepping on, or otherwise abusing the device.

Excellent solution to several recording problemsWe recently started trying to do home recording, and almost immediately ran into problems getting the right type of signals into the USB recoding device (a PreSonus AudioBox). Some signals, like the audio from a drum kit, would come in too low. And we couldn’t figure out any way to get the signal from a guitar amp into the AudioBox.This box seems to be the solution for all of these types of problems. The drum kit works great with the 0db pad setting, and the ground lift prevents ground loop hum.For the guitar amp, there is a direct wired Thru output, so that you can hook the amp’s speaker output up to this box’s input, and plug the amp’s speaker into the Thru output. (Make sure to do that so the amp is loaded correctly!) In conjunction with the 40db pad setting, you get a great signal level that sounds as close to the way the amp sounds in the room as we have ever gotten. (It will never be exactly the same due to the way the amp’s speaker, and the room itself, color the sound.)A very versatile passive DI box, that adds little if any coloring to the sound. Highly recommended.
