The best streaming device! Better than SlingstudioI started off streaming for the church with Slingstudio and it wasn’t reliable since it’s a wireless solution. But honestly, just go for this one, it’s wired and that’s what makes it more reliable, the video quality is 10x better. Totally recommend for church use or anything

Initial impressionsJust got this yesterday evening and been up with this the whole night.Initial reflectionsThis is definitely a huge upgrade from the atem mini pro and the atem mini iso. It’s got a lot of buttons that I might not end up using. If paired with the BMD cameras there are quite a few onboard controls. Got this unit as I preferred a standalone unit that would be user friendly and portable. This looks like it would do just that.The BadHad it running with 2 cameras and connected to the laptop through the usb port for around 6 straight hours (used it live for around 2hrs) and it was heating up quite strongly which was concerning. Even when I wasn’t live it still was heating up. Not sure how much of heating it can take.Will keep updating this review.

Best buy video switcherThe video switcher does the heavy lifting, including the camera sources switching as well as the livestreaming to the internet. (Encoding is perfect)

BMD Extreme Switcher does not work with Dacast streaming serviceWhen you start setting up the device you will usually experience tons of things that have to be googled to solve which is a time waster especially if you don’t have much experience with live video streaming.Most often it has to do with device getting unusually hot, stream password user authentication not working, Out of range error when using Multiview with a computer monitor & getting rid of audio distortion.As of August 8th, 2022 Blackmagic Design admits that it’s Streaming.xml file cannot be configured for user/password authentication with streaming provider Dacast because of a bug with the BMD Extreme Switcher. People use Dacast for things like church streaming services because Youtube & Facebook will enforce music copyrights during live broadcast while independent streaming providers don’t have the tech stack to detect if copyrighted music is being played or not.I assume that means any streaming service that requires the user/password authentication in the xml file will not work until BMD finally decides to get around to fixing it.It is honestly a pain to buy this device & still have to stream it through OBS or Vmix using separate computer hardware especially when you have to get it approved in a budget & then it ends up not really even solving your problem.

Versatility is not lacking!Offers an amazing variety of options for ins/outs both for video and audio!I will say the weak link is the video quality from the USB-C is a bit over contrasty compared the two HDMI out options.

Blackmagic products are amateur consumer’s championsThe Blackmagic products have been our go to devices for our church. We use several Blackmagic devices in our workflow, and in building our production suite, we thought the Blackmagic Mini Extreme would be a perfect fit.Pros:The Extreme build quality is great, with plenty inputs for growth. The many buttons on the deck makes it easy access features. The headphones and mic controls located on the deck is great is great for quick adjustments.Cons:As usual keeping with their norm, Blackmagic continue create devices without a power button. The extreme seem to get very hot. With the additional heat, I think it effects some of the functions. When you record and stream, then end the processes by hitting the end button, sometimes it freezes in that state. This would require a power cycle, which would require you to unplug; thus having a power button would make this process somewhat facile. With the footprint being a little larger than the Mini Pro, it would’ve been great to have included a handle bar.The onboard cache for streaming fills quickly, ending live streaming.

Doesn’t WorkWe wanted to replace a Roland with this Blackmagic, but it does not work. This unit will not send out a signal that our TV monitors (46″) can process after 8 hours of troubleshooting over 2 days and with the help of an electronics engineer. Everything short of taking this mixer apart was tried and at best all we could get was a black screen on our TV monitors, they keep asking is there anything hooked up to the HDMI port(s) [we tried each of the three ports on the TV], we are using Fiber Optic HMDI cables. Anything (camera, computer) plugged directly into the TV has an instant very clear picture. To be fair, our videographer has a personal unit that is identical to this one and says he has never had any issues with it. However, there are plenty of posts of how there is no output signal after certain firmware updates, then even reverting to previous firmware versions this unit still will not have an output signal. Perhaps it would have been good to have read those blogs prior to purchasing. It is being retuned.
