L-Acoustics introduces Source Intelligence voice-separation for live sound

Background and context

L-Acoustics has added a new software tool to its immersive audio ecosystem with the launch of Source Intelligence, a machine learning-based voice-separation application for the L-ISA Processor II.

Announced at the company’s Keynote 2026 event in Los Angeles, Source Intelligence is designed to address long-standing challenges around vocal clarity, feedback, and PA spill in live environments. The launch took place alongside the introduction of the L1 large-format line array and CS1 subwoofer, and was demonstrated during a performance by The War on Drugs.

The software has already seen field use since spring 2025 on major tours, Broadway productions, and large houses of worship, where it has been tested by a group of beta partners including Solotech, Clair Global, and PRG.

Key announcement

Source Intelligence runs exclusively on the L-ISA Processor II as a licensed software subscription. It operates in real time to identify and isolate the voice within a microphone signal and reduce other sound sources in that channel.

According to L-Acoustics, the system continuously distinguishes the vocal from PA bleed, room reflections, instruments, and audience noise, aiming to leave a more focused vocal signal. The company reports that in blind listening tests involving internal staff and external engineers, the technology removed up to 40 dB of non-voice content and was rated highest for perceived voice quality compared with other approaches.

The tool is integrated into the existing L-Acoustics workflow and, once installed, does not require threshold configuration or ongoing parameter adjustment. Signal routing and console workflows remain unchanged. Power supply, network audio, and DSP redundancy are handled by the underlying L-ISA Processor II platform.

Industry impact

L-Acoustics positions Source Intelligence as a way to reduce reliance on traditional techniques such as heavy EQ cuts, aggressive dynamics, or restrictive stage plots used to manage feedback and spill. By pre-emptively reducing non-vocal content in the channel, the company says the system lowers feedback risk instead of attempting to react to it.

Early adopters include front-of-house engineers on high-profile touring and theatrical productions. L-Acoustics cites deployments on the Harry Styles tour with Solotech, tours for Benson Boone and Rosalía with Clair Global, and the Broadway production of Dog Day Afternoon with PRG. Engineers involved in the beta phase report using the tool both for extra headroom in loud stage environments and for maintaining vocal clarity when performers move in front of the PA.

Beyond touring, L-Acoustics is targeting houses of worship, corporate events, and theatre, where open microphones, reflective spaces, and variable stage layouts often complicate vocal reinforcement.

Why this matters

For event technology professionals, Source Intelligence reflects a broader shift toward AI- and machine learning-driven processing in live sound. Instead of treating feedback and spill primarily with manual filters and gating, this approach attempts to algorithmically separate desired and undesired content within the same channel.

Because the software runs on the existing L-ISA Processor II hardware, rental houses and venues already invested in the platform can add the capability as a subscription. It joins other licensed applications available on the processor, including L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound, L-Acoustics DJ, Ambiance, and HYRISS, expanding the range of use cases from immersive mixing to targeted vocal enhancement.

For productions using L-Acoustics PAs and L-ISA infrastructure, Source Intelligence offers another tool to manage challenging acoustic conditions, potentially affecting everything from arena tours to spoken-word corporate events.
