Apps are too expensive for our events

I hear often that Apps are too expensive for our events. I know at first glance the cost of native app development may seem high but when you compare the cost of deploying an app with more traditional methods of content delivery they are really on par. A lot of final programs that are designed and printed cost clients in the vicinity of $5-10K for design and print alone (volume and event dependent of course). Native app costs sit squarely in the middle of this.

iBeacon Messaging

Once again Apple has triggered an event-industry innovation streak. Its iBeacon—a small piece of hardware that transmits signals to a smart device—has sparked the imagination of leading mobile app developers, several of whom have announced beacon-enabled features for their existing event apps.

What is iBeacon?

iBeacon is Apple’s implementation of Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) wireless technology to create a different way of providing location-based information and services to iPhones and other iOS devices.

Why have a mobile Event App

This is a question that I use to get when we first started in 2009 when everyone was still using paper maps and programs. Since that time, however, I do not get this question often enough.

Just producing a mobile app does not mean it will be successful. Sadly, some organizers buy an app just to have one or they got it for free (ok, don’t get me started on a free app – you’ve heard the old saying “you get what you paid for”).
