IBEACONS AND YOUR EVENT: SIX WAYS TO INCREASE ATTENDEE ENGAGEMENT AND ENJOYMENT

Almost a decade ago, conference life changed drastically with Twitter and hashtags. By following an event’s Twitter account attendees received real-time information on panels, sessions and fostered anonymous dialogue with other attendees. Think of iBeacon as a far more sophisticated way for attendees to interact with one another while staying connected to the event.

iBeacons receive notifications via Bluetooth LE technology. The devices also transmit information. If an attendee walking by a booth or activity has their iBeacon app activated, they will pick up outgoing signals from vendors and event sites. This information can be anything from marketing materials to social invites to schedule changes.

Camera drones banned from ski events after near accident

VIENNA – The international ski federation is banning camera drones from its World Cup races after one of the flying objects crashed and nearly hit Austrian skier Marcel Hirscher during a slalom in Italy.

FIS will prohibit drones “as long as I am responsible … because they are a bad thing for safety,” men’s race director Markus Waldner told The Associated Press on Wednesday, a day after the night race in Madonna di Campiglio.

How to Create Viral Contagion for 3D Projection Events

3D Projection Mapping is one of the most artistically compelling, and potentially cost-effective, ways to express a brand idea while anchoring a major brand event. Event Organiser, Lesley Hampson of ncj media “You’ve done a fantastic job of taking our initial woolly ideas and putting together a completely fresh new look which looked great. You’re a pleasure to work with. The projection mapping was simply outstanding and blew our socks off. I must have seen the opening projection mapping sequence 5 or 6 times by the end of the night and each time I had goosebumps! All the guys at R&B play a very important role and work so hard in pulling everything together!”

HOW TO MAKE A SMARTPHONE-POWERED HOLOGRAM

Holograms aren’t just for droids and dead rappers. You can make your own with a piece of transparency paper and a four-sided hologram video. Properly folded, the transparency will combine the images on a phone or tablet screen to create “a reflection that gives you the illusion of an object hovering in space,” says Alex Cronin, a physicist at the University of Arizona.
